A well-appointed, gorgeous public library. I entered on a Friday afternoon and found the library busy with teens studying, all ages browsing books and seniors filling several tables playing cards and board games in a rec. room that is right at the front entrance. I browsed the little bookstore and purchased a 1000 piece puzzle from Springbok and two cd's all for just $5.00. There is a children's room right at the front of the entrance. Also at the front of the entrance are a nice selection of mobility aids for those that need a little assistance getting around. The entrance itself is full of beautiful plants, trees and scenic decorations, making the entire vibe very welcoming. There is a computer room in the far back, a heft section of nothing but large print books. The front desk people were very knowledgeable and friendly. read more

In town for a few days with plans to spend time with family while working remotely, I needed somewhere to go due to my mom's dog barking. She suggested the Bloomfield Township Public Library and admittedly, I was a bit hesitant at first. However, I was in need of somewhere quiet to connect to video calls and I didn't have much time, so I somewhat begrudgingly headed over. Wow - I was blown away by the beautiful space - both indoor and out. There are plenty of friendly staff members to help answer your questions, obviously tons of books, a large and colorful children's area, an outdoor area, a vending machine area, computer area, plenty of desks, and private rooms for members. I am not a resident or member, so I headed outside to a beautiful terrace and I'm now back for my second day working here because I loved it so much. I haven't looked too deeply, but there also appear to be programs for community members of all ages to partake in - from book clubs and writers groups to knitting groups, summer craft kits, language conversation groups, speed dating with a book, and so much more. I'm literally so impressed with everything this library has to offer. I will be back and this may inspire me to also visit my own library back home. This library is a community treasure! It's huge! Excellent space to meet up with others or quiet areas for personal learning/work It's clean! It makes me feel good to be there So many resources available, such as kits to take home for all ages When we became new members a year ago, the experience was not great (I found it incredibly odd that nobody said "welcome to the library, would you like a tour?" - they just asked for proof of residency, and handed us cards. It was a disappointing experience because we loved the library we came from) but other than that, the staff has been so helpful when I've asked questions, they've helped find books on specific topics, and the library has held such wonderful community events! I hope to see continued community outreach to make it even better. Please support libraries! read more

I remember coming here a lot as a kid when I was in school, and then quit coming here when I went off to College. Many years later I find myself back on this side of town, and I finally made it back here to check the place out. In one sense, it's the same library I remember as a kid. Huge, tons of selection, plenty of places to run off and hide to do whatever you need to do, weather it's study, read, or surf the net. In other senses, the library has kept up with the times and is pretty "cutting edge." The place is in good condition, well run, and seems to be in excellent shape. I've seen a few sad librarys in my days, but this isn't one of them fo sho! I stopped in today because I wanted to browse the book selection for some fresh reading. I finished off the books I had to read at home, and figured cruising here would help me find something...and I did! Granted I haven't spent as much time here as I would like too in the past few months, but hopefully that will change with summer coming. I like it here because as an adult, I can cruise through the library without stepping over people to check stuff out. They even have a little café where you get a snack or two along with getting stuff done. They also have book sales over the summer as well, which I have come here for with my mom when the weathers nice. Great way to support the library and get some cheap reads. They also have a cute little shop where you can purchase small ticket items, books and whatever else they carry in stock. I didn't have much interaction with the staff here, but they seem to know what they were doing. Overall a positive experience, and if anything changes I will post about it as I frequent this location. read more

My favorite library in Michigan -- granted I have only been to this one, the West Bloomfield Library, the Franklin and Birmingham Library. Very clean and so pretty. It's truly a wonderful place to work. It is usually very quiet and not that crowded, the staff is helpful and there are private rooms and nice big round wooden tables for getting work done. I basically lived here for 3 months while studying for my LSATs. read more

We are so fortunate to have such an amazing resource right here in our community. The plethora of their services almost had no end. Let's start with the children's section. A huge area filled with so much for all young ages. Starting with books for all ages to their hands on play area filled with puzzles. They also have an additional section for items specifically for kids with special needs. Lastly, they have several computers for educational video games for visual learning. For young adults and adults, their collections are very impressive. Options are books in all categories, ebooks, extensive DVD collections, study rooms, etc. They also have children's programs but they moved them to the middle of the work week unfortunately. It used to be on the weekends, but now, it's too hard for us to participate. read more

Holy reference section, Batman! This place is the Ritz Carlton of libraries. I grew up in Bloomfield Hills, so this was my home library as a kid. It was always nice, I mean hey, Bloomfield has a lot of rich taxpayers, so it should be. But they just finished a $17 million renovation, including a 37,000-square-foot expansion. And it is bee-you-tee-ful. Gorgeous, just gorgeous. The place is completely redone. Everything is modern and clean and state-of-the-art. In fact, the only thing that looks familiar is the bronze statue of a girl and her grandfather reading books on a bench that kids still love to play on. First of all -- the furniture. There are gorgeous red couches that I swear are velvet. The counters are sweeping wood and marble arcs that match the original beams bracing the ceiling. The carpet, the tables, the architecture -- it's all top notch. The private study rooms even have these cool long windows that let you look outside without being too distracting. Every ten feet, there is another chic little computer stand to look up books. The bathrooms are awash in marble and even have full-length mirrors! There is a café area where you can talk at a normal voice and use your cell phone. The only thing is there isn't actually a café, just a coffee vending machine (but it's several notches up from those all ones that spit out a cup and then sort of pee the coffee all over it). There's even a little gift shop that sells used books for a dollar or two and little toys for the kids. What amazed me, though, was that the library now has a gorgeous outdoor area. It's getting a little too cold for it now, but when I went there a few weeks ago, high school girls were doing their homework out in the cutest little patio area with umbrella tables and a TON of flowers. It's almost impossible to actually describe how jaw-dropping the library is now. From the impressive entrance ramp to the wide-open floor plan and super expensive-looking decor, it's just luxurious. But hey, they also have books! And CDs and DVDs. They have a really extensive selection of DVDs, so if you live in Bloomfield, check the library before Netflix and you could go to the next plan down and save some money. Even if you don't live in Bloomfield, though, this place is worth a look. If you live close, I would make this my study/chill spot. It's like being in a hotel lobby, but serene and filled with books, magazines, maps, and computers. read more

Even though I don't live in Bloomfield, I'm using the LIbrary Network to take full advantage of this newly renovated (and as the other Yelper mentioned... GORGEOUS) library, at the corner of Lone Pine and Telegraph. A library is a library, but this is more like a gathering place with an expansive selection of books, DVDs and CDs. I want to pad around in my PJs and roll around in the books. And the bathrooms alone are more elaborate and gorgeous than my house. Times three. read more

If you need to throw an impromptu meeting together and don't have a corporate venue to use, this is the place to go. You can get all manner of rooms on no notice and of course the rooms are private, have comfortable chairs and tables and needless to say they have WIFI. The only bummer is that because anyone that walks in can get a room with no reservation, often the rooms are all filled up with students using them for studying. They seem to stay there for hours. We recently held a subdivision meeting in one of the private rooms in the basement. This was a different kind of meeting room, it was for public meetings. I think that room actually was reserved and it is probable that we paid for it. But knowing how cheap we are as an organization, it couldn't have cost us much at all. And that room was quite serviceable and there was a posted sign at the library entrance telling attendees what room we were in. Besides the meeting rooms, this is a great library too. They have all kinds of media you can take out and a nice selection of books. When I have needed materials that I could not find, the staff was helpful and they can find things that they don't have and get them for you on loan from other area libraries. It is one of the perks of living in BH. But I don't think you have to be a resident to take advantage. read more

I love this library - it has everything including video games. I live in Bloomfield and am glad that other people can use this excellent resource. They have classes, concerts, a study lounge, private rooms - and so long as you belong to a member library you can borrow books! Also has tons of movies and music. read more

I don't read too good. As you can tell by my grammar, I don't frequent the library too much. I am here now to do some work and WOW. This place is fantastic. It's a really modern building. It resembles one of those hi-tech company incubator spaces like Automation Alley. I'm talking modern furniture. Great lighting. Open spaces. Nice woodwork. It makes me want to work out of this library everyday... BUT.... The internet here is slow. I know they do this so you don't frequent Youtube or torrent sites but it's even slow for surfing the web. I guess this could be good in a way if you want to get "real" work done. All they need here is a little sandwich shop and this place would be money. read more

Such a fancy library!!! i am actually here right now, using a guest computer- there is a huge selection of dell desktop computers to use here. there are a number of private study rooms -- accommodating small and larger groups. comfortable seating throughout the entire library. and a wide range of study/seated areas. there is a gift shop in the front of the building. this library is exceptionally quite. there is also vending machines with snacks, one for drinks, and one with seattle's best coffee! huge parking lot read more

Love love the remodel of this library. I grew up using this library when I went to HS many years ago. We brought my 3yo son to play in the huge youth area. There are hug Sesame Street plush animals, rocking chair, pretend dress up area, and lots of play areas with puzzles, board books, etc. Looking forward to bringing back my son with his grandma here. read more

I brought my stepchildren here. I absolutely love this place. So far the staff have been extremely nice and helpful. And the hours of operation is not bad! I work from "home" (well anywhere there is internet access) and I have gone to a number of libraries. So far I love this the most. The court yard is beautiful. They have a small indoor cafeteria. The children's library has a play area. The books are easy to find. There are a bunch of computers and notebooks for the children to play on. It's wonderful! This is my first day being here so my view of the place might change. But let's keep my fingers crossed! I stay in Southfield and while I love their large selection of books, the hours of operation fluctuates. Thank you for making me feel welcome. read more

This is probably one of the best public libraries in Michigan, much better than the public ones in Birmingham, Troy and Ann Arbor in terms of the ambiance. The library has a very modern, sleek design and feel - nice natural lights, very clean, warm, spacious and inviting. They also have enough rooms (like the study carrels in U of M graduate library) that have certain privacy. Most of the time it's not that crowded, and people there dress a bit better so you don't feel so depressing or your belongs are unsafe in this hard-hit Michigan. read more

Very lovely facility with great collections, a little cafe, bookstore, and awesome children's collection in its own section. That said, I don't think that the designer was very thoughtful about the number of patrons who would be doing non-silent group study. There is almost always a shortage of study rooms, so much so that they have set up key card access and restrict use to people who not only live in Bloomfield Township, but have a current library card on file. I've never seen a library this strict on policies like that. That would even be okay if there were sufficient open areas of seating where people could have quiet conversation, but I have been asked to move from what appeared to be group study seating, even when speaking in a low voice. read more

This library had a huge rennovation around 2008 from the parking lot to the exterior to the interior. This is a lovely modern space. They have an entire dvd room. You can even place holds on new lease dvds which most libraries do not allow. This is an option only if you belong to this library specifically. However, you have to return them within a day. Make sure you register your card as a michicard- you can visit multiple libraries in the county. However, melcat will ship it to your library from anywhere in Michigan....I cannot praise melcat enough! Open seven days a week. read more

Great concerts on Friday nights! Chamber music with U of M grad students, and now some jazz and other popular music. All free of charge. They fixed the problem that Richard F complained about - the study rooms are for residents only, and your neat new library card unlocks the door. Since they started doing this (and that was a year ago!), I've had no problem finding a room to use. read more
