Decorations looked great. You think you're going to an authentic restaurant. Wow, we were so wrong. First, we had a hair in our salsa. Brought it up to the waitress and she stated can I get you some more? Then tostadas were stale and the ceviche fishy. We brought it up to her and she said ok and just took the plate away. Then the tequila clay cup had a leak and my drink was leaking out. My husband had the same type cup and it was dry underneath. The manager stated it was condensation. However, the liquid puddle around the bottom of the cup was getting larger and larger. I'm very disappointed with my experience at Aldana Mexican Grill in Troy. I had a 6:00 p.m. reservation and arrived on time. When I walked in, the host was on the phone. He clearly saw me, walked toward the back to finish his call, and when he returned, he immediately greeted a white woman who had walked in after me. She actually had to tell him that I was there first. He then seated my party, apologized, and said he "didn't see me," although from where I was standing, I find that very difficult to believe. Unfortunately, the service did not improve. Our waiter did not take our food order until approximately 6:45 p.m. Once our food arrived, one of my fish tacos was visibly burnt. I tried several times to get our waiter's attention so I could send it back, and we were repeatedly ignored. He also never returned to check on our table, ask how the food was, or see if we wanted another drink or needed anything else. I eventually tried to get the manager's attention and was also ignored until another waitress noticed and let her know that we had been trying to speak with her. When the manager finally came over, she was very focused on taking the burnt taco back and offering to replace it. At that point, I no longer wanted another taco. I explained that the issue was much bigger than one burnt item--the poor treatment and lack of service had started from the moment we walked through the door. Our waiter mentioned that they were short-staffed. I completely understand that restaurants can have staffing issues, but what made this experience especially troubling was watching customers who arrived after us or around the same time receive timely, attentive service while our table repeatedly struggled to get anyone's attention. If the restaurant were simply overwhelmed, I would have expected to see multiple tables experiencing similar delays. That was not what I observed. I don't make accusations like this lightly, but the pattern of being overlooked, ignored, and treated differently throughout the evening felt microaggressive and racially biased to me. The interaction at the host stand, followed by the noticeably different level of service we received compared with other customers, made my party feel unwelcome. We came to celebrate and enjoy dinner, and instead spent much of the evening trying to get basic service. I hope management takes experiences like this seriously and looks closely at how all guests are acknowledged and treated, because no customer should leave a restaurant feeling as though they were intentionally invisible. read more

From the looks of the nicely decorated decor I expected the food and drinks to be of top quality. Not so!!!! Northing we ordered had any seasoning. Tortilla soup was luke warm, and had no flavor at all. Filled with tortilla strips that were soggy. My beef chimichanga was horrible! The classic margarita was presented to me tasted good. Waiter came with another one saying he gave me the wrong one. Second one tasted like awful!!! The bartender told my server he took the wrong one. Not his fault. I never complain or send food back. This time I could not swallow paying for overpriced food and drinks that tasted awful. Manager comped our food. We still paid 30 some dollars for two drinks that sucked and I didn't drink mine. Nestled in a shopping complex Ample parking. When you walk in the decor with glass blown lights and art deco chairs emblazoned with Mexican art is beautiful and welcoming . Ample Seating for large or small parties. Waiter was prompt and helpful explaining dishes. Had the Mexican Street corn to start which I highly recommend. Served on the cob was simply amazing flavor. I love going to a restaurant where they greet you at the table with chips and salsa. Aldana's does this with 3 salsas! 2 spicy and one mild, all delicious and fresh. My spinach enchiladas were delicioso and full of flavor. I really appreciated that they put the pico, sour cream and guac in a lettuce leaf because it kept it all together without oozing on my meal. The food came out fairly quickly and our server was incredibly nice and attentive. While I didn't get a margarita, many people around us did and they looked large and delicious! First of all the service and the ambiance is amazing. It's a very lovely place inside, the decor is nice and it's just fun being there. The service was great too, even though we stopped in for a late lunch so there were only a couple other tables. The food is just alright. They have a small lunch menu with $15 items and a larger any time menu. For the most part, the prices are a little too high for the food you get. The menu lacks creativity and originality to be charging these kind of prices. It's chain restaurant food for higher prices. We got the lunch quesadillas, which do come with more than enough food, but the chicken tinga lacked flavor and there was no where near enough cheese in the quesadillas. They were able to do a vegetable quesadilla for my mom, which was nice. The complimentary chips and salsa were a nice touch. The salsas were tasty and the chips were fresh! A couple tables had margaritas that looked really tasty, but it was the middle of a work day so I skipped. If I come back, I'll try one. The host was nice, even dealing with a busy dinner crowd all by herself. The server started off fine, however didn't bring one of my two beverages I ordered at the start (a water and a horchata). She did bring out a glass of ice-less water for my dinner date, however. She did come back with a glass of ice water for me, after asking about it. When taking our drink order, asked us if we wanted "any queso," to which we agreed. Even though we informed her that this was our first time in, she didn't inform us that we'd also be getting complimentary chips and salsa. Pretty nice, but probably wouldn't have ordered the queso if we knew that. I had the chicken mole, and it was pretty good, although very pricey for what you get (rice, a plate full of chicken with 3 radish slices and 6-10 pieces of pickled onion, 5 tortillas). Dinner date ordered spinach enchiladas, server asked with green or red sauce, and then it came with neither. Their food was still good, and our child loved the rice and beans and the mole chicken. The server did not refill our waters until after we had asked for boxes and the check. The last issue was the check. Everything on the menu was clearly priced, no surprised there, but the one surprise was that we were charged for the most expensive queso of the three queso options on the menu, after the server asked us if we wanted "any queso." We weren't provided chips for this most expensive queso that we didn't know we were ordering, so it really felt like an extra poor value, and bringing us the most expensive of the 3 offerings, without informing us of the options, felt really scummy. Again, the food was good enough, but the server and the service she provided (and the manner that it was provided) is probably going to turn us off from returning. read more

The inside of the restaurant was very nicely decorated, the patio looked nice as well. The margarita was served in a very large glass, it was tasty but I couldn't taste the tequila, it was on the weak side. Once I finished the drink I poured my have glass of water into the glass to see that it filled the margarita glass, with the amount of ice it was very deceiving as to how much liquid was actually in the glass. Chips and salsa were good. They give three different kinds of salsa. A mild, a verde salsa and the third I would just call it a hot sauce based on consistency. Tacos were good, although we had a view of the pass and I saw our table's two orders of taco sitting at the pass for over five minutes while the fajitas that were order be ready. My beans and rice were just warm due to this. Of the tacos I thought the chicken tacos were better than the steak taco. Steak was just small bits of meat. The chicken in the fajitas was the best, had a real tasty smokiness to the chicken. Overall I just found it to be very pricy: $20 for three tacos. $29 for fajitas. read more

One of the main reasons I wanted to give Aldana's a try is because the menu was so easy to navigate for vegan and dairy-free dietary restrictions. The complimentary chips and salsa were just how I like my Mexican restaurant chips and salsa. Three salsa options to try with fresh chips, it started the experience off on a good note. I had the veggie burrito with red sauce, which looked more orange, and it was huge! It was delicious and I would order it again next time. While I didn't partake, the margaritas are huge and very good, I was told. The service was great, attentive despite the busy Saturday night and I felt comfortable that my allergies and preferences were taken seriously so I could enjoy my meal. For a table for two we had no wait but larger parties might want to plan ahead as there were several waiting to be seated. I loved the ambiance and decor inside. The reviews were good on this place so why not - I guess we actually had good timing because this place will get little spurts of crowds then it would be dead. Our server was super friendly made great recommendations especially when it came to the margaritas - Make sure you at least try one and we came not during happy hour So the prices wasn't bad. Only thing that I was not a fan of it's kind of how tight some areas are when you're walking through - they were trying to accommodate a big group which made the other sitting areas a little bit tight but luckily there was not a crowd You just kind of had to weave in and out no straight shot to enter or exit. We sat down and were greeted with chips and salsa (which is always the best part of going to a Mexican restaurant). Their menu is honestly huge so it took me a while to decide what to order, but I ended up going with the chiles rellenos. I didn't add in any extra protein, but it was still very filling! It was very flavorful, served with a side of tortillas, and rice and beans. It was sooo delicious. I was surprised with how fast the food came out! Awesome place to eat in Detroit! It's like stepping into Mexico upon entering this restaurant. There's art everywhere. Something to look at everywhere you turn. I ordered the chicken and the beef tacos, and they were decent, however, there was little meat in the ones in which I ordered.
