The fear of more high rises being built in this area has been a huge let down in the community. This isn't the right area for high rises and it's sad. Thankfully, whoever bought this lot, has really made an effort to collab with local Houston vendors to showcase their homemade artwork and food trucks to sell. This new "temporary" addition to the area has been a great livelihood to people who live around the area. Especially for myself who lives just down the street. I noticed when the lot being torn down, and cleaned up, small little tents started to pop up and then weeks later, on the weekends, more and more tents. And eventually a full on market. Its gotten so much attention just driving down Westhiemer that you can't help but pull into the lot and check it out. I've personally boughten a few items from local vendors and its nice to know that you're supporting the community. They open on the weekends, Saturday and Sunday from 12-5pm.

Parking is a nightmare, the layout makes no sense, and getting in and out feels like a test of patience. It tries to come across as trendy, but it ends up feeling more like a collection of random businesses with no real flow. Unless you enjoy circling for parking, dealing with traffic, and wondering why you came in the first place, there are plenty of better places to spend your time.

It's not a food/produce/meats heavy farmers market like many others in Houston, but you will find some local farmers selling produce, eggs, CSA boxes, and pre-packaged meals. And you will find a lot of artists goods/gifts and unique purveyors: dog food/treats, soaps, jewelry, bagged coffee, barbecue sauces, Indian food... If you are ever on the hunt for a locally-made and unique gift for a friend, check out this market on a Sunday. I recently bought a handful of gifts for a friend's birthday (and a purse for myself!). On a hot summer day, like the present, they have industrial fans blowing in every direction; they also have live music (sometimes mariachis on holidays). The newly placed shipping containers house permanent shops that are open beyond the market hours, so you're able to check them out on different days of the week, including Perry Ideas and Rasa Libre Coffee (they sell buñuelos, too!) I think as the crowd grows in size, more food and produce vendors will pop up. Support this market on a future Sunday, and then pop over to Ninfa's for some margaritas and brunch.

It was not a particularly busy day for the farmers market but we had a nice time strolling along and seeing the variety of produce, handmade pasta, baked goods, and other items for sale! We stopped by one booth for a sample which had packaged Indian curries that can be easily boiled as a meal for one. At $10 we found them rather steep, but quite tasty! There was also a dumpling booth that seemed quite popular. This is a nice farmers market perfect for a relaxed stroll on a Saturday! Very family-friendly and a nice mix of local Houston finds.

There's tons of free parking just around the corner in the large onsite parking garage. The market itself is well attended by farmers, bakers, butchers, artisans, plant enthusiasts, and the community. I've been to this market several times now and am constantly impressed with the wide variety of options. Some local favorites include the fresh farmer's produce, sourdough bread vendors, fresh flower vendors, vegan options (shout out to Prophecy Foods with amazing vegan cheeses), and the ready to eat bites like Dumpling Haus. All of the vendors take credit cards which is convenient in case you forgot to bring cash. There's often live music and a few small tables to sit and sample your bounty and just enjoy the fresh air. While you are not going to find the cheapest bargain here, it feels good to help support small businesses, take part in a community activity, and score some healthy foods for you and your family. Definitely worth a visit!
