We spoke with the owner who was very nice, friendly, and engaging. I ended up purchasing a hand carved and painted wooden wall decoration made by "Joe." I enjoyed shopping there. I'm glad I stopped in and got a chance to purchase a unique souvenir and meet a very pleasant lady.

The worst, most dishonest experience we ever had. We purchased an antique frame with a painting,…read moreand the frame needed a little bit of repair. The person who said she owned the place, Deborah, offered to repair the frame so long as we left the purchase price. We gave her $200, and she said she would call us in a week or two to let us know we could pick it up. Not getting a call, we called her, and she said she had been sick or something and would get right to it. We called again a couple of weeks later, and we got the same story. Then, we called again and she told us that she "forgot" we had purchased it and sold it to someone else (imagine that !!), and that she would immediately refund us. We awaited the check, and it turned out to be the proverbial "check is in the mail." We called (when she picked up it was "oh, I'm sorry, I forgot, I'll get it out right away"), we wrote, we even had a lawyer send her a certified letter. Bottom line - we got stiffed, never saw a penny in refund. Run for your life from this "business." We wonder how many others she sold it to . . . at least now we know what "friendly gifts" really means. Gifts from us!

I am in love with my new bracelets, but especially the Watch Hill (one of my favorite beach areas anyway) design, which looks like an open anchor bangle bracelet. The uniqueness of this piece is that it is light, versatile, casual, yet dressy, and stays open. I have never seen a design like this (most clasp or go all the way around), but this design has such a special flair to it. I am very impressed with this local company. The store itself is an experience! Walking along Thames, you are bound to encounter various shops featuring local and interesting products. I was long overdue for a treat, so I paid Amber a visit this past weekend & my heart grew three sizes that day. I heart Amber, her energy, her taste, her philosophies, her creativity, & her genuine, infectious laugh. Every bit of Nico Scout reflects Amber & every bit of Amber is reflected in Nico Scout. What a selection of products! When I don't know what to get someone as a gift, I go to Nico Scout. Amber has done the hard work of thinking & collecting & curating, so that I can just show up & get inspired. I always find something for someone, & it's usually something I never knew existed. Last year I found an incredible book in the store about Black American musicians & the conception of jazz. I didn't know this book existed & didn't know I needed it until I saw it. It came home with me, of course, & was a perfect gift for a good friend of mine. Books, clothes, knick knacks, art, pottery, plants, homewares, etc. There is so much goodness here, running the entire gamut of price. There's something for every person & every budget here. Camels bison and…read more llamas North Light Fibers is a working yarn and textile mini mill that also has a little retail store. It was founded in 2008 and sells unique and luxury yarns from such exotic critters like llamas, alpacas, bison, camels and yaks that are kept near the mill. They also sell fibers from silk, bamboo and other natural things. The retail store has some extremely beautiful hand woven items like shawls, mittens and sweaters but the main business seems to sell the actually yarns that they get from the creatures. A fascinating place to look around and experience a whole different world. The mill also has lots of classes on knitting, crocheting and other crafts and has the goal of increasing environmental awareness and knowledge of these rather esoteric arts. Keeping, caring for and then shearing the animals and then hand weaving something from the hair is indeed becoming a lost art. One of the great things about North Lights are the creatures. No cages or small and cramped pens, all the animals roam free in wide open areas. You can actually walk up to the llamas and alpacas and get to see them doing the things llamas enjoy doing. The critters are all seem very mellow, contented and use to people and the parents didn't seem to mind at all when I went right up to the baby to take a pic. North Light Fibers isn't the easiest place to find but it's a unique place for anyone interested in knitting, crafts, farming, or just a cool place to see some very cute llamas. They are doing something different, creative, imaginative and very cool. A place that is worth the effort to find and one that you won't soon forget.
