I really like this place as a business concept. And I think many other people do too. Some people use this as a way to just engage in self-care while others like me use it to get ready for a special occasion. This is my second time ever going to this facility or even one like it. The first time I ever came here was many many years ago when it first opened - I did not have the best experience. However, I just returned last month and it was great. I was able to book an appointment same day on a Saturday. I don't think that I would expect that or even recommend doing that, but I just happened to look out for an event. I was going to later that evening. It was nice to have my hair washed, blow dried, and styled for me. It felt like a nice treat, it got done quickly, and I did not have to stress about it. I do think it is a little pricey, and it is not something that I could afford to do on a regular basis. I think that my hair looks 1 million times better than if I could ever do it myself, which is why I came here, but for girls who are skilled at doing their own hair with curling irons, etc. this would probably not be much better than that. But that is just my opinion. At the same time it's not like I got some updo. I just had them braid and curl my hair. Overall, a good experience. It was nice to see girls and women of all ages kind of bonding over a similar experience. I literally had like a six-year-old girl next to me and then maybe an 80-year-old woman behind me. I sent my 93yo mother here to get her hair and makeup done for my son's wedding. Unfortunately I couldn't be there with her. They wouldn't listed to what she wanted. She has short hair and wanted some volume and curl. They blew her hair out straight and were done with her. After she asked again for some volume they threw a few waves in it. They did her make-up and barely put any eye makeup because they said she had "hooded eyes" and it would make them look worse. Now, if you call yourself a makeup artist you know how to work with hooded eyes. She wanted to show up in the photos. Sometimes older women need to feel beautiful like everyone else. If you are going to charge her $200 for a hurry up job don't advertise for wedding hair and makeup! I feel she was taken advantage of BIG TIME. It ruined the day she was looking so forward to. I booked on ClassPass - I do have extensions and was fully aware I'd likely have to pay extra (I am new to CHS and had a membership for 18 months and was used to this) 2. I showed up 20 minutes early to address that I had extensions and waited because I knew ClassPass did not let me specifry 3. The stylist and I went over my look, washed and were 75% through the blow dry when the manager came over and whispered in her ear, a few moments later she said that I would not be able to get my hair styled. 4. Bummed, but alright. 5. I am leaving and STILL HAD TO PAY THE EXTRA MONEY - 1. My appt was the allotted 45 minute time (so I did NOT go over per the extension policy) AND NO style was put in my hair. 6. I was SHOOK I still had to pay. I inquired multiple times to my stylist (who was sweet) that I would like a membership each month and I think by business is better served elsewhere. 7. I thought 1 of 2 things would have happened - they would have not charged me for NOTHING extra (my hair is flat and no style) or offered a time that I could come back in for the style - either would have been fine for me. read more

A total five star experience ... I noted a mention in the Business section of the Post and Courier two weeks ago that Wax in the City and Blo Blow Dry Bar was scheduled to open on Houston Northcutt (a few door down from Whole Foods Market) ... and that during the Grand Opening Week would be offering $25 Blow-outs (regularly $40) on their signature styles. I checked out their Facebook and web pages, Yelp reviews in other cities and decided to check them out. The business model is simple ... wash and Blowdry among seven signature styles ... no color, no cut. This worked for me! While walk-ins would be welcome, I wanted to assure an appointment during this fabulous promotion and was pleased that I could make an appointment online. Within two minutes, I received a text confirmation and I was good to go. I was warmly greeted at check-in, offered water and had an opportunity to chat with Jeremy, the owner of both businesses. I couldn't help but notice that every inch of space is well used ... filled with many stations ... and an ample number of wash basins. Kristie, my kick-butt, stylist (and manager) was ready for me at the appointed time. We discussed the style (simple bob) and my hair type ... thick, coarse, dry ... and my regime ... which I sheepishly admitted total reliance on frizz control products and dependency (or rather, at the mercy and availability) on two stylists, who knew how to work with my hair. She explained the products she would be using from Unite ... all good ... and we proceeded back to the wash basin. The chair was oh, so comfortable and I relaxed through two marvelous shampoos and a conditioning that had a fragrance reminiscent of Life Savers Butter Rum. We headed back to Kristie's station (yes, this chair was comfortable, too) and Kristie worked her magic. Throughout the blow-out, our conversation was lively and comfortable ... as if I had known her for years. (BTW, she has 20 years experience working with hair.) The time seemed to fly by and in 40 minutes, I was walking out the door. My hair not only looked fabulous but felt fabulous, too. A full line of Unite hair care products are available for purchase but I did not need anything today. I understand that styles with extensions are also available with a different price structure. I would imagine that anyone going to the Blo Bar is there for a special, happy event, yet nothing about visiting here was happy nor special! We booked well in advance for prom hair and makeup having read reviews and booking with specific people based on reviews. The salon was a overbooked and crazy when we arrived and the lady at the front desk (owner?) was unfriendly and annoyed when I asked how far behind they were running. When I asked why we weren't being seen by the person we booked with she told me the person wasn't even working that day and I shouldn't have been allowed to book with specific people. She was very aggressive in her tone and it made the experience unpleasant instead of fun and exciting like it should have been for my daughter. We were eventually seen about 15mins late, and Dorothy who styled my daughter's hair was lovely and did a great job. I will say, she was just about the only staff member with a smile on her face and we appreciated her very much. The staff here are miserable looking bunch and appear to be bored to tears! Had we had our own curler at home, I would have walked out, but with a short time frame, we had to see it through. While waiting, we were doing the math to see if we had time to run to Ulta and buy what we needed! There also seemed to be very little respect for timing. We managed to get out on time, but starting late when you have a very scheduled day (people to meet, photos, car booked etc.), is unprofessional. When we checked out, I was charged $15 more than I should have been. When I asked for the breakdown, I was told the make up was $15 more than listed on the website. When I pointed out that the website fee was $60 for a full face of make up and not $75, the front desk lady seemed annoyed and just kept telling me that that was what they always charged like this even mattered to me! The only item on their fee board in the shop WITHOUT a price was the full face make up, but on the website for Mount Pleasant it cleared stated $60 not $75. She then asked me to step aside so she could serve others because it would take her 15 minutes to refund me. It seemed like she wanted me to just accept her overcharge and leave. Again, we were on a schedule for prom and didn't have 15 minutes. She was unfriendly and unpleasant. We ended up having to leave. Eventually I got a text saying that she had refunded me the difference. The whole experience was very unpleasant. It was supposed to be a fun treat, but it turned into the complete opposite. I don't think this woman knows anything about service at all. She was abrasive and unpleasant and will not be getting my business in the future. I've been coming to Blo Blow Dry Bar for a few months now since I've moved here. I have had almost every girl in salon give me a wash/blow out. The salon is clean and the ladies are professional and pleasant. I think their unite products are great, but I'd love to see other options. I suffer from migraines and certain products and their incense bother me so when I ask the girls to use the products lightly they adhere to my request with compassion. I have my preference on who I get my hair done by now while I'm there. I give this this salon 4.5 stars due to my experience. I am pretty laid back, but in order for a business to improve I need to put some input in. I do think some of the girls need a little bit more experience with shampooing and blow outs. They barely apply pressure to scalp while shampooing and some don't properly know how to use a round brush and get that volume and flow during a blow out. I also get my hair braided each time. I have one person I will only go to for tighter braiding- because she's amazing, that's another area of work I think they could have more experience in as well so more employees are available to give the best results. If you're looking for a place to go for a perfect blow out in Charleston, this is the spot. My fiancé and I were visiting for the weekend from Greenville, NC (where there sadly is no Blo) and once I saw there was a Blo in town, I figured a good way to treat myself would be with a blow out. For $40, you get a full wash and your hair blown out to a particular style of your choice (you get to pick your look from a menu/book). This is the perfect set up for a bachelorette party, friends birthday, bridesmaids, etc. The space has 10 chairs and the owner, Jeremy, is a pleasure to talk to and seems very accommodating. I love supporting new businesses in the area and think this business is a home run. Great job. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Charleston! read more

Went to get a blow-dry style before my trip. I even brought my own products because my hair is on a specific regimen. The lady shampooed the ends of my hair & conditioned my roots???? that's backwards. She also put way too much product in my hair and used the products wrong as well. Once she was done blowdrying and curling she sprayed texture spray on one side of my head and the roots. My hair was disgustingly crunchy. Had to go home and rewash & style. I had really high hopes for this place and scheduled an appointment before i went out of town. The girl i had was super nice she just did not know how to handle my hair. i have thick long hair which she tugged and yanked, my entire head is so sore and slightly burned from the blow dryer. She knotted my hair in the back while blow drying it, i never get knots in my hair when i do it myself, ever. Then she curled it clearly rushing it looked horrible. the curls fell out as i walked. she also told me she was sick! as she is less than 10 inches away from my face, im so disappointed in this place. I decided to treat myself before going to a wedding and have my hair blown out. I showed the stylist a picture of what I wanted. She started drying my hair and I knew immediately that I was in trouble. She dried my hair like she was scared of touching my hair. We had had nice conversation before so I said something about it. She laughed and said she hears that all the time. It was clear at this point she had no idea what she was doing. I kept showing her the picture and finally I just sat back and let her finish because there was no fixing it. My hair looked like a football helmet. It had more life to it when I got there. I barely had time to leave there, run back to the hotel and jump in the shower to wash my hair and fix it. $100 lesson!!! Save your money!! read more

I was very disappointed with my experience at Blo on Sunday. I made an appointment to get my hair done for my engagement pictures. I chose Yolanda when I made an appointment after reading reviews. She was wonderful when I arrived and even let me show her a picture of my hair at wedding that I loved. She assured me she could do it! After she washed my hair, she asked if I could wait a few minutes while she helped fix a MOB's hair. I didn't mind at all. I was actually excited, I knew I had the best stylist if she was fixing other people's work! Well the owner then came over and had someone else start blowing out my hair. She was very nice, asked to see the picture, but just not the same level. After 1 hour and 15 minutes I kindly told her I had to officially go, after giving warnings through. They then nearly switched me back to Yolanda again, but then the owner again intervened and gave another client to her. The appointment was scheduled for 45 minutes and while I had never been to the Mount Pleasant location, I had been to their King street as well as other blo bar brands and it's always 45 minutes. It took over an hour just to dry my hair and I had the pictures scheduled so I had to stick to my timeline. I ended up leaving before jt was done. The girl (never did get her name) offered to try and fix it more but also knew we didn't have the time. It looked exactly as my hair does when I blew dried it, the curls had already falls/weren't enough/finished. She never did the half up/down from the picture. The worst part was, as I was checking out the owner who mingled throughout did not even ask how my appointment went, which I heard her ask 4 people prior to me. I let her know I had to leave before it was done. I paid and tipped as it was never the 2nd stylists fault. Overall, the owner for some reason prioritized everyone but me and it showed. I went home and had to borrow a friends curling iron to try and fix my hair while still trying to make it on time. I wouldn't return, waste of money. read more
