Cheesesteaks are for real here. Online ordering was clear and simple, allowing you to build the sandwich from the ground up. We ordered a plain cheesesteak with American cheese and another with onions, hot and sweet peppers, and provolone. We arrived at the market a few minutes early which gave us enough time to impulse buy chips and drinks. The space was clean and well-organized. The app dinged to let us know our order was ready well before the 20 minute lead time. The kids working there were attentive and friendly. Now for the food: the meat was high quality and tender, with no stringiness. The cheese to meat ratio was perfect, and the peppers added a bright contrast to the savoriness of the meat and onions. The roll was fresh, seeded with a crisp crust and soft interior. Yum. We will definitely be back to this gem in OCNJ! read more

I love that they offer the hoagie in a bowl ("naked") option. The Santa Fe turkey and Swiss were very tasty and high quality. It was also dressed well with my choices of oil, vinegar, and Cajun Mayo. I would up this to 5 stars if they chopped the turkey, cheese, and toppings! My to-go bag also did not have utensils or napkins. I assume I I could have picked them up in another section of the shop. However, it was my first time there and I figured that the person that handed me my order would have told me to pick up a fork and napkins in so and so location in the shop if needed. Made for a messy eating adventure on the beach but I pride myself on being savvy and made it work! read more

As others have said, this delightful little place offers a bunch of sundries and some delicious sandwiches. Had to get the sandwich made with a pickle instead of a bun, and it did not disappoint. Please see attached photo for a sense of its massive girth. Eating that bad boy took some work, but totally worth it. I ended up just sort of rubbing it all over my face, so get the extra napkins if you're going to brave it! read more

Solid deli for the Jersey shore area. They also offer pickle sandwiches instead of bread which is cool. Sandwiches are a good size and tasty. They get really busy so waits can be long/service slow but you can also call in your order to avoid that! We first discovered Blitz's when we used to pack 13 people into a 3 bedroom rental and needed to feed all of the hungry mouths. Back then it was a godsend to get a few Blitz Buckets of Fried Chicken. We could reduce those hot buckets in minutes to a pile of clean bones! All of the young kids would be happy with Blitz for dinner. Now the kids are grown anf it's three of us looking for sandwiches at Blitz's. And by sandwiches I don't mean wimpy Subs. I mean fresh meat-laden chunks with toppings sandwiches. Blitz's is the best place to grab a sandwich, and much more, before your beach trip! The store, on top of their amazing deli, has everything you could need! Chips, drinks, snacks, shirts, and other random stuff! I always stop in here before I head down to the beach. The staff is mostly very young and always generous! A lot I guess changes in two years. Got the columella and it was a complete 180 from my previous review. They forgot the roasted red peppers and ordering online doesnt give the option to add Mayo so I put it in the additional notes section, but the Mayo was also forgotten. We ordered another sandwich with an additional note which was followed so I don't know why mine wasn't read. Also it seemed less full than before. read more

We used Blitz's at 21st and Asbury several times because it was walking distance from our rental property. We came to rely on them for take out on several occasions. Cheesesteaks, hoagies, salads were always freshly prepared and delicious. Staff was friendly and helpful. read more

The employee at the register was rude, and rolled her eyes at my teenage sister who handed her a crumpled bill. Also did not like the lack of price transparency. There were no prices listed for the ice cream, so I bought a pint that I normally would have passed on had I seen the price. This market is convenient, and has a nice selection, but after going here a few times, my family has started to go to the Wawa instead because of the bad service here. read more

I've been going to Blitz's since I was born basically and it is without a doubt my favorite sandwich spot on the Jersey Shore. Whether it's a hoagie, buffalo chicken cheesesteak, pork roll egg and cheese, or a pickle hoagie (my new fave the past couple of years!!) it's always reliably delicious. I recommend ordering ahead by calling or online so you can just pop in when your food is ready. read more

Ordered dinner from Blitz's on our first night in Ocean City. What a disappointment!!!!!! The bucket of fried shrimp was inedible. They were fried beyond recognition. I am lucky that I did not break a tooth, not exaggerating. An order of chicken tenders were basically hard fried breadcrumbs with barely a hint of chicken inside. The meatball parm was ok if you like your meatballs to be gray when bit into. The other two orders were ok. Fries were good but overall 100% waste of money. we were left with empty stomachs and empty wallet. read more

This morning I tried Blitz's breakfast sandwich (bacon, egg and cheese) and it was delicious. The quality was like when your mom or dad makes breakfast- homey and tasty and not artificial like McDonald's or Wawa. I also tried the pumpkin spice coffee and it's all thumbs up from me. This place is a good-old, family-run kitchen and store and we should all support mom and pop places like this because they add so much character to our Ocean City . read more

We waited about 50 minutes for 3 cold sandwiches and some fries. There was another girl who was also waiting for one sandwich for 30 minutes. The lady at the front told us it was almost out, we waited 20 minutes more and eventually i told them we need to leave and the food has been taking forever. Eventually after around 50 minutes we got the food being the only ones left in there, we at least got the French fries that were sitting for 10 minutes on the shelf for free. Food was good, not worth almost an hour wait but last year the food was quick and great, not sure if there is new workers but it was much more efficient last year. read more

When I think about the summers in Ocean City, Blitz's market on 21st and 34th come to my mind. I have grown up going to 21st Blitz's market. The people there have been amazing and so respectful to me even when I was very young. You can really tell all the employees care about the customers and the food they make. After making a once around in this area to see what they had to offer I came back to this establishment to dine for the evening. Upon entry I was greeted warmly and timely. I was immediately led to an actual table and had menu in hand. This was nice, just because I am dining alone doesn't mean I want to sit at a bar and feel separated from the rest of the building. I had some time to look over the menu before the server arrived. I made it simple for him as I already knew exactly what I wanted, from drink to appetizer to entree. I just stayed with water for the meal as I wasn't in the mood for anything sweet. For my appetizer I went with the Soft Pretzel and the entree was the Hangover. The Soft Pretzel is basically your jumbo pretzel. This comes served with honey mustard and cheese sauce for dipping. When this came out on the hook, it was piping hot and had the right amount of pretzel salt. This thing is massive and could easily serve as a meal for one. I picked at it until my burger came out. I also ended up taking a lot of this back to my room for snacking later in the evening. When my burger showed up I was not disappointed. As a side note, burgers are served with fries, but you can upgrade the side if you like. But at $3 for a small upgrade, no thank you, a different type of potato or a salad doesn't equal that much money. That is just my opinion. Off my soapbox now, let's discuss the burger. The Hangover is typically an 8 oz. patty freshly ground in house everyday. You can substitute for a turkey burger, black bean burger, or grilled chicken at no charge, but have to pay for a side upgrade...I digress. This particular burger is topped with an over easy egg, bacon and American cheese. More of a breakfast burger than a hangover cure to me. This thing was one of the best patty to bun ratio burgers I have ever had. I was pleasantly surprised that the patty actually looked a bit bigger than the bun. When you pop the yolk of the egg, that just adds a bit more flavor to the burger. Perfectly cooked to your liking, the bacon was crispy, they egg made it messy and the cheese held it all together. The fries were a perfect match to this, even though they make it seem like they are the basic side to this dish. If you are a yolk person, the fries are a great vessel to get any that may have dropped to the plate. I made sure to finish this and try to look like I wasn't shoving it my mouth at the same time. It was delicious. My server was excellent. Checked on me the appropriate amount of times. Was attentive to my needs and I didn't feel rushed in my dining experience. Much better than other places.

We have been visiting Varsity Inn for nearly 25 years now and have always enjoyed it…read more We visited a couple days ago, and food and service was very good, as usual. Wjat was upsetting is that we noticed they are now adding hidden costs to your meal. I had a steak sandwich with onions and peppers. They charged me $2 for onions and $2 for peppers, adding an extra $4 for the meal. The added cost was not indicated on the menu, nor did the server disclose it. Another person changed out their two slices of standard toast for a slice of whole grain. That was a $1 added charge. Visitors should check their bills closesly since Varsity Inn seems to now want to add a charge for any little thing. The following night, I had a hamburger at another restaurant, and there was not an added charge for onion. Looks like we'll go elsewhere so we don't get hit with added, hidden charges.

Overall the price didn't justify the roll and just fries. The lobster roll itself did taste good though and the fries were good, but I was hoping for the rice and salad as an option. The sesame mayo that came with it was really good. My wife had the Mahi Mahi melt that also came with fries. She got full on the fries and half of the sandwich so I was able to try the other half. A good amount of fish, but unfortunately was kind of dry. There wasn't much cheese on it so I wouldn't call it a melt. I also don't remember the bread being toasted. Overall, the lack of good sides, portion, price, and taste of the melt led me to the 3 star review.
