We decided to order just appetizers and I'm so glad we did because the taste was amazing and we had leftovers to bring home. I ordered the yellow tail Ceviche which was delicious and came will a large plate of tortilla chips. My friend got the bbq chicken wings with barbecue sauce and blue cheese dip on the side that he said was amazing! Great spot for a gourmet burger you wont regret visiting for. Ample parking on side of building in downtown Royal Oak is worthwhile alone. Very cool and inviting ambience inside. They have a lot of TVs great for watching sporting events. Had The Boom Shakalaka Cheeseburger which is a signature specialty at ⁠Blind Owl. This decadent, half-pound patty comes stacked with Gruyère and Fontina cheese, peppered bacon, arugula, tomato, Worcestershire aioli, and a dill pickle on a brioche bun. We started with the trio dip appetizer, which ended up being the highlight of the meal. The chips were warm, fresh, and nicely seasoned. The queso had good flavor, but if it had been creamier and served hotter it would have easily been a 10/10. The menu concept was a bit confusing since it combines tacos and sushi, two very different styles, but I was open to it if the execution was strong. Unfortunately, it wasn't. Our table ordered the birria, mahi mahi, chicken shawarma, and carne asada tacos, and none of them landed. The rice was hard and cold, and after about an hour wait the food arrived cold overall and very underwhelming. I took one bite from two tacos and couldn't continue. Our server, Lilly, was the standout of the evening. She was attentive, friendly, and handled everything professionally. She shared that the manager would only allow 50% off the food, which felt disappointing considering how little was actually eaten. A fun sports bar in downtown Royal Oak, with more than the Stereotypical choices. They do have a curated cocktail list. I enjoyed both of the beverages I chose. I also really liked the Street taco options, with multiple choices available for vegetarians. Service was friendly and prompt. This place looks like it hops on a weekend night, but we were there for lunch on a weekday afternoon so it was pretty chill. Our server was Jeremy and he was great - friendly, detailed oriented, knowledgeable and attentive - we couldn't ask for anything more. We split the flautas and the fajitas and both were very good. I'm not sure how they seasoned the shrimp for the fajitas, but it was very tasty, which is good, because the chicken was a little dry. Overall, a really positive experience. And I can't forget this: several reviews I read before our visit commented on how clean the bathrooms were. If you're looking for a restaurant that has a wide variety of food options (quite literally nearly anything you can think of) this is the place to go! They have everything from tacos, pizza, french dips, monte cristos, sushi, burgers, shawarma, and more! No one will be disappointed! The many options made it a hard decision--I had originally planned to get sushi but it is only offered after 4 PM (same with the pizzas). However there were plenty of other choices available! I got the 3 taco plate, which comes with a side of rice and black beans. For my tacos I picked the lamb braisin' birria, roastin sweet pork, and the halloumi cheese and mango. They were all delicious--the halloumi cheese with mango one really stuck out to me! There is patio seating which is great for nice weather and there are multiple tables that can accommodate large parties of 8! Blind Owl has an extensive menu: sushi, tacos, burgers etc. I think that's pretty cool to have all of that on the menu. So this is a good spot if you're a Royal Oaker. The prices aren't stupid either. Dinner for two is around average and that's with a few apps, 6 tacos, and drinks. I always go to the one in New Baltimore but was in Royal Oak on a Sunday early afternoon and seen they had a location here. I got what I always get for brunch the boom shakalaka burrito and it was fantastic here as well, actually bigger here! This location is much bigger and had plenty of space which was nice! Food and drinks were fine, but I honestly thought our waitress was on drugs. I went in a few days ago with two friends. I got a drink, one friend got a margarita and a quesadilla, and the other got a cocktail and a burger. Our server asked my friend if he wanted a second margarita, and he said yes. We then didn't see her for 30+ minutes and finally just asked for the bill. (Keep in mind he never got that second margarita.) She brings out a bill with a charge for two margaritas. My friend explained he only received one, and she argued that he did in fact get two -- basically insinuating we were lying and trying to pull a fast one, which is extremely insulting over one margarita. I have been here twice now and I will say they have an EXTREMELY large menu which to me is pretty overwhelming. The menu ranges from sushi to Mexican food to pasta- it just seems like there is no one things that they specialize in and to me that's screams that all of the food is going to be mid- which to me it was. The pizza I ordered was okay, but it was a bit on the too oily side. The Swedish salad tasted good. The new menu centers on Japanese/sushi and Mexican, but the house specials are alfredo and french dip. The food is a little pricey. The bar menu is pricey and the tap list is small. The cocktails are all premixes, but priced as handmade. Service was okay. Not a huge fan. There are better options in Royal Oak and Ferndale. read more

Came here for brunch last week and it was pretty good! I had the brunch burrito with sausage and honestly I couldn't find one piece in my entire burrito. The homestyle potatoes it came with were pretty good though! Inside of the place is cool and service was fine. Food wasn't mind blowing but everyone said their meals were fine, nothing to run back for. They do charge 18% tip no matter the party size (we were 3 people) so make sure you keep that in mind before you tip on top of that on accident. Love that they have a private lot as well. read more

This review is solely on the lack of service. I visited Michigan for a nephews graduation and me and my husband and the in laws decided to dine at this restaurant. First and foremost we were seated right away but to actually get our order was about 30 min. If it wasn't for us complaining I don't think we would have gotten served at all. Joey the bar tender was great and the only reason we actually got our order taken and delivered JOEY IS GREAT AND DESERVES A RAISE because he was the only one actually working him and the cook. The cook did mess up our order but Joey again fixed it. Thank you Joey because you actually work and do your job. For the other fat servers that can't moved their behind and work like you like the tips that this establishment makes you pay by force you'd have nothing because you are lazy and slow. On the flip side, the management was extremely friendly and quick to jump in without us asking. So, maybe the waiter was new or filling in. Not sure, so mixed overall experience. A friend and I were sharing fond memories of the Monte Crisco sandwich at Bennigan's. That trip down great sandwich memory lane prompted a Google search of Monte Criscos near me, which delivered a ton of restaurants in the search results. However, most of the restaurants listed served up a sad version of the Monte Crisco in my opinion because they all lacked a key feature- None of them were dipped in egg batter and DEEP FRIED like Bennigan's. Lo and behold and all thanks to sweet baby Jesus, one of the restaurants listed delivered on what was a deal breaker for me- The Blind Owl! The sandwich was delicious and exactly like Bennigan's.
