We were happy with the wine selection and a few variety of English biscuits. I also indulged my print newspaper fetish and picked up a daily Guardian (except Sunday) at any opportunity. Check out is either self-service or not. I preferred the counter near the post office. The store was large, clean, and pleasant.

I bought 5 different dishes. All were awful, all were trash. How the Picard franchise remains open is a complete mystery to me, so the French must also eat really crappy food when they don't want to prepare a proper fresh meal. ... Back to Budgen's. Market size is 75% smaller than a Tesco. Selection variety therefore is less numerous. Upside is that what is on display is usually pretty good quality and the prices are competitive especially with discounts on sale items. All fresh produce and bread I've purchased here made me quite happy. The store is sparkling clean, well lighted. My only gripe: the wine selection is mediocre. Lots of low priced generic, factory produced wines from Australia, South Africa, Argentina, etc. As France is just across the channel why are there not more French good quality wines in stock? Still, I'm a happy Budgen's customer.

Hard alcohol are located behind the cashiers so you'll have to ask for those. There are also magazines by the register. They do have some basic toiletries, but i would go next door to the Chemist if you need health and beauty products! We got some water for our hotel room, about 50p for a liter which is not a bad price. We also got our favorite Cadbury bars. The Cadbury bars taste different here than the ones in the US. Here they have Wispa, Twirl and Flake which are my favorite bar.

The only difference I noticed about this store compared to other Sainsbury's Local locations, was how the milk was displayed on a metal milk crate, rather than the traditional open refrigerated shelf. The store was reasonably clean I did notice the selection of to-go food and drink to be quite pricey, perhaps this is to push people towards purchasing a meal deal. (With a lack of gluten-free options on here other than an awful seeded bread sandwich if you're lucky, this isn't something I'd go for) They do close at 10 pm here, which could catch out-of-town visitors off guard, as Sainsbury's Local stores are usually open until 11 pm, the extra hour is crucial for me so it is a shame they close this store early, especially as their is a lack of alternatives nearby. 3*
