I was a client at Bloom Studio for 9 months and I never had any problems until I tried to cancel an appointment back in September. I left a voicemail 3 days before my appointment and received a text letting me know that if I canceled, I'd be charged my full appointment fee (around $500) since it was within two weeks of my appointment. While nothing about a 2-week cancellation policy was posted on personal or business socials or website, I decided to keep the appointment to avoid my card being charged. I got a call from the salon two days later letting me know that Salem (my stylist and also the owner) went into labor and couldn't keep our appointment for the next day, which was completely fine with me because I obviously would never expect her to keep my appointment while she was in labor, and I'd originally wanted to cancel anyway. Another stylist said that either herself or another stylist at the salon (neither of which were fully certified in extensions) could take my appointment for a 25% discount if I wanted. I said I was fine with cancelling and asked for confirmation that I wouldn't be charged a fee given the circumstances. The other stylist said she didn't know and that she'd have to check with Salem. I told her I didn't feel comfortable paying a cancellation fee for an appointment that ultimately, I didn't cancel, but to please not bother Salem while she was in labor, and she responded saying "it's fine, she's still working and answering messages." We even laughed about it because of course she was still working and answering messages while in active labor. The stylist called me back, told me there was no cancellation fee and that all my future appointments were cancelled. I did let the stylist know I thought the 2 week cancellation policy was ridiculous but I was not mean, nasty, rude, demanding, nor disrespectful on the phone with her. I got a DM from Salem not even an hour later basically saying everything the other stylist said to me: That she wouldn't charge me a cancellation fee but that she agreed it was best we part ways ( like stated, I had cancelled all my future appointments during the call earlier since I was moving and had already been speaking with/found a new salon where I would be). The tone of her message was weird, but everything was resolved, so I let it go. Fast forward over 6 months later to this week, and a TikTok from Bloom Studio/Salem popped up on my FYP. It has screenshots of her last message to me and pictures of her in the hospital after giving birth, and a caption saying "sometimes you just have to fire your client and go about your day. It's crazy work to be difficult when your stylist is 9 months pregnant. It's even crazier work to be difficult when she goes into labor 2 weeks early & is rushed to the hospital. GIRL BYE. Don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya." The caption, pictures, and Salem's responses to the comments make it seem like I was upset that she couldn't keep my appointment even though she was in labor, or that I demanded the receptionist reach out to her, which was obviously not the case. I then found that she also posted something similar on Instagram, this time with video of me from one of my previous appointments, which was posted without my knowledge. Both of these were posted within the last 2 weeks, months after all of this happened. I had never posted about any of this on socials or left any reviews until now. It's been disturbing to find out that a salon I went to for months and spent thousands of dollars on extensions would bring up an already resolved situation months after the fact and completely misrepresent what happened. We've had no contact since then and like I said, I never posted anything about this until all of this surfaced. I can only assume it's for increased engagement on her socials. I'd always had good experiences with Salem in the past, so I'm completely blindsided by how she's chosen to handle this. There are similar stories in other reviews that show a pattern of overreaction, dishonesty, and aggression towards clients. Steer clear of this salon if you don't want videos and a fabricated story about you to end up on social media. read more

Bloom feels like home right when you walk in. The environment and hospitality is inviting and relaxed which is really what I hope for when I decide to take time for self care. I have been seeing Salem for the past several years and cannot recommend her enough. She has taken me through warm brunette, beautiful balayage, and even my most recent copper tones -- and every single time she absolutely nails it. Salem has an incredible eye for color which is something I value, being so heavily involved with color in my personal career. She knows how to create dimension, richness, and tones that feel elevated but still natural. My hair always looks (and feels) healthy and intentional when she is finished with it. Beyond her talent, she is professional, consistent, and truly cares about her clients and team. It has been inspiring to see God move in her life and bless her business as a testament to her honest hustle and work ethic. The salon owner left me in tears more than once. I've never been to a salon where I felt so much tension. I've also never been treated so rudely by anyone as I was at this salon, and I spent thousands of dollars here on extensions and services for about a year. The services are overpriced and the extensions are painful, damaging and are of poor quality compared to other salons in Lynchburg. The extensions left me with bald spots, and an inability to fall asleep at night because they were so tight. Salem wanted to charge me $75 to remove them four days after I paid several hundred dollars to have them moved up with my hair service, and I was not willing to pay. I told her I'd have someone else do it because I wasn't willing to add that on top of what I'd paid the very same week. She removed them for me anyway, which took her maybe two minutes. As I walked out the door, she said "next time it's going to be a full charge for my time." I unfollowed her later that night, in disbelief over the way in which I was treated by her, and woke up the next morning to see she had blocked me on everything. So professional. If you go to bloom, here may be two stylists coloring your hair on two sides of your head at once, and you'll be left to process forever while the stylists work on other people they booked at the same time as you. You better not ask any questions, because that means that you will be "questioning their professional expertise" and the owner will take offense and probably go off on you in some way, or treat you with an icy passive aggression that will leave you sick to your stomach. If you have a complaint, or are dissatisfied with anything, prepare to face the wrath of the salon owner. Oh, and you'll probably be blocked on all social media. I could go into extensive detail over the horrors I experienced here but it would take a long time. Just take my advice and go somewhere else, where you won't be judged, mistreated and charged a fortune for mediocre work. People are afraid to leave honest reviews about this place because they're afraid of the backlash they may get from the owner, but ask around and you'll hear about very similar experiences to mine. It's a shame because a business that's run like this will not continue to stand. I hope and pray that things change here for the sake of the clients and employees of this salon. read more

BEST SALON. holy smokes i grew up around lynchburg and always struggled finding a salon that made me love my hair. i recently got out of a relationship and went into this salon for the first time because i wanted to feel better about myself. i asked salem to give me that "revenge hair" and she sure as hell did!!! i feel so confident and beautiful because of the cut and color (she even helped me find the best way to part my hair for my face...like c'mon that's amazing no one has ever done that for me before). i fully trust them to do what they know is best for my hair because they are extremely professional and sweet. i even left with a few new goodies because they use the best products that are reasonably priced and smell incredible. seriously cannot say enough great things about these girls. **basically hair magicians and i won't ever go anywhere else** read more

OMG I'm convinced Salem is the hair version of Jesus. I came in for a corrective color (after a consultation) and Salem hooked me up. She explained everything she was doing and had the attitude of "we'll keep working until we get it right." Oh my goodness did she get it right. I definitely found my new salon. What a joke for a potentially good business. I've come to Bloom studio twice and thought and talked very highly of them. That is until the other day when I received a message from the owner of Bloom studio (Salem). I scheduled an appointment and I was unable to show up because I am on the other side of the country with my mom because her dad has been sent to the hospital for a heart attack. Just like any other sane person would not think about your haircut appointment when you have family that need help. But the owner of Bloom (Salem) decided to send this message out to one of her customers (me) and sent me the same message to my email then added me on Facebook to send me the same message. Casey from Bloom Studios always knows how to get my hair to where I want it to go. When I walked in today, Lexi politely told me Casey would be with me in a second and asked if I wanted something to drink. (Ohhhh, that's new!) I didn't want anything, but I still appreciated their care for their clients. Casey and I had discussed what I wanted done with my hair and so we got down to business. My hair hasn't been colored much, so a lot of the process is totally new to me, but I had very light highlights in my natural color from my last visit, but this time I wanted to go ashy. I really liked the stark contrast in the pics on pinterest, but knew a lot of those pics can be hard to recreate because so many aren't real. Y'all. SHE DID IT. The darkest brown on the roots, ashy medium brown in the middle, and ashy blond/silver on the ends and in the highlights. When I sat down at the studio after having all the color treatments done and I saw my hair (still wet, y'all.) It looked GLORIOUS! Then she started drying it. EPIC. BADASS. ICE QUEEN. When I first entered the salon it was in through an alley and down some stairs. Don't fall! And you enter a basement where the fumes of the products might make you pass out. I went to get a blow out from Lexi and before that I did do a conditioning treatment ( I get blowouts all the time) I asked her if it would be under an hr to do conditioning treatment and a blow out because I was on a time crunch she said it would be no problem so I'm siting there for close to an hr she turns me around and I mean it is a mess. Nothing like what I wanted I mean how can you mess up a blow out? Even after I showed her the pictures. And I told her I didn't like it at all and told her to please fix it. She couldn't get it like anything I wanted so she just ended up putting curls in it and I had to go home and fix it. When I turned around in the mirror I was like wtf because I was soooo upset with how it looked. And I told her I wasn't trying to be a b**** but i didn't like it at all. She told me in order to get the style I wanted she needed a bigger brush and I asked her if she had one and she said no... (like aren't you guys a hair salon?!?) so I said can you please ask one of the other girls and she did find one so that's good lol. As I was leaving of course they did charge me and as I was paying the card machine wasn't working and I was like I really gotta go can you please help me? She just sat there like she was in space or something. Tried reaching out to the owner who said she heard the whole thing I asked her why didn't she step in then? And later on she told me she actually didn't hear it herself but heard from around the salon that I was being so rude to her. Sorry if someone tells you they don't like their hair.
