I got my hair and makeup done here for family photos. My hair was ok but my makeup was incredible!!! My makeup was the best I've had done in Jacksonville. I highly recommend getting your makeup done here. Regarding my hair, I was not sure how to best describe what I wanted my hair to look like. I had an image in my head but no image to reference. I feel that was my fault & not so much the hair stylist. However, I saw someone else get their hair done and it looked gorgeous. I had an absolutely wonderful experience at Blo Blow Dry Bar. Rebecca took care of me during my hair and makeup appointment for my bridal shower. She was very professional and accommodating throughout the whole experience and made me feel very comfortable and at ease. She started off with an initial phone consultation the day before to get an idea of what I wanted and asked for inspo pics. I really appreciated that! On the day of, she did an amazing job blowing out my hair, curling it, braiding it (exactly like my inspo pic) and placing my tiara. She really took her time and ensured it was perfect! I loved how it turned out! She did an excellent job with my makeup as well. Since I wear a hijab (headscarf), I preferred a more private area to get ready. Heather (the owner) very graciously offered some space in their back room, which I gladly took her up on once the main blow dry bar area started filling up. I saw Abigail for hair and she did a great job understanding that I'm not native to the area so I wasn't sure how my hair would hold up with humidity. She explained she'd do right curls so they'd have time to fall until the wedding I was in she did the exact updo I wanted and even made adjustment as I have A LOT of fine hair. My make up artist on the other hand did horrible and I can't believe I paid money for this. I already have lash extensions and tinted brows. I asked for neutral eyeshadow and a very very sharp, crisp wing that was longer than normal. Showed her multiple reference pictures, even of my own wing at my wedding. Even after she fixed it. It was atrocious but I didn't have time to wait for her to be an actual make up artist. No primer used so within minutes of being outside, my eyeliner was already smeared onto my upper lid. Such an amazing experience! I walked in and it was so casual and calm! I immediately felt comfortable. Shannon was helping me with my hair and matching me for clip in hair extensions! I visited here while in Jacksonville for a business trip. Arriving here after a flight was an amazing, relaxing experience. The salon is in a convenient area and the staff was polite, professional, fun and personable. I've had blow outs in every major city but this was the best I've ever received. My blowout still looked fresh after 4 days even with the Florida humidity in August. I have very thick hair and my stylist was also very fast. I've had blowouts take 1.5 to 2 hours but she was done in 45 minutes. I wish I remember her name but she was from Vegas. They also have a special for $30 Monday -Wednesday. I attempted to call multiple times with no answer. I understand that there was a late cancellation notice of $25 per their website policy; however, they charged me $49!!!!!! I attempted to speak to someone at the salon and they tried telling me that since I was no show (though I attempted to call) that they were charging me for the service. WHERE IS THAT IN THEIR POLICY? It's clearly stated on their website that it is a $25 charge. I would understand if that is what I was charged for but it wasn't. They're making things up as they go.... or did someone there take the liberty in gifting someone with my credit card in hopes that I wouldn't notice?! Got my first blow out on Saturday afternoon at Blo. I had a great first experience! My hair looked amazing and I got so many compliments on it. Just a couple of things that didn't make this review 5-stars: I scheduled a blow out and head massage but only got the blow out so they missed out on additional revenue. My friend's hair didn't turn out the way she asked and had to straighten parts at home after. She asked the lady who did her hair to fix it but she said it would fall later how she wanted (it didn't). And they don't off champagne at this location. You can bring your own wine or champagne but they don't tell you this before arriving. Most Blo franchises have champagne and offer it when you walk in the door. Owner of the salon cancelled my child's appointment for a gala 1 week before the event because she wanted to close the salon early. This was after making an appointment a month in advance, being called by the salon to reschedule to a better stylist for my daughters formal braid, and then being called a week before the event to be told that the owner decided to close the salon early, and by doing that pretty much said who cares about already booked clients. Now I have an upset 9 year old that I need to remake plans for so she can attend her event looking like a princess. What a gem! Very nice and courteous staff and THEY CAN BLOW DRY any type of hair. My daughter had an appointment with another place that canceled on her less than 24 hrs prior to the appointment. She had her senior picture session scheduled so I needed a back up ASAP! What made things more challenging was that my daughters hair is NOT easy to handle (she is mixed and has a beautiful very curly and thick hair). Most places we've used before would take between 2-4 hours to get her hair straightened. Not only did they accommodate a last minute weekend appointment, but Stephanie was phenomenal! Informed reception and my stylist I wanted curls that would last for days while I would be out of town, I wanted my hair done professionally so I knew i wouldn't have to worry about it. My very short hair typically holds curls well, at least for 2-3 days. I was in and out in 40 minutes, my total with tip came to around $70 and my hair has gone COMPLETELY flat in less than one day. I wanted to get hair and makeup done for some grad photos and the experience wasn't great. Both services started late. It took 2.5 hours for simple hair and makeup. I wanted curls and got barely there curls, someone else graciously recurled my hair after my makeup was finished but apparently didn't use any hairspray, my hair was completely straight once I got home 20 minutes later. As for my makeup, I wanted something very natural as I don't typically wear a lot of makeup. Was thinking some simple brown eyeshadow - someone how ended up with what looked like orange eyeshadow all the way to my browbone. Everyone was nice, but just didn't seem like they took the effort to do what you asked. Granted my services were discounted without me even asking due to everything being so backed up and taking so long, but I would have had no problem paying full price if I was happy with the result as I understand things can run behind schedule. Made an appointment to get my hair styled and blown out. They changed my appointment three times, never put down I have a lot of hair when I mentioned it to them to do. I was rushed through my appointment and added "luxury" to my shampooing costing me more money without even asking or telling me it's more money. During the blowout I could feel my head burning from then keeping the blower in one place and just felt like I was a problem because they never told the stylist I have thick hair. This was my first time splurging on a blow-out. The receptionist was incredibly friendly and helpful. She helped me with cosmetics purchases and handled the washing of my hair when my appointment was twenty minutes behind schedule. My reason for giving three stars is based on my experience with my stylist. She was friendly enough, but didn't hide very well that she was obviously over it. She didn't introduce herself, but started out convo expressing relief immediately at my "fine hair," and complained about her previous clients who overwhelmed her. When I asked for her feedback on what she thought would look good with what I was wearing, she gave me an "up to you" response, and finally asked her peer to give an opinion. Overall, she did what I requested, my hair stayed in place all night - but for a minimum of $45 pre-tip for 30 minutes- experience was lack-luster, and felt more like a walk-in clinic appt than a "treat yo self" expense. I would go back, but specifically request another stylist. read more
