That morning I receive a voicemail that they cancelled me because they didn't have enough stylists. No accommodations were made for another time or place. I was left scrambling trying to find someplace to take me in last minute in a town I didn't know. I didn't pack any products or hairdryer to do it myself as I thought I would be set. I don't normally leave negative reviews, but what happened at Drybar Charleston was so shocking and humiliating that I feel obligated to warn others. I've been going to Drybar for over 10 years -- starting at the original West Hollywood location. I also travel frequently to Charleston for work and have always trusted this location with my hair. That trust ended during my most recent visit. After my hair was washed, the stylist suddenly stepped away, and three different employees came over to examine my head as if I were some kind of spectacle. I have extensions, and I disclosed that -- as the booking system requires -- but at no point does Drybar's app or policy state that clients with extensions will be refused service or treated differently. They told me my hair was "matted," which I explained I could easily brush out. I even suggested air-drying and curling the ends if needed. Instead of working with me, they walked away, came back, and informed me that they "could no longer do my hair." At this point, my hair was completely wet, and it was very cold outside. To make matters worse, they told me I wasn't even allowed to blow-dry my own hair because it was "unsanitary." I've never heard anything more ridiculous in a salon. No one offered help, empathy, or even basic discretion. I was left embarrassed, singled out, and humiliated in front of the entire room. The next day, I saw another stylist elsewhere who confirmed my hair was not nearly as bad as they claimed. The staff kept blaming "new ownership" and "new policies," yet none of these supposed policies are posted anywhere on the Drybar website or app. If this is truly how they treat customers under new ownership, it's a major red flag. I walked out feeling deeply embarrassed and disrespected. After over a decade of loyalty to Drybar -- in multiple cities -- I will never return to any location again. Good service! We had appointments for a mother-daughter Sunday afternoon. It's quite a treat to have someone else thoroughly wash your hair, massage your scalp, and blow dry it to perfection. I have very thick, coarse hair that curls so easily. I opted for the smooth and straight, with a bit of bounce to it. My service was great. Start finish in one hour, an impossible feat if I tried to do it on my own at home. My daughter's service took quite a bit longer. There was a bit of an awkward moment when the next group of 3 ladies arrived for their appointment and they were one stylist short of starting together. I'm grateful the stylist finished my daughter's hair before switching to the next group, and never made us feel rushed. Beverages were offered, a very nice touch. The salon itself is in a very convenient location near the Hyatt hotel on King street. There's a parking garage right there too, so convenient if you don't want to spend time looking for a street parking spot. They don't really talk much but that was fine with me. They do play movies with closed caption. I believe they have drinks but I was never offered one. I have been to Dry Bar locations all over the country for the last 10 years and this location was so disappointing. I was the first appointment of the day, they had called me earlier in the week asking me to make it later and I shared I made this appointment months prior because I was on a tight timeline. I arrive and the stylist isn't there and says she is in traffic. The front desk is calling her and texting and she said I will be there soon. She shows up about a half hour late and acts like it is not big deal. No apology, nothing. I told her we needed to hurry up. As I am sitting there, the front desk tells me I won't have to pay for my blow out. It was a kind gesture and honestly it made me calm down because I was getting upset as this was the beginning of my bachelorette weekend. The blow out takes longer than any other appointment I have had at a Dry Bar but at this point I am stuck in the chair. I go to check out and the front desk tells me she actually can only offer me 50% off now and is that ok. It was so uncomfortable as clients are sitting there staring. I felt so caught off guard since she told me something different earlier that I didn't even ask for. All this to be said, it furthered ruined my experience since I was told one thing and they charged another. On top of this, I tried emailing the manager multiple times with no reply. A visit to Drybar is one of my favorite forms of self-care. My mother-in-law and I made appointments at this location on a recent trip to the Charleston area, and we had a great experience! The store itself was a bit hard to find by car - maybe a hanging sign would do them well? We finally noticed it after driving up and down the street a few times. We parked in the garage directly behind Drybar, which seems to belong to the nearby Hyatt House. Parking was inexpensive - especially for the area. We were immediately seated for our appointments upon checking in. We both spent some time flipping through the stylebook, and my mother-in-law was particularly excited since this was her first visit to a Drybar. The Scalp Massage is absolutely worth the upcharge, and I'll add it on every time I come in for a blowout in the future. Both of our blowouts were beautiful - and our appointments took about an hour all said and done. I asked my stylist to tweak my bangs after she gave me an initial look (they really do have a mind of their own) and she was extremely helpful in accommodating my request. I have to say that one of the best parts about a blowout is how long it lasts. Even with the infamous South Carolina humidity, my hair remained fabulous for more than 3 days. I'm definitely considering a Barfly membership if/when I ever live somewhere that has a location close by. read more

I had a dry style yesterday and a shampoo and style booked for Thursday. I got every 7am I could because I am in town on business. I would have went every day if I could bc honestly DryBars don't usually last unless they use a straight iron. Most of their stylists don't. My dry style took 45 min FYI. Nice girl looked good. I am a double bar fly member and have been coming to this location for years. I've always had great experiences and truly love all of the stylists I've worked with. However, I will now be cancelling my membership due to what I would consider one of the most unprofessional experiences I've ever had to endure. Yesterday, I encountered significant difficulty with a receptionist at your front desk, who mentioned she had recently transferred from Nashville. Her demeanor was unexpectedly rude, brash, and unprofessional. I was late by a few minutes due to traffic, which I communicated via phone. Despite this, I was informed that I would only receive a dry style due to a policy "I agreed to and signed" though this was not consistent with my previous experiences or the information available on your app. I have only been told if you are more than 15 minutes late, your appointment is canceled and you are charged (I was 11 minutes late). When I attempted to discuss this with her, she was dismissive, interrupted me and accused me of attacking her, despite my calm and respectful approach. This interaction, coupled with her lack of courtesy, has led me to feel uncomfortable returning to this location. I value exceptional customer service, and more importantly, kindness, which I did not receive in this instance. I suggest that the management consider addressing this issue to ensure that future customers receive the high standard of service that DryBar is known for. read more

When washing my hair she did not get the underneath at all. The bar is extremely messy. There is barely enough space to put your bag or your drink down on. I went to drybar about 1-2 times a month for a handful of months after getting the barfly membership. Every time I went there was confusion about my membership in which I had to spend about 20 minutes talking with customer service. After each service I was reassured that they would fix the issue but ultimately it was never fixed and I decided to cancel my membership as it was not worth the hassle. I did however really enjoyed the service the drybar provided. I found the price reasonable and was always happy with my hair as the stylists did a great job. Additionally the interior of the store is decorated very nicely and I was always offered a drink with the service. Without the stress from the customer service side I would have continued to be a client. Unfortunately the relaxation that the service provided was reversed from the stress dealing with customer service. Ultimately I wouldn't recommend coming here due to that poor customer service. read more

I gifted my bridesmaids with a blowout before the ceremony and thought they could use this as a spa/relaxed start to the busy day ahead. A few things: - we put in the notes our appointments were for a wedding today - I've always used Drybar and have never had an issue in other locations - the offer was for a "discount" on Monday, after trying to cancel just a few hours before the appointment - we are traveling and brought no hair care as we thought we were getting blowouts. This was the worst "updo" experience I've ever had. This appointment was a practice run for "Mother of the Groom" wedding updo in a few weeks. I showed the stylist the pictures I wanted to emulate and after 1 hour and 20 minutes, I left extremely disappointed. I absolutely cancelled my day of wedding appointment. I was told all stylist have the same level of expertise - If that is the case no one there can do an updo. I asked for big hair pooped in the front a a classic French twist in the back. She had no idea how to do a classic twist and I left with my hair flat to me head in the front. I have PLENTY of healthy hair for this style. They told me I needed extensions to get the poof in the front. No way - it's been done before and in a much shorter time frame. I would not recommend. The staff was super pleasant and got me in right at my appointment time. My stylist was so sweet and was very intentional in asking what exactly I aned my hair to look like. I sipped a glass of champagne while I relaxed and got my hair done. I have naturally somewhat curly and frizzy hair and curtain bangs. I walked out with perfect loose sleek waves exactly what I asked for. They lasted all night and even into the next day until I got in the pool. Drybar Charleston was my first experience with the Drybar trend, and I left unimpressed and pretty disappointed. Four of us checked in for our afternoon appointments. Despite the arrangements being made weeks in advance, three of us had to wait about 20 minutes to see a stylist. Meanwhile, the other two were taken right away but seated far away from each other. This was the first disappointment. We thought we would be able to spend time together during my bachelorette party (something that was noted in the reservation), but instead, we were all seated apart. We all had different stylists and had mixed experiences with our stylists. My stylist told me she was going to 'try something new and experimental to see how it worked' and wrapped my hair in curlers but facing away from my scalp producing an unattractive cowlick that I don't typically have. When she took the curlers out, she goes, 'well my experiment definitely failed.' My friend had her scalped burned repeatedly by her stylist. When she asked her to lower the volume on her blow dryer or not go so close to her scalp, the stylist said to her, 'you said you wanted volume, this is how you get it.' My other friend got shampoo in her eyes when the stylist was washing her hair. While all of these issues were bad enough, the most frustrating part was that our blowouts didn't last. Forget lasting the night out; they didn't even last the Uber ride back to our Airbnb. Despite all of us having different hairstyles, textures, and lengths, we all had to re-curl our hair shortly after paying $45 to get it done. I wanted to love the Drybar experience. I wanted a chance to relax, unwind, and enjoy a little pampering with my girlfriends. But instead, we left $45 poorer, with flat hair, burnt scalps, sore eyes, and a bitter taste in our mouth. Never saw her sit still or look at her phone, she always found something to do. As a business owner I truly appreciate her initiative. My stylist did a an awesome job and she was quick! I was out in less than 45 min. She did a great scalp massage during my wash and warned me before the water temperature changed. Terrible customer experience. My group had an uber cancel on us which made us 7 minutes late. When I called to let them know that information, they told us that was fine and would let the stylist know. Then I got a call back from a very rude woman who then said if we weren't there in two minutes, she was going to cancel our appointment and charge us. Not sure what happened there. So we didn't make it in the two minutes, but one of the appointments was scheduled 15 minutes later so that person was able to get her hair done. As the rest of the group waited, we watched multiple stylists do nothing but sit around and even one stylist came up to reception and asked for more clients in front of us. The very rude recpetionist said that they were as booked as they could be so she couldn't have another client, while we sat there and they charged us. Not only did the recpetionist tell us we cancelled the appointment, but they made us watch as they had stylists available to do our hair.
