Great little shop. I needed glass replaced on an existing frame and even though they close up their frame setting at 4:45pm (shortly before they close) when I called the store attendant said I could at least drop it off. However when I got there she took one look and said- "oh this is easy" and got the fella in the back to quickly turn the order around in 5 minutes! I was so surprised and pleased. While waiting I saw they had a lot of great art supplies at a good price. They even have some funky art hanging on the wall to give inspiration on all the cool stuff someone can do, or if you are challenged with a pen you can buy the displayed art right there. Support your local businesses! Earlier this year, I purchased a vintage poster that I needed framed. Having taken another purchase to a frame shop in Mid-City that was recommended by the shop. I ended up paying an arm and a leg, for that job, so for my next poster, I decided to give Baller Art Ware a shot given it's right down the street from our house. I took it in, and the very friendly person at the front helped me pick a frame material, walked me through the process, and explained that they are very backed up, and it would take about 8 weeks to complete the job. They quoted me a very reasonable price, and I was in no hurry so I had them proceed. The framer called me a couple days later, concerned with some of the details of the job. He probably could've been a little friendlier on the phone, I've seen some reviews to that effect, but at the end of the day i appreciated that he just really wanted to do a good job, and do right by the vintage poster. We agreed on a path forward and that was it. At the end of the day, they set expectations for how long it would take, and they met their estimate, did a beautiful job with the frame, and charged a very fair price for the job. I couldn't ask for more and will be back next time! read more

Don't use this place to do your framing. The hardware store across the street is great. been going there for years. That's why I ignored the negative reviews for the framing services. I shouldn't have. I brought in an art piece that had been framed and matted, and asked them to duplicate the mat and frame for a second matching art piece. They put in a different color mat. Didn't match the cut or size of the mat. Didn't match the way the frame was hung. Baller: "sorry, we couldn't find a match." Then why didn't you call me and say so? I needed the piece for an art show. then I'll redo it somewhere else. Believe the reviews. The hardware store is great. The framing service is not good. read more

The staff here is so incredibly rude. I called to see when I could pick up my framed art, due today. The framer - who interrupted me twice in our short conversation - apparently didn't plan on having it ready today. "Come in at 5:30. We close then." I said I would try to make it. He said, "We're not gonna call you. Just come in." The woman at the front desk makes you feel like you're interrupting her day if you ask a question or want to purchase something. Rude! The only reason I did give two stars is that the frame job was pretty well done. However, I'll go elsewhere in the future. It's not worth the attitude. read more

They are consistently late with their due dates, and there are 3 framing places that are better, more options, faster and significantly cheaper within a couple miles - "quick frame" in Atwater for example. I didn't know where to begin so I started in the damn middle--then the back---back to the front---down the middle isle again. There were things here that I have never heard of. The "5" star is for the service, no wait, it is for the caring! My wife had an odd size piece of art work to frame. We had tried many frame shops to no avail to find the correct mat size. So we stopped by at baller as it is close to our son's apartment for who the art work was for. We stopped in to ask if they had the size frame we were looking for. The answer was 'no" but instead of just letting us go, the lady asked if she could check the inventory of odd size frames to see if any fit, none did. Then she suggested we but a certain frame size, and return and she would cut/custom fit the mat. With directions in hand we found a frame size needed, returned and she did as she suggested, in fact, did something better! We loved it. Now, another story of customer service thats caring. As we were in line, a young mother holding a child in her hand, so she has one free hand, competes her transaction and now has to sign the credit card slip. Rather than letting the customer fumble with the flimsy card slip; she held it down so the customer could easily sign - thus being the second hand that was busy holding her 9 mo child. I needed internal wood frames for already completed canvas'. My artwork needed to be measured. The woman behind the counter made no effort to clear space for my canvas and then, she handled my paintings so recklessly and carelessly that I had to stop her and roll them myself. The paintings represented months of work and she showed zero respect. When I asked about canvas sales, she said it was 50% off. I took my time to carefully choose a roll that would work but when I went to pay she told me only the prestretched canvas was on sale. it was all in all a sad experience. All I wanted to do was give my business to a local shop instead of the big box, one size fits all art stores. oh well. read more

I just had my first experience with Baller Art Ware, and I wanted to lodge a good review for them here. I'm cooking up a small art project, and I needed something semi-unusual to make it work, so I called Baller, as they're the closest art supply business within a small radius of my home. I explained what I was looking for over the phone, and the woman helping me knew exactly what they had in stock that might work, and she gave me some options. I then drove over, made use of their small parking lot (a huge bonus in this neighborhood), and the same woman (whose name I neglected to get...) walked me directly over to the goods she'd mentioned on the phone. She was there to help, but without being intrusive, and without trying to sell me anything else that I wasn't after. I'd been pressed for time, too, but I managed to get in and back out within five minutes, total. I would absolutely return to Baller Art Ware for any art-related needs I might have in the future! read more

I'm not a huge fan of negative reviews, but this is necessary. I dropped off a poster to be framed on 4/21/2021, very simple nothing special just needed a decent frame for it. Unfortunately for me, I was charged almost $120.00 and they took about 21 days to finish it. I called multiple times to check in on what the status of my art piece being framed was and was told, "Just wait till we call you." Next time my advice to anyone here is just go to Aaron Brothers and save yourself a ton of money and time. read more

An eclectic little shop full of inspiring supplies. A few pottery tools for Mother's Day and I absolutely adore the wrapping papers they have in the back, exclusive and personal. The shop is tiny and Carol was helpful but didn't bug me when I just wanted to look around at everything (and take a few pictures!!). I've been meaning to write this review for a horrible experience I had there a while back. My blood pressure rises every time I think of it. We had an original Banksy print that we wanted to have framed, and we went to Baller on a recommendation from a friend. The store clerk who apparently was doubling as the framing department laid out the print on the checkout counter which was the only counter available to lay out the art work. Some woman came and threw a bunch of art supplies on the print, scratching it. The store clerk and customer that scratched the print couldn't understand why we were appalled. The print had text on it that read "Sale Ends Today" which both the store clerk and customer argued with us wasn't even "art" so why were we so upset? WTF?! If you want your artwork ridiculed and damaged with no apology, this is your spot. Some people may argue whether Banksy is "art" or not, but isn't that besides the point?? And is it really up to the man at the framing place to decide? And why don't they have a separate place to lay out your artwork so things like this don't happen? And, and, and.... read more

I'm new to the art world. I went to a Yelp Elite Event a month ago that involved paint & wine - need I say more? I was bit in the ass by the paint bug, hard, and I've been looking to scratch that itch ever since. By the way of yelp reviews, I found this quaint little shop in the heart of Silverlake that I looked up in hopes of getting some acrylic paints and canvases. They have that and MUCH, MUCH more in this store! It's really like an art candy shoppe - everything from markers, pens, pencils, crayons, spray paint, chalk...and every type of paint imaginable along with a huge selection of mediums to choose from. They have an entire 'upper' level here dedicated to mediums - wood, canvas, paper, etc. It's pretty awesome..and slightly overwhelming if you don't know exactly what you're looking for. They also have a super cool selection of fancy printed paper - you could use it to wrap gifts for that special touch, line drawers in your kitchen, or even plaster right up on the wall as it's own piece of art. You also can't forget the giant selection of brushes; I got a basic starter set that came with 12 brushes for only 14 bucks - sounds like a steal to me. I was really impressed with the prices here - not nearly what I was expecting. Struggling artist who? The only downside was the lady up front seemed a little bored and wasn't exactly reaching out to help me or any one else passing through - but I overheard her answering a question when asked and was knowledgable. It was fairly hot the day I visited and towards the closing hours of the store - but the service did leave a little to be desired. I can deal with that, though would have been nice if the lady at the counter had been walking around and actually giving customer service because then maybe I would have learned something more about the paints I selected or the practice canvases I purchased. For the fairness in price, convenience of location, ease of parking, and hugely amazing selection of goods, I'll return again. read more

I went to and called several art supply stores looking for PanPastels and no one seems to carry them. Luckily I called Baller and the lady on the phone was very helpful. They do have PanPastels and she read off all of the color sets that they carry. When I went in to buy they were actually on sale for a pretty good deal. They also had a lot of the soft tools needed for the pan pastels. Over all it was a good experience and I am super stoked that I finally found an art store that carries PanPastels. read more

More often than not, a friendly voice in Baller has been able to help. Love Baller Art! I'm a graphic and interior designer so I'm constantly picking up Micron, Prismacolor, foam core, poster board and acrylic paints! They're my fave because it's a teeny store that actually has everything you could ever need! They also have a killer selection of poster-size wrapping papers that are great for framing in IKEA Ribba frames. They seriously look like you spent hundreds.
