There is a great ESL discussion group at WBLIB that's run by volunteers most weeks on Thursdays at 10 am - 12 pm and Wednesdays at 7:00 - 8:30 pm. All ages and English language levels are welcome. You can even bring your kids along if they're not in school, and you don't have to talk if you just feel like listening. It's a nice group of people with many learners coming often who have become friends outside of the library from meeting at the weekly group discussion. If you're not busy, please stop by sometime and check out this awesome (free) class. It's has really been a fun experience, and I highly recommend it! The class is held in a meeting room near the adult non-fiction area and some of the study rooms. A librarian can direct you where to go. :) read more

This library is amazing. They have some of the best programming. The staff is incredible, they are loving, caring and friendly. From mommy and me classes, to after school programs, to meet the author opportunities, computer classes, homework help...you name it they either have it or tried it at some point. You feel welcome and accepted as soon as you walk in the door. They work very closely with the West Bloomfield school system and help coordinate the Pine Tree and Rap book contests for elementary and middle school kids. The programs provide a curated selection of books and give kids an opportunity to discover different writing styles and genres. They also always hold an end of the school year event complete with ponies, games, animal farm and of course a summer reading contest. read more

Yes this is my local library, it was at first strange and not familiar but over last year is my place to go to get a book and hang. Yes, I still rent my books and turn pages when reading, loving every moment. Everyone is friendly here and they make my visit easy if I need any help from the staff. The library is large and has many sections. It's a newer building so it does not have the charm of a old library. But it's have a large selection of books. The book will automatically renewal if you are running late, no late fees here. I bring my kids here as often as I can, and they get lost between the shelves full of stories, or they go there to work on their homework, or to meet a study group. read more

We always borrow the latest movies in one day for free. They are displayed at the lobby or close to the checkout counter. If you failed to renew online via their website, you will be charged $1. After a few weeks, the DVDs will be placed with the rest of the old movies inside the Main Library. They charge you $0.15 per day. For convenience the Library has a Drive-Thru window on the right side building, for you to borrow, return or renew the materials. As of September 2016, it is temporarily closed for renovation. The book selection for me is not extensive probably due to the size of its area. They separate the Adult Section and the Kids Area. You can look up for a book, magazines, ebooks or movies by searching through a touch screen computer. Pencils and paper are provided at the desk. There's study rooms you can occupy for group study or meeting. They have computer stations for you to use and search online. Extra services like scanners, punchers/binders, printers and movie/cd converters. You might need to buy a reloadable card for $0.50, and use it by inserting inside the slots to pay for the extra services. The machine will be located at the pantry. It's a few steps after the Main Lobby Information Area. The pantry has vending machines for coffee, soda, chips, other snack size items and bill changer. Be sure to read the signs if it's allowed to eat and drink outside the pantry. We enrolled in some of the Adult Computer Classes for Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Web Page Design. The class is scheduled and limited for 10 students. You may need to make a reservation online thru your account or ask an available Librarian to sign you up for Free! It depends on the instructor on how the class will turn out to be...fun and useful. The Library also has a gift shop, restrooms, telephone and water fountain. You may park your bikes on the right side of the building. At the back of the building and parking lot, there is a charging station for electric cars. It cost $1 for an hour of charging. Way back, across the library parking lot, there is a trail going uphill. When you reach the top, there are benches with inscription of generous donors. As you seat down, there is a view of downhill. During wintertime, this is the best place to go sledding. Just watch out for incoming traffic of kids with their snow boards or sled. As of Fall time, I saw a few squirrels and a beaver running along their furry business :-) I'd like to give The Library five stars, until recently I had a bad impression of three of their Library Clerks. Either they were having a bad day or have innate expressionless face. There's an elderly hoping for assistance, but one of the clerks just pointed his finger instead of walking the person towards the aisle. But the rest of them are friendly to provide assistance. There's a bus stop or smartbus service nearby. read more

Let me tell you a story about this library's apathy toward its community: I am a student who's preparing for a graduate program which requires taking a computer-delivered standardized test (GRE). Today, after having the bad luck of not being able to take the test at my local library (due to a last-minute building closure), I had to improvise by securing a private room at another library. Low and behold, the next library did not have private rooms, leaving me with only one option remaining within the time I had before starting - WB Public Library. Hurried, I decided to call while driving there to explain my unfortunate situation and confirm that a room was available. The person I spoke with informed me of the policy requiring one to have a library card in order to use a room. Explaining both my predicament and urgency, as well as promising to sign up for a card as soon as my exam ended, I practically begged for leniency. This was unwarranted. Now, due to the lack of sympathy and inclusivity, I lost time, money, and a shot at early admission to my program. I am not blaming the individual I spoke with, but I think it's absurd how a resource as accessible as a public library still fails to support the varying needs of its patrons. P.S. Other libraries I've been to do not have such policies regarding the use of their space. But I suppose pretentious exclusivity trumps serving the public at the West Bloomfield Public Library... read more

The library is very nice and decent but the staff is very very rude. Whenever you ask for something they make you feel bad for even asking. They communicate their rules in a very aggressive fashion and don't make exception to let you in an available study room if you forgot your library card. I will chose to go to a different library nearby next time rather than deal with WBTPL. P.S. I know sometimes a person can have a bad day and be rude. But at this library it looks like librarians have bad days constantly. Why work there is you don't enjoy it? read more

I've been coming here for 20+ years and even remember the way it looked before its renovation. This library is a second home to me. It's a quiet, comfortable place to study, read, and have some "me time" when I need it. There are plenty of computers available in the main adult section, as well as the youth section. There are study rooms, quiet study rooms, a computer room, and various places to sit and read all over. My favorite thing about the library is their extensive book collection that is constantly being updated. They have the latest books from best seller lists and have suggestions throughout on what to read. They have several boards across the library with community updates and library events too. The youth section has several areas for kids to play, read, and learn. They also have activity sections and computers for kids to play on. The books are separated by characters, hobbies, series, authors, etc. My daughter loves to come here and play. It makes me happy to see her excited to play here because I enjoyed coming here as a kid to play, too! There are plenty of things to do with kids of all ages. Overall, this is one of the nicest and cleanest libraries I've ever been to and my favorite to date. I love coming here. There is so much they offer their members, most of which don't know or utilize. Stop in and see for yourself. read more

I do not recommend visiting this library for any reason. They do not want you here and they will treat you as such. They loudly say that their time limit is 45 min minutes making it impossible to concentrate and rudely inform everyone that comes in of this, advising against coming to study and reference anything as well. The man angrily walking around hating his job has no problem making you feel as uncomfortable as possible. I recommend going to a restaurant or even your car if you need someplace quiet to get any work/reading/research done for any amount of time. read more

A spectacular modern public library. This place offers something for all ages. They have an amazing children's section with toy/media stations and a play area. Also a great place for adults to study, surf the net or just meet with friends. The one down side is that you occasionally have to deal with loud teeny boppers. Great library with an emphasis on kids and teens, and a great DVD collection. You can even pop in the DVDs in one of the many computers, put on some provided headphones and enjoy a movie! There is a cafe area right when you walk in, to get yourself hydrated before a day of studying. They have nice private study rooms, and a very helpful staff. The Friends of the Library store has great selection, and usually has some sort of sidewalk sale going on (you've seen the stickers around town.) read more

I really do love this library even though I don't utilize as much as I should. It's often a nice escape from the heat during the summer months for me. In addition to a reasonably good collection of books, there is an extensive DVD and CD collection. But I don't think those are the main reasons I go here; the space is. It's a fine place to study, whether individually or in a group study room, or simply to hang out. The staff is exceptionally helpful. Everyone is so nice. I feel bad if I have an overdue book! This library is beautiful. Their big events are wonderful for children. Their weekly tot programs...not so much. The librarians are not friendly to the kids. They seem eager for them to leave. They have a huge room that could be filled with gross and fine motor activities, like other community libraries have with much smaller spaces. The dolls to the dollhouse are 10 times the size of the furniture. I once went and didn't pre-register, couldn't find the library card and they weren't going to let my grandson in, even though there were only 10 children in the room. The headphones to the child computers don't work well. Volume is so low you can't hear it. They could clean off the kitchen items and computer screens. Has the potential to be much more enticing to pre-readers. read more

West Acres branch knows how to take the "public" out of Public Library. This location does not allow even guest usage of their Internet stations despite having more than several available and their overall library traffic being very light at the time of my visit. No exceptions made even with drivers license or active library card from another branch. They segregate / direct non-resident "riff raff" to the main branch, just so you know. I had quick, but official business to take care of but was not near my local branch in White Lake. Don't expect friendly customer service or special accommodations to be made here. They definitely take the 'Don't Feed The Library Animals' approach quite seriously. I have never experienced anything like this anywhere. And I've been to A LOT of libraries during my 40 years on this planet to date. read more

The library is great for children and adults. The library could get very packed from 3pm-7pm. West Bloomfield library has 7 study rooms, which are always occupied. The children's section is so cute and fun! It has a puppet show section, a kitchen set, and iPads! read more

They don't make libraries like they use to anymore. The West Bloomfield Library is a wonderful facility, it's up to date with the latest technology, and the staff is very knowledgeable and eager to lend a helping hand. They have a variety of classes available to children of all ages that include story time, finger painting, puppet shows, and so much more. Reservations are recommended; many classes fill up quickly.... They even have classes available for adults so be sure to check out their monthly calendar, it's a great way to get some "ME" time, mingle with others of similar interest, and get out of the house :) read more

This library has been renovated in recent years and offers a state of the art children's area. It is extremely kid friendly. It offers a wonderful collection of reading and audio materials with computers too. This is one library that you must bring the kids along for a visit. They won't want to leave! read more

the workers here are so disrespectful and demanding. I have never been so disrespected in my life. They demanded I left a study room when I was waiting upon the arrival of my tutor.... and I was most shocked because I was sitting in the tutoring room actually waiting for my tutor and was kicked out so a bunch of kids could go and goof off when I actually had work to get done. I hope you are not disrespected like I was and they change their staff because this was outrageous!!!!!!! read more

The library is beautiful inside, lots of space to study in quiet areas and group areas. The only complaint I have is that the library is FILLED with bugs, I've seen an abundance amount of spiders since I've been studying here, to the point where I think it would be a good idea to get it sprayed frequently, or more frequently than they have been because its very distracting and disturbing. This library is stunning! Not only is it surrounded by hiking trails and lakes, it is landscaped perfectly and adorned with very nice sculptures. Inside you will find meeting rooms, study rooms, a library gift shop, and fireplaces. They have an amazing collection of movies esp. foreign films. I am a HUGE fan of Japanese horror and Bollywood and they got me covered. They also have the largest audio book collection I have ever seen. They have a great music collection as well....even obscure indie bands (just check the teenie bopper section). Free wifi is always a hit. Tons of computers with scanners for you to use. No need to register with a librarian, no time limit....If this library does not have what you want just melcat it and it will be there within a few brief days. They are lucky that they have the money to be open seven days a week, unlike many other libraries. They have a great webpage as well, where you can even pay your fines....which is nice. I hate paying fines in person- I feel like I am turning myself in. Also, online you can get help with your homework from a librarian. They have fiesta cooking classes, Sanders chocolate tastings, computer lessons, puppets, open gaming, ereaders club, children's songs and stories, investing classes, teen programs, reading groups...tons of programs. If you are not full from a cooking class and hunger strikes you can hit one of their vending machines. Also, on their webpage you can reserve a room, browse Pearl's picks or many other lists to give your reading list fresh additions. Ebooks and e audio available through metronet not digital overdrive. Seriously, you could spend a day here. Make sure you register your card as a michicard- you can visit multiple libraries in the county. However, melcat will ship it to your library from anywhere in Michigan....I cannot praise melcat enough! read more

It's ok, it's more eye-candy than anything else, their book selection is alright, but don't bother looking for any books on Chihuahua!!! Because they only have ONE and it's a 32 page book in the children's section, and it's always checked out! Pretty sad really. The "Friend's Store", is the Libraries' little used book-shop, there is ALWAYS, a random old woman "working" the register in there who seems not to be all there!!! And I don't mean just ONE woman! Whenever I go in there it's ALWAYS whichever old woman is working the register seems to have like issues or something, like they are SO old they just can't understand where things are, and are NOT helpful at all, or just don't know how to operate things. But I guess you can't bitch to much when it's volunteer based help, yet all their volunteers seem to have behavior problems, or just look like their deteriorating before your eyes.... I tried to get a library card after moving to West Bloomfield. My driver license had my previous address. The receptionist wouldn't accept a change of address form. I offered to provide my home contract and utility bills but she said no, based on their policy they only accept ID! That was really strange... read more
