In need of airbrush paint, desperately...Finally got on the website for curbside pick up. After an hour of not being successful, I see a help number and placed my call for help. The Help was helpful. So I thought. Once she got me thru the re doing everything I did because there're so many instructions. I placed my order and thanked the Help for there Help and Patience.. after 2 hrs. No call for payment like I was told I called. After being on hold several times finally someone that's going to help me. He finally finds my oder and more Mess. Then to find out they don't carry what I picked from there store website. Huh! But he found something similar in another brand. Ok. Perfect. He match the colours I had but to discover not the same size bottles. So he went got more and complete my oder. And I pay. What no order number again. Oh no. He said. Just call when here and someone will run it out. I said see you in 30 mins. He said. Ok. I get there in 25 mins to find them closed. And no one answers the phone. I think the employee's I encountered are incompetent...after talking to the web help I found out everything she said after we hung up that should have happened, didn't...and absolutely nothing happened after they took my money and I drove 25 mins to get there to find the closed. I call the tech help but she can't do anything. But says go knock on the door. I did. No answer. Oh. I'm a tall Black Man. With pants and tank top with paint on me. So. Me. .knocking on the locked door. Really...beyond Pissed. Wouldn't recommend going there if they had the only Pee in the world that could put out a major fire. Once they open I'm going to cancel my order and never shop or refer anyone of my fellow artist... read more

Nice little store. Saw this store on line and wanted to check it out while I was in the LA area. I was specifically looking for calligraphy supplies. I was very pleased with what I found. It's a small store but they had lots of pen nibs and ink. The staff was very nice and helped with my questions. It was fun to be able to just look around at the various calligraphy supplies. Every single staff person I asked for help was very rude to me. The only person who wasn't rude was the person on the register who I forgot to ask her name but it was around like 4:30-5pm (she had black glasses, younger person) but literally even some managers were very rude and also someone said something condescending to the person ringing me up it was a very weird environment. I love this store and the people that work here are always super friendly and helpful. I often need things in larger numbers for my classroom (10% teacher discount by the way!) The parking lot is kind of a pain because it's super small, but I don't generally ever have trouble finding a spot and it's free! Free parking in LA is always a plus! read more

Blick's is one of the few art stores in our area. As a certified LA resident we drive at least 5 miles plus one way for art materials. I usually order online but needed portfolio cases. Blick's is well stocked and the staff is very helpful. It is a little pricey but in a pinch I'll make the trip. I prefer Craftsman supply that I shopped at in Berkeley but they closed their W Hollywood store and are now in downtown LA. Utrecht is ideal for materials but that's a trip to Santa Monica. Michael's is not considered. Sextons is a nice small store but expensive. read more

Very good service, really helpful sellers. I was in need of Montana Spray in ultra modern salad color and some other very rare colors. There are so many different marks and labels of sprays but I am especially interested in Montana. And this is the only one shop where I can find the variety of colors and labels. What a slow process trying to return a defective easel. The first person we dealt with on the phone was not very polite and blamed the defect on the salty pacific air causing rust. Lol, (I understand that this is Los Angeles and most people do not understand how weather works but rust and corrosion don't occur on first contact with ocean air). Then the replacement was ordered and we were told a phone call would be made to us when the new item arrived....No call, turns out that employee doesn't work there any more... On to the second attempt, very nice staff but slower than a snail going up hill in a snow storm. Over an hour later after going back and forth from computer to computer the issue was resolved, but this was a 15 minute job max. It's like going out to dinner in West Hollywood- pretty spots, pretty servers but the food sucks, must be that ocean air. read more

I just received a notice from Yelp HQ that the "Yelp community" requested my last review be removed due to lack of specifics. So please allow me to elaborate I used to go to Blick quite a bit. Even have (or as of now HAD) a loyalty card. But it had been a while since I stopped in. We went in looking for materials for s school project for my son. It took over 10 minutes to find an employee. When we did they made it clear they were just to busy to deal with us. When we asked if they carried styrofoam shapes the response was an audible sigh and a sarcastic suggestion we should go to Michaels (a competitor located across town) I guess there is s level of cool required to shop at Blick that our little family was deemed not to possess. So sorry Blick. We will make sure to shop elsewhere from now on. Already got rid of the loyalty card Hope this provided enough detail for the "Yelp community". read more

I came just after they opened in the morning, parked in the nearly empty parking structure, and asked for help finding the right newspad and pens, and i got some really good advice! at the check-out i asked to have my newspad fashioned into a backpack with saran wrap, since i was on a motorcycle with no way to carry something 4ft by 3ft, and they had no problem brainstorming a solution to my problem :) the collective working at blick appears tight knit and cordial with one another, and it's lovely to grab supplies in such a supportive atmosphere. thanks guys! xo read more

I've been to Blick a few times. I don't know why, because I'm not an artist or anything close, but I've been there. I recently decided to give this whole DIY thing a whirl and refinish my ugly wood dining room table. I went to the hardware store and got some stuff for sanding, painting, sealing etc. But I wanted to stencil something fancy on the top because I apparently I hate myself and enjoy being tortured. After failing to make my own stencil with poster board and a really dull x-acto knife, I thought, lets try Blick! I wanted to get in and out of there as quickly as possible because even though DIYers should be patient, I'm not. I want instant pleasure and this table crap was already taking too damn long. As soon as we walked in, someone asked if they could help us find something. I practically jumped into the womans arms and exclaimed "YES!" and told her I needed x, y and z. She asked what I was doing with it and helped me decide very quickly what would work best. So far, Blick was the least painful and quickest part of my dining room table project and I can't thank them enough for that. There is a small underground lot for parking, they have a free discount card, there were plenty of people on hand to help and the woman who helped me seemed to know what she was talking about because everything she gave me to use, worked like a charm. If only she would have come home with me and finished my table......then they would get 5 stars. read more

I use something called Rub n' Buff to antique brass pieces. For some reason, it's really hard to find the particular shade I use (Spanish Copper, if you must know), which means I spend a lot of time calling places and being mistaken for a perv when I ask for a Rub n' Buff. Nonetheless, it's more efficient to make pervy phone calls than to drive around from craft store to craft store looking for the stuff. Which is why I called Blick. Here's how the conversation went: Blick: "Blick, this is ______, how can I help you?" Me: "Hi! Do you have Rub n' Buff?" Blick: "WHAT?" Me: "Rub n' Buff...It's an antiquing paste. It's probably with the framing stuff. Comes in a tube." Blick: "Ohhh. Yeah. We have that." Me: "Do you have Spanish Copper? That's the shade I need. I don't want to drive there if you don't have it." Blick: "Yeah! Yeah, we have it." They did not, in fact, have Spanish Copper. And the snotty betch who deigned to tell me what aisle they keep the ole R n' B in was, well, a snotty betch. Btw, I worked in an art store for a while and was never under the illusion that I was superior to every person who came in to buy something. One star is for their convenient location (easy parking, across the street from the yummy lattes and salads at Milk) and one star for the nice young man I roped into looking in the back for the Rub n' Buff when the aforementioned putana sat down in the corner and took a personal phone call for about 10 minutes. read more

I had to come to Blick to look for some obscure eraser refills for my lead pencils. This place has everything you could want as far as art paraphernalia. The staff here were quite friendly as we were greeted as soon as we walked in the door, during our search for the erasers, and even as we were walking towards the cash registers. I thought this was really good service. In addition, they had some discount program of 10% for students so if you are a student, be sure to get this discount card which is applicable to all Blick stores. read more

This is coming from a non-artist, performing some rudimentary decorations on store-bought bowls and plates. The staff is wonderful and knowledgeable, the stock of items seem pretty decent. Hey, they have a underground parking garage but Blick only gets some of the spaces and shares with other businesses. I had an unpleasant Austin Powers type situation down there trying to navigate in my truck, I prefer the metered street parking on Beverly or the nearest side street. But you probably have more city skills than I do. Everyone is very nice and helpful. I shopped for street art supplies, copic markers and paper, fabric paint, and special lettering and outlining markers. They have a good selection but not everything I needed. They did match the online price when I asked. They also hold cool workshops from time to time so sign up to get notified. And there is a bathroom up the stairs on the left when you enter. read more

Checked the Blick's website for some Architectural Vellum sheets. First of all the description of the item is wrong. It says Engineering Vellum but the picture is Architectural vellum. The price on the website is $1.38 but in store they sell it for $2.10. Went to Pasadena store since it's closer to me but they didn't have any so I ended up calling Beverly Hills store and have them on hold. My mistake was trusting them and not checking every single sheet. I ended up paying full price for the sheets and just got my student discount (10%)and $2 off (even though they are cheaper online). After I got home, I checked the sheets and 3 of them are in completely not acceptable conditions. There is ink and pencil mark on them. I called the store and explained the condition of the vellums and explained to the manager I live far and won't be easy for me to drive all the way back to exchange them but instead of trying to find a way to help me he said "what do you want me to do? Drive to you and exchange them?" Horrible customer service and horrible experience!!! read more

There is a parking structure off pointsettia place directly under the store. It was so much fun to look around at all the art supplies and it appeared to be well stocked with a variety of tools you may need. I spent roughly $40 total on 3 different sketchpads. It felt pricy when I walked out thinking to myself I just spent forty bucks on paper, but I think I got a better deal than I could have elsewhere. I will most likely check out more independently owned art stores in addition to my future trips here. read more

The employees here are consistently excellent and always very helpful but the last time I was there they truly went above and beyond. I needed mat board to cut a custom mat (which I hate doing and am terrible at) when one of the employees suggested that they had custom mat cutting available. The women at the framing section were super helpful, cut the mat while I waited, and even expertly installed it art and mat into the frame for me. I first called and talked to a manager about Snazaroo face paints and was told they carry that product line. Having also looked at their website, I went to this location to get one of the 'pallet sets', which they did not have. Now, I did not ask the manager specifically about this item, so no fault there. I had an amazing experience with the Blick Art Framing and Design Department. There are some really awesome, caring people that work there. Justin, Matt, and Daniel all did whatever they could to make sure that my large format print and framing went smoothly. They went way out of their way to help me through the entire process. I would definitely recommend Blick Art in Hollywood if you are wanting to get a print made or something framed. Amazing customer service, high quality printing and framing. I had an 8" x 10" digital file that I needed to be blown up to around 4' x 5' for a company. Justin did whatever he could to help me through the entire process. He was extremely helpful, kind, and generous. The file was too small to print that large so Daniel printed a 15" x 24" print for me to have scanned in at another business so that we could have a higher resolution file to work with. Daniel also went out of his way to touch up the image so that it would look its best when printed large. The framing turned out nicely as well. I had to ship the print to San Francisco so Matt helped me wrap the huge framed print in bubble wrap and package it. Then whenever the FedEx freight came Daniel and Matt helped me with the shipping process. read more

I went on a Saturday afternoon and their parking lot located below was plentiful. Anytime I'm feeling "lost" or fuzzy brained I love to come here. It inspires me to be someone who I'm not, an artist. But more than anything it gives me lots of ideas. There are things here that I didn't know existed. Also, it's a great place to go when you have to buy a present for someone that you don't know what to get them. Arrived with a list of items to purchase , it was a big deal since I live so far away (70+ miles away) , I had called ahead to make sure they had some of the things I needed , they had a bunch of good paint on clearance , nice right? I grabbed it and when it rang up at the register cheaper than the clearance price , ( by a few dollars not anything drastic) the cashier called a manager to adjust it back up. They also scoffed at me when I couldn't find the items that they had said were available on the phone , because they " don't carry those items in store " , ok , but that's why I called and asked first. This trip would have been better spent as an online order with amazon or Jerry's Artarama or even a drive down to Art supply warehouse. read more

Actually I am not sure why I am writing a review for Blick (formerly know as the Art Store). I can say that I stop in every so often since its near my office and I was formerly an art school graduate (architecture has sucked the creative juice outta my blood and replaced it with a lumps of coal) So when I am feeling a creative surge after a long day of drawing on the computer I swing by here and pick ups some tools to aid my creative resuscitation. This place is great if you need a portfolio, pads of paper, some pantone pens, pencils, paint, etc. They have the basics covered. On the other hand they have a pretty meager selection of anything architecture related (drafting, or model building supplies) So I usually skip out on Blick if I need work related crap but I still come by for other things. If architecture supplies are what you need head down La Cienega to Graphaids, they have just about everything that I usually need and then some. (I warn you because if for some reason you have never actually set foot in an art store beware you will find many things to spend all your hard earned dollars on, trust me on this one). Bonus too at Blick and most of the other art supply stores they offer discounts to students and companies. If you are a schmuck like me you have to pay regular price. BOO TO YOU BLICK! I'm used to going to the pasadena one, so I am biased, assuming quality of staff would be around the same. Not that pasadena is superb, but at least most of them are artists. Fairfax was more full of hipsters and instead of getting a separate bag for my delicate brushes, like they do in pasadena, the girl apathetically dropped the brushes in the big bag where it could get messed up and bent and then said "have a good day", like a bad 90s movie. Jeez. Good job, kid. The place is very small and parking is a pain in their small lot. If you have to go to blicks, you might as well go to this one. Primarily most of my retail experiences in Los Angeles are held here. Like most artists in LA, we probably shop here more than we do the grocery store. The Staff: The staff is friendly and very helpful. However, from some of the reviews where they've said that no one helped them, you technically have to ask for it (thats how non commissioned medium volume chain retail works hon). Whenever I have asked any of the workers for anything, they have gladly obliged and have been very great about it. I really like the staff here and haven't run into any problems yet. They even remember my name when I come back which is astounding. The Store: The store is very clean and well run. The only downside comparatively to other Dick Blicks (Mainly speaking about the San Francisco and Seattle locations), is that it is a little small and therefore the breadth of things (IE: Golden acrylic paint, brushes) is lower than others. The Selection: While I have mentioned the breadth of things, their ability to replenish things is great. If they don't have what you need because it is out of stock, it generally will be there the following week. If you are impatient, please go somewhere else. Parking: The building contains an indoor parking spot underneath the structure which is great for the location off of Beverly, because most of the other stores in the area do not have this luxury.. and well the area is generally filled with crazy street parking rules, fines, and fees. Overall: If you need art supplies and live in Hollywood or the surrounding area, this is definitely the place to go, and it sure beats going to Pearl which is rightfully closed! read more
