I have been going to Block Advisors to get my taxes done for about five years now and every time i leave care free. This year I had my taxes done by Christine Gomez, she was very sweet and helpful. she had the knowledge and patience to get me the most out of my return. she not only able to apply expenses from my education but went through and amended previous years that I had missed in past years. i recommend going to see her this year to get your taxes done if you would want peace of mind. read more

The level of service and follow through here is horrible. I had to contact them multiple times for status on my returns, they had software issues, and they delayed my filing multiple times. For one of my returns they had to file an extension due to their incompetence. The manager and Jim Register would say they'd call back and didn't. I'd have to go in to the location in person to get status. Several times my meetings were canceled at the last minute as they still weren't ready. Going to go to a real accounting firm in the future. I called Saturday morning (9/19) to schedule an appt. The call went unanswered and rolled to the call center (in Florida). The call center said the Capitola office was open until 4pm and I should get a call back by 2pm confirming the appt for Wednesday 9/23 at 2pm with John. I called the Capitola office at 3pm and the receptionist told me that the tax preparer who our appt was with was still w/a client. I explained that the call center said I would get a call confirming our appt with (for Wednesday 9/23 at 2pm). The Capitola receptionist then said the office manager (a male?) had not put out the schedule for (9/21-26). She then said that she wrote us in for the appt. And as I thanked her, she said the Capitola office is closed on Wednesdays. I said that I'm confused, do I have an appt or not? She said the manager would see the scheduled appt and call me. On Monday (9/21) morning I was called by the Capitola office manager (a male). He said that I had a drop off appt scheduled for Wednesday 9/23 at 2pm. I said that I scheduled us an in-person appt. He said those are not being done. I said that I misspoke and that it was a social distancing / in office / in person appt, and he replied "Oh, ok, good we are doing those." He then told me that he was going to call our tax preparer (John) and then call me back. Well, you guessed it that never happened. I just looked at the Capitola HR Bock website and the office is open by appt on Tuesday/Wednesday. Yet, I still do not know if we have an appt or not. Total management incompetence!! The only reason we travel to there is that John has prepared our taxes for decades. Later this morning (9/22) I called again...no answer...transferred to Florida... From there an email was sent to all email contacts for the Capitola office. About 10 minutes later my phone rang. It was the male office manager and he said, "So there is confusion about your appointment?" I replied, "I am not confused. You said you'd contact John, confirm our appointment, and call me back. You never called me back as promised. No one answered at your office, and we live about 1.5 hours away. Do we have an appointment tomorrow with John on Wednesday 9/23 at 2pm or not?" I had the great pleasure of working with Jim register on my taxes he was so good he felt I should come back with more tax deduction paper work that would help my business out so I did . In the process of getting all the paper work to Jim he got sick and didn't come back . I never got a call or ema explaining what would happen so I called . They told me some one would be taking over his work load and will call me back . All totally understandable but I never got a call back. I called and they made a note of who I was and told me they would call me back when It was my turn due to The high volume of customers Jim left behind i understood . 2 Weeks went by no call I call and I always get the same answer some one will Call you back . I just want some one to return my phone call or make an appointment with me to tell me what is going on with my taxes . I'm currently waiting for lissa Dias to call me back this time . My biggest issue with this office is that it is damn near impossible to get in touch with the person you need to talk with. They don't return phone calls and most of the time don't respond to an emails. I can't recommend them. read more

Jim Register is an amazing tax expert. he is extremely knowledgeable about complicated matters. I felt he truly cared about my taxes and getting me the best results. The manager Lisa Diaz also provided good customer service last year. I'm not sure if she's still there. read more

So far I'm not impressed at all. A little over a week ago I dropped off all of my tax documents they scanned them in and gave them back to me. A few days later someone called me and said they have everything except for... Etc. I said that's odd because they handed me back the stack of papers that you scanned in and it is all here. As I start to go over everything that I am looking at that they should have she starts finding it in different folders on the computer. This felt completely unorganized and made me uneasy. She assured me that she would input everything into the computer that night and give me a call the next day to set up a time to come in and go over everything. That was on Monday and by Thursday I still hadn't heard anything. I called back on Thursday and the woman on the phone was struggling once again to find my information so I gave her my number and asked her to please call me back that day when she had everything in front of her. Now it is Saturday, two days later and I have yet to hear anything. Tax day is less than two weeks away, and I hear absolutely nothing from the people that have my documents. It is completely unprofessional and up to this point I am not confident that my taxes will be done on time will be done correctly. read more

Never doing Business with them again. Like Jaime said once Jim Register became ill everything fell apart there. They never finalized my taxes and I've called 4 times and filed 2 complaints. Out of nowhere I got an email saying my state and federal returns have been accepted. Which was 3 weeks after I already paid them and I paid for my federal taxes owed. Still no state return. Nobody has called me back and my State return is now delinquent. They owe me my money back. They have put me behind on my payments on other bills and it's affecting my family. I wish I could give a negative star. read more

We are so incredibly disappointed with this HR office. We dropped off our taxes 6 weeks ago, still not completed. Initial appointment was easy to schedule and we had everything organized and ready to go. We felt confident with our Advisor after he shared he had 35+ years of experience, he even started to work on our taxes during our initial appointment. After two weeks I called just to check in to see how far our Advisor had gotten in the process. He did not answer so I left a voicemail along with a follow up email however got no response back. After 3 weeks, I reached out again, after not hearing back, so I called the office and spoke with Bill (Manager). Bill assured me our taxes were being worked on, that our Tax Advisor was just super busy, I trusted his response. After 5 weeks however I called again, Tax Advisor was in but was not able to take our call, really???? I was again assured by Bill (Manager) that our Advisor was almost done, it would only be a couple more days. Today, after six weeks our taxes still remained incomplete, I can't even tell you how far our Advisor was in the process as the HR App doesn't let you know that part of the process. Outside the first appointment and over the course of the full six weeks, we never received any additional communication from our Tax Advisor. No return calls or emails, we just kept being led on. So today after 6 weeks of waiting, we picked up all our paperwork and now will go to someone else. To say we are dissatisfied with with this particular HR Block would be an understatement. read more

They almost had me pay more in doing my taxes than my own father whom is married and claims 3 kids. I was fortunate enough to catch the mistake and get my money back. Not only that, they claimed I never paid my taxes and I did right in front of the desk clerk and I checked in with my bank as well. What was off was their system and they weren't even considering the fact that their system was malfunctioning. The manager waited 3 days to even consider calling their tech support meanwhile I was super uneasy and worried my taxes weren't going to be filed on time before the April deadline at the time. She has gently helped me become more proactive in my preparation each year which ultimately saves me time. I would say that this place is kind of expensive, but I find it to be quite worth it. I've had the worst experience with three different tax preparers at the H&R Block on 41st Ave. in Capitola California, it's been a horrible experience. The original lady who was super flaky and unprofessional told me to give her roughly 2 weeks after 9 weeks of her ignoring a voicemail I left for an update because it had been 5 weeks at this point and me having to stop in the office on two separate occasions and her telling me she'd get back to me on a certain day which she didn't do she left the office for the season and passed me off to another tax preparer without even letting me know also after getting nothing done. The other tax preparer was rude and gave me a rough quote of what I'd be paying, I'm actually paying $2,000 more than what she said. Then she passed me off to a third lady who was also rude and now it has been a total of 3 1/2 months and my taxes just got filed last week and the lady called me today and told me I could pick up my return also I'm paying about $3500 more than I did with the guy use last year I will never use H&R Block services again all three ladies especially the first one were super flaky and very unprofessional it's been a horrible experience all the way around I'm super disappointed read more

Horrible service, we had to find the exemption paperwork for covered California ourselves. They didn't tell us about it at all and were more than happy to charge us for it. They would not give us a rough estimate of how much it would cost and were extremely rude about everything. Everyone I know that has gone there has ended up owing. read more

Heads up! I've been using this company for a few years now. We have been audited and paid the $300+ to assure our filing was correct. When I called to get help I was told that they were not able to help. I asked why?? They said they weren't responsible for things that weren't reported. I asked what hadn't been reported? (Is that not their job..) Years later, I still don't know what wasn't reported, but I know that they were not only not helpful, but very HOSTILE. YOU CAN FIND AN ACCOUNTANT FOR A WAY BETTER RATE WITH LITTLE EFFORT ONLINE. I owe the IRS $8000 at his point. I'm a nurse and my husband is a carpenter, we both claim 0, have 3 kids ( one in college), rent and file standard deductions. Pretty sure monkeys could do a better job. read more

Loved coming here after Turbo tax gave me all sorts of trouble! I came in at 9 and made my appointment for 11am the same day and by the way (the ladies at the front desk are sooo sweet and made sure i got the earliest appointment possible) and when i got there John was readly available to me! He made the process so much easier and so much more personable i got approved within the session and i was on my way in less than an hour!
