Over the next week I received two additional calls from New Tampa family dental asking for my insurance information because they kept failing to enter it into the computer correctly. Then a few days before my appointment I received a health questionnaire that I had to complete through my cell phone. At first this seemed like a typical dental questionnaire about allergies and previous surgeries. However, I was required to enter my insurance information a fourth time, upload pictures of my driver's license, and answer roughly 50 to 100 questions about my health history. On the day of the appointment I was asked to arrive 15 minutes early since I was a new patient. I was informed after arriving that showing up 15 minutes early was not necessary since I had already completed the excessively long health questionnaire. I then proceeded to wait in the waiting room for 20 minutes before being called back. Once the cleaning began I was informed that I would need to complete mandatory extra services that were not covered by insurance. When I questioned why these extra services were mandatory I was never provided with an adequate explanation. I have never had a cavity and dental cleanings have always been run-of-the-mill for me. When I refused to accept the extra services New Tampa family dental refused to treat me. I ended up walking out of my appointment without completing my routine cleaning. A few weeks later I went to a different dentist in Wesley Chapel and was faced with none of these mandatory extra services and received compliments on my oral hygiene. New Tampa family dental was an outlier in every interaction I had with them, and they were not an outlier in a positive direction.

I hope you all are able to take into consideration why I am choosing to leave this practice and strive to do better. I NEVER write reviews or send complaints; I usually just move on from situations but this time I felt I had to say something. I am so upset about my experience here. The office itself is beautiful and clean and some of the staff (front desk/some hygienists) are wonderful, however the rest, not so much. Multiple times I have been coerced into immediate procedures such as cavity fillings, sealings, wisdom teeth removals and fluoride. When I explained that I did not want to get fluoride due to it costing money, I was told to get it instead of getting my nails done next time. It is not that simple for some people. The hygienist doesn't know me personally and doesn't know my financial situation or if I even pay for my nails! Paying for the fluoride treatment could be the difference between eating or not eating some days because not everyone has money to blow, and fear mongering your clients and forcing them into procedures and processes they don't want is VERY off putting. Furthermore, Dr. Helen is extremely unempathetic, cold and does not care about the wellbeing of clients. The day my wisdom teeth were removed I was not only coerced to get them out but she was horrible. I explained that my father was dying in hospice care and I wasn't comfortable getting a procedure done that day and she kept pushing me and pushing me until I said yes. I explained that I had anxiety over the whole situation and did not like the laughing gas which may cause me anxiety and so I was crying. The hygienist who helped me that day was amazing and did everything in her power to try and keep me calm but as soon as Dr. Helen came in, she expressed how annoyed she was with the hygienist for helping me and how annoyed she was with me for being anxious and told me "figure it out you need to just calm down". I understand that my anxiety in the moment is no one's responsibility, however it wouldn't hurt to show a little compassion! When I expressed that I had issues with dental hygiene due to mental health issues and asked for advice on how to better my oral health she told me "well you can't do that you have to just take care of your teeth." Extremely unhelpful and cold! She could have easily taken 30 seconds to recommend products to me or help me with my oral health since she is a dentist after all. My most recent visit was horrendous. Again, the hygienist was coercing and filling me with fear to force me to get my cavities filled right then and there, get a tooth sealed AND get fluoride. Once I finally relented and said yes and we began the procedure, it went downhill from there. When they were cleaning my teeth, it hurt and my gum on my back right lower mouth was damaged and is STILL inflamed. While Dr. Helen was filling my cavities; she chipped a piece of the back of my upper right tooth! Thankfully it is on the back of my tooth so it is not visible but it's still ridiculous. I hope this review is shared with the staff and taken into consideration so you all can improve for future reference. This has been a horrible dental experience and I hope you guys can make a change to stop forcing clients into things that they do not want to do or cannot afford and that the doctor and some of the staff can begin showing compassion and empathy.

I love their text and email system for appointment reminders. They are always very punctual and take you back for your appointment at the scheduled time. My hygienist Larissa does a wonderful job and keeps me comfortable during my cleanings. I highly recommend Dr. Britten and his staff, they make going to the dentist not so bad.

I've had the same night guard for 20 years and it recently got loose so I thought perhaps that was causing the pain. Got fitted for a new night guard. The dental assistant had some attitude, and it seemed she was talking down to her other coworkers. Since I was a new patient, the dentist asked that I transfer over the x-rays I had done at my former dentist. She said her office could help with that. After a few unnecessary calls and mails from her office, they finally were able to obtain my x-rays. Honestly, would have been easier if I had handled this request myself..... The night guard did not help my tooth pain, so I went into the office again. The dentist said I had gum erosion and needed to have my tooth bonded. I've never had a single tooth problem so I had no idea what this meant and should have done my research before agreeing to the procedure. Dentist didn't tell me how to care for myself after the procedure. I'm type A so looked up what I needed to be done for the next 48 hours. After two weeks I still was having pain from the procedure on top of the normal tooth pain I already was having. Was told by the dentist sometimes teeth are just sensitive, and nothing was wrong. I also noticed after my procedure that my new night guard didn't fit anymore. I told the dentist about this, and she said that isn't normal which come to find out it is TOTALLY normal and should have been mentioned to me before I did the procedure. I questioned if doing the bonding for my tooth was really necessary and was blown off and told to come back in a week if I was still in pain. Still was in pain so went back into the office again. Was told I would be meeting with a different dentist this time and they would be taking over my case....... She suggested that I go to an endodontist to see if I would need a root canal. We did a fitting again to correct my new mouth guard. Went to the Endodontist and he said my tooth was fine. Two weeks went by, and I still haven't heard back from the office that my night guard was ready. I called the office and was told they were going to look into in and call me back. The next day I still hadn't gotten a call so I called again. The person I spoke with story wasn't matching and just sounded that they were trying to cover up for the fact that they forgot about my night guard. I finally went in for a second fitting. Guard was still a bit off. By this point I'm over this whole experience and cancelled my next cleaning because I won't be doing business with this place every again.

My wife recently went to the practice, which apparently has all new physicians and hygienists because the other ones left, and was told that she had two cavities and needed them addressed immediately which she did not do because she has never had a cavity in her 39 years. I barely left the house because I felt like my smile scared the neighbors and when I had to talk to people I always covered my mouth. Dr Kasey and team were compassionate, understanding, and so helpful. Every step of the treatment plan, including charges, was explained up front so there were no surprises. I was asked frequently during appointments if I needed anything, right down to a blanket and the remote for the ceiling-mounted tv. The staff here really treats you like family. After a smile makeover, I feel like a completely different person. My teeth are beautiful and I can finally feel comfortable talking to people again.
