I love a Mexican restaurant that is great at traditional and southwest. The tostada was probably one other best ever. Yes, they are messy, but it's worth it. The table was oddly high and big, and we found ourselves yelling to hear each other. I ordered a margarita and the Mezcal Soup which had a deceiving title. There is no mezcal in the soup or flavor, it's just because of the name of the restaurant. It's like a chicken tortilla soup with cream and chipotle. It was 10/10! I ate here while visiting a friend (I'm from out of town), and the food was a lot better than I thought it would be. I live in an area that's know for good Mexican food, so I'm always skeptical when I leave the region. The enchiladas were great, as were the rice and beans and the chips and dip trio. The service was pretty lousy, especially considering it was kind of late (we dined around 9p) and the restaurant wasn't very busy. We sat at our table waiting for the check, in view of at least two servers, and we had to go up and ask one of them to get it because, even though they were only a few feet away, both were on their phones the entire time. Also, the bathrooms really needed some TLC. I'd go back, but not if I'm in a hurry. Recommend! read more

The host and all servers are very friendly. The issue here is the service is just super slow. The chicken nachos is a very decent portion size. We don't eat out very often these days, but we wanted to give Mezcal a try. It's extra disappointing when you finally do go out hoping for a nice dinner and the restaurant falls short. Service was remarkably slow. It took 15 minutes to even be addressed by a server, questioning if we were his table and then returning 5 minutes later to say we were, dropping off waters, and still making us wait to order. It was at least 20/25 minutes before we were able to order drinks and an appetizer. Our chips came quickly, the trio of dips was good! We waited a while for our drinks. We ordered spicy palomas with mezcal and they were great. After another long wait, we finally got a hold of our server to order their new fajitas. They forgot the beans and rice so we waited again to address that. Don't order the fajitas expecting a typical Mexican restaurant experience - portion was quite small. We had maybe 3 oz of chicken and mostly a skillet of peppers and onions. The fajitas did not come with any toppings like salsa. We *again* waited 15 minutes from the time we requested our check until receiving it. It was just a TON of waiting. Food was pretty good but the experience ruined it. It's okay to wait for food or drinks, but not to be addressed by staff. We felt neglected and I would hate to recommend this place and have the same happen to you. read more

I ordered the mezcal soup and it was so spicy hot that it was hard to eat. When I read the description it wasn't obvious that this was a very spicy dish. It was full of chicken and tasted great but it was so hot I only finished half of it because my mouth was on fire. Maybe you could give people a heads up because it's spicy af. Our server barely came around and we had to seek him out and ask other servers to have him come over. There were not many tables full so it didn't appear to be busy so I don't know why the service was so poor. When our sever took away full drinks and full bowls that's the perfect time to ask if everything was ok it seemed like he didn't really care. read more

Made us stand there for 10 minutes, then took us to a counter area with barstools that faced the street and said we could order drinks and apps while we wait for our table. Absolutely love Mezcal! I've been here a few times and had an incredible experience each time. The vibe is so fun and I love all of the vibrant murals and decor. Service is excellent and we always have the wait staff and owner checking in on us to see if we need anything. Food is delicious and portions are great. The inside is kind of small but it is decorated nicely. I loved the music! I feel like most Mexican restaurants play mariachi music but this place had on Spanish pop music and I was here for it. All of us wanted to dance. I ordered a California burrito, a margarita, and chips and salsa and queso. I enjoyed all of it. My friends had different types of tacos and they all enjoyed their food- especially my friend that got the fish tacos. She thought they were phenomenal. They all got drinks that they enjoyed. The serving size for the pina colada was massive and tasted delicious like an icy coconut ice cream. I ordered the Burria quesadilla and it was delicious. Charged mandatory gratuity for a $85 bill while I sat at the bar. Then argued with my friend. THEIR POLICY on the receipt States "Mandatory 20% gratuity added for parties 6+ or a bill over $100. " **The manager stated that our SEPERATE bar bills totaled over $100. One of his rude comments were "you just don't want to tip." *** I'm very disappointed after more than 6mos of weekly/biweekly patronage. I can't say enough about this place. Stumbled in on a Tuesday and have been back 3 times this week. I've had the birria, pastor, and asada so for. All are stellar.
