I had the most horrific experience with the manager while shopping here yesterday. After a long drive from home, I politely asked the manager if I could use the ladies room. She in return (with a very loud voice) told me that restroom is only for the employees and I couldn't because the corporate office will get mad at her if she let the customers use it. I could surely understand the policy during COVID but what hurt me the most besides my bladder was the manager's unwelcoming, rudeness, loud, unkind, harsh, and negative attitude. Treating the customers with kindness and compassion is surely one way of bringing in more business. I don't think I can come back to this store again for being humiliated for just needing to use the restroom. I will definitely spend my money somewhere else where there is truly a welcoming and positive energy. read more

They have a great selection of everything we need then go that extra mile with their Great Customer service and willingness to track down any product your looking for. I've had the same problem for the last two years now with mislabeled watercolor paper at the Venice store on Lincoln ave. The drawer labeled "Arches 300 lb. Cold Press" was actually Fabriano. I live in Belize By the time I get there it is too late to correct. This year I took two sheets to the check out and asked if they could tell by the hand written number if the paper was in fact Arches? The clerk entered the number and said it was just listed as 300 lb. Cold Press. I asked if the manufacture was listed. She said No. Since I could not see the Arches watermark I declined to purchase. This is most disappointing. Arches uses animal based sizing where Fabriano uses Vegetable based sizing. It makes a big difference in how the paper receives paint and water. read more

My experience there was wonderful. It's been awhile since I've gone here and I must say that I enjoyed the experience. Everyone greeted me and my son and it made me feel that my presence was important. I ended up just showing my son around since it was his first time and Isaac was very polite in introducing me to the Prismacolor markers. Afterwards, Gabby was very courteous and helped me get signed to the rewards program. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip there and I have a great feeling I will be back here soon. Sales personal are very helpful! But i don't enjoy shopping there because of a particular manager. It's a shame to see good, hard working young men and woman work under a smart mouth, unprofessional classless individual. The last time I shopped there was in Jan maybe Feb. While my items were being itimized at the counter the manager interrupted the sales clerk with an unbearable attitude and tone of voice. Earlier this week my little cousin visiting from out if town wanted to shop there and I was more than happy to take her to Blick's. She is an amazing artist! As soon as we walked in the store i could see and hear the manager speaking rudely asking no nonsense questions to an employee in front of me, a customer! He, knowing that I'm an earshot away continued drilling this younger man, who by the way was very helpful wearing a smile all the time we were shopping assisting me and my guest. Please Blick teach this young man ethics in the work place.. He is a manager! Instantly, remembering why I take my business to the WLA store driving 20 minutes as opposed to the .5 mile drive to the Lincoln Store. read more

This place is really well organized and the cashier that rung me up was really friendly. I had no trouble finding what i needed. I wanted to paint something for my apartment but I couldn't decide which paint colors I would need. But I was able to find a bunch of starter kits and they were on sale!!!! Also the canvases were fairly cheap :) TLDR: Nice place to buy a paint set if you're new to this and canvases. read more

Short review here, but I really wanted to point out the amazing customer service. I'm an Otis student, and there was something I needed for a class that they didn't carry at this particular location. I guess I'm not the only one that asked about it, so someone in the store actually copied my list from the instructor so they could get the materials for future classes too! Employees helped me find everything that I needed, even going as far as to searching behind sets of graphite to find me a hidden pack of charcoal with the same type of packaging and walking with me around the store. I will add that everything I've needed here has been WAAAY cheaper than Michael's even with the coupons Michael's has, and a some of the stuff is cheaper than buying online too. read more

I've shopped at Blick's exclusively for years. Some years I bought a lot. Some years I bought a little. Today I went into store in West L.A. with some deco markers I probably bought in December of 2018, but did start to use until this month. One half were fine, some were not. Despite much shaking they remained watery and left an oily stain. I talked to the manager and she looked up my history, telling me I bought them too long ago and she could not refund or give me credit. It was store policy. Nobody was rude, I did not argue. I understood, but not what she wanted me to -- that it was company policy, she had no choice. That I do not much believe. I can't impose my values on the store; however I would have exchanged the product, reasoning that I would keep the customer and (likely) get credit from the vendor. A 6 month window would not have bothered me with a current vendor, satisfying a repeat customer would have taken priority. I understand I have no value beyond the price -- whatever it would have cost them -- of the markers. I am going to look elsewhere for supplies, share my story, and find a new store. Today I was asked to leave the art store "Blick" on Ocean Park because I showed the clerk a picture of this colourful 2nd street "Saskia" mural, see below. I am the Artist who originally painted it and just recently, 'reimagined it". I was asking/ showing a sales girl about a paint that would not fade. Little did I know she was absoutely appaled by this image unbeknownst to me. She told the manager, he told the district manager. While I was shopping under complete normal conditions for product, I was absolutely shocked when the manager came to me and asked me to "leave" further, "your not welcome here", "you offended the sales girl with your photo". I was trying to explain myself that hugh...? this is a bikini, we are basically at the beach, we are at an art store... etc... Didn't matter...Now mind you, this mural and all of its rich subjects who have posed in front of it from Microsoft to Sketchers, to Nike, to among the most filmed in front of instagram walls with literally millions of views... I have been a successful artist in this town for 30 years and considered to be very "likable" person. I am in shock as I write this... totally censored in Santa Monica... For What!!! I dont know! This is the only Blick store I will shop. The staff are not only knowledgeable but also friendly. I can't say that about all locations. My last trip all of the staff were personable and made my shopping experience not just pleasant but fun. When your there ask for Jonathan in particular, he went above and beyond in his customer service, making sure I knew about applicable upcoming specials and custom ordering brushes that weren't in stock. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I came here on Monday and bought $40 worth of materials to get home and realize they double charged me... My account was then in negative and so I was charged a $35 fee. I call the store and they proceed to tell me that I must come IN PERSON to get reimbursed. ? I do not own a car so I had to take a 2 hour metro ride to Santa Monica. I spent nearly 3 hours at the store as they "tried" to fix the problem. 3 hours later...STILL not fixed..they take my name, number, email and address down and tell me they will "see what they can do"...what? No concrete answer.. I just paid $80 for stationary...WTF.. super unprofessional read more

If possible, go to the Beverly location instead. Associates there seem to be nicer & more helpful. Tip: Don't tell customers that they'll get a better deal by using a student discount instead of the coupon that Blick sent via email when that's 100% false. Art supplies aren't cheap. read more

So, they have lots of great supplies and I decided to pick up a couple of tools as it is a walk from my home. Sadly I feel that customer service is very lacking. When I was trying to find a certain type of paper, they just told me to go to the back and I couldn't miss it. Then I checked out and as I paid I quickly realized that I didn't get my discount. Even though I used my preferred discount card. Apparently that is not what it is? I asked and she didn't really answer me. They said, sorry, we would have to return your items and redo the transaction. I would totally do this as a cashier to help the customer where I work but they were unwilling despite no one else in line. Meh. Showed up 8 mins before closing on a Monday, and moseyed over to the moleskin rack and paroozed for about 5 mins. It was after I found my notebook that I found Matt , an employee busy closing up, and asked him a question about a passing thought. Did they have roles of silk screen mesh. Well he took me to two parts of the store and showed me all of their options. With patients he indulged my questions that were irrelevant to the actual product and rung me up with a smile as the clock ticked passed 9:00 pm, their closing time. Matt then escorted me out, unlocking the door and wishing me happy holidays. Overall the customer service was great but Matt truly set a significant standard of employee aptitude and I would go back just to have him help me out, the man deserves a raise. read more
