Wanted to check out this place for their $1 egg tarts if you purchase 12 or more, which is a steal…read morein this economy! First time I came around 11:30 and they were sold out. They said would be around 20-30 mins wait and I didn't bother waiting. Came back another day around 10:45 and they just came out fresh out of the oven. I generally do not like the crust of the egg tart (I'm weird, I know LOL) so I can't comment if it good or not compared to other bakeries, but the eggy part itself was pretty. It's a bit sweeter than I like but hey, for $1, I can't complain. They also have your traditional Chinese buns along with some specialty buns. I tried two of their newer buns: Red Velvet Strawberry Cream Soft Bun and Cheese Durian Bun - both were so fresh, soft, and not too sweet! I'd definitely get it again. I also got their black sesame loaf, but it was just a few black sesame seed on top and the inside was all red bean paste...I wouldn't get this again as I was hoping it would be black sesame paste. Their prices were affordable ranging between $2-$5. The bakery itself is big and has plenty of seating. They have cakes at the front, buns in the middle, and smaller cakes/sandwiches/(cooked food?) in the back. Service is friendly and they can get quite busy when trying to pay as they only have one person at the front making the drinks, taking order and payment. Located inside of Bridlewood Mall, it's a bit hidden if you go in from inside the mall, but they have a separate entrance from the outside as well.

Stopped by here after seeing $1 egg tart. We tried it and it was pretty good. Buttery and flaky,…read moreand still warm and freshly out of the oven. The only downside is you have to buy a minimum 12 of them. Which it is a lot if there's only two of us. Everything was fast and efficient. I order at the counter and they package everything really fast. The place itself is like a cafe, there were many seatings available.

The store is a little hidden, but it's within the inner stripes of the midland plaza! :)…read more As it's not in the main stripe, there are plenty of free parking outside this store. Their chiffon box cakes are great value! We order the durian chiffon box cake (20$) and it was generous packed with durian! We also order their durian crepe cake (50$) , which I am excited to try later!

Let me start this by saying that this place totally exceeded all my expectations. I actually had…read morevery low expectations to be honest, but ultimately I am already talking with my other half about when we can come back and try more of their offerings as we just really liked their cakes. So bit of background, its my other halfs birthday and she had a craving for a mielle cake. I jumped on google, searched around and found Sweet Planet. Reviews seemed mixed, but I never let that deter me from giving a place a chance. Their website is clean and simple, with an online ordering system. To be honest I found their website to be a bit sketchy and I wasnt sure if it was legit! So I called the place and spoke to someone to confirm that they would be able to make the cake in the time frame I needed. When I called the person just said hello, answered my question very briefly and we hung up. It was a very "matter of fact" conversation, no pleasantries or friendliness. About as neutral as you can get. Getting here, we had to drive around the entire building as there is actually two cake places both starting with SWEET. I think the first one I saw was sweet CHASE, but I was looking for sweet PLANET. Store front had some colorful window coverings and a simple "open" sign. Opening the door you immediately are facing a register and a big white wall behind. I heard someone yell out "HELLO" from the back and we started our conversation from there with an order number. I was in and out in 2 minutes, again no pleasantries - Just fast and efficient. Now the cake - Delicious is probably the most appropriate word. The cake came in a plain white box, and wasnt exactly instagram worthy in appearance but it was acceptable. So all this combined, my expectations were low but I am always hopeful to discover hidden gems. This was a hidden gem. We got a strawberry mielle crepe cake - The strawberries tasted nice and fresh au naturel. There was no weird sugary glazing on top, just plain old sweet strawberries. Through out the cake there was also diced strawberries. The crepe was super melt in your mouth thin. The star of the show was all that fresh hand whipped cream goodness! You could definitely tell the cream was freshly hand whipped, light, fluffy and not overly sugary with a very clean tasty finish. I have had other cakes where it leaves a bit of a after taste where you need to wash it down with some water or something, but this was just plain tasty. If I had a friend that was a pastry chef and I asked for a mielle cake - This is what I would picture getting. Well done and tasty with no frills. Bottom line, we will be back and I have no problems recommending this place. It definitely gets the job done :)

Tip: This bakery has made-to-order hot and iced teas…read more Last Sunday, I was at CF Fairview for lunch with a couple of friends. I was walking over to Hana Don and noticed this Lucullus Bakery on the other side of the mall entrance from where I'd be having lunch. I love Lucullus. My first visit was at its Yonge Street location, just south of Finch Avenue West. I recently visited its downtown Markham location and loved it. After lunch, my friends and I parted ways. They went home. I headed to this bakery to check it out. You enter the bakery using the mall entrance. There is seating inside this bakery. It was busy on a Sunday afternoon at around 3 pm. I grabbed a wooden tray and tongs. I looked at what felt like an endless lineup of baked goods. Thank goodness I was full from lunch. I would have bought a ton more if I were hungry! My haul consisted of these items: - Double chocolate croissant - Fried curry beef bao - BBQ pork bao - Curry beef puff - Egg and cucumber sandwich - Cheese dog - Large iced lemon tea The other two Lucullus locations have tea drinks that you grab out of the fridge. This one makes hot and cold teas on the spot. Two male staffers were behind the counter. One took my iced lemon tea and asked how I liked it. I said without sugar. I wanted the large size because I needed a drink to get me home. He put my baked goods in individual bags and sealed them. He then put all goods in a plastic bag. The other male staffer went to make my drink. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and got my receipt texted to me. I waited patiently for my drink. I thanked the man who made it for me. I had this drink when I got in my car. It was perfectly cold. I loved the lemon slices and lemon flavour with the tea. It was excellent! My baked goods last a couple of days. They were delicious. The egg and cucumber sandwich was yummy. Think egg salad, but simplified with mayo and cucumber slices. Sometimes, simple is all you need. The bun was soft and yummy. I loved the curry beef puff. It's so flaky with the best curry puff filling. I've had the chocolate croissant. It's amazing with dark chocolate inside a buttery croissant. The double chocolate croissant is an extension of it. This kicked-up-a-notch version has dark chocolate drizzle and powdered sugar on top. It didn't taste overly sugary with the latter on it. The dark chocolate drizzle was fun to eat. It had hardened such that you could take a piece off and eat it. I love a good cheese dog bun. This one was cheesy and yummy. I went through a phase making them at home. I don't think mine compares to how amazing this one. It had hot dogs and cheese baked a flatbread wannabe, but still fluffy like a bao. I crave another one. The BBQ bao was hefty. It had so much filling in it. There was more BBQ pork goodness than the bao holding it all together. If you love protein, this bao gives you the best bang for your money. Yummy! The biggest surprise was the fried curry beef bao. It had the same amazing filling as the curry beef puff. What I didn't expect was enjoying a hard-boiled egg in it. What?! It was brilliant and so tasty. Parking was a bit crazy. I parked by the shuttered Hudson's Bay store. I"m hoping that it's much better during the weekday. I want more. I need to return soon. (188)

We got attracted by the tall drink look. We were having lunch at the food court in the mall today,…read moreand some ladies next table were having this large drink. Then we found this bakery store. It actually was a bakery with sitting tables. Nice and big dining area. Good for people chatting as well. Drink items were pretty much like Hong Kong styles. We stick with the iced Lemon Tea with no ice and 1 sugar. It didn't take too long to complete the drink, it was warm actually without ice. There were pieces of lemon in the talk cup, and 1 sugar was perfectly balanced the black tea and citric acid tastes, and not sweet at all. I would like to try their cakes next time, they look amazing.

Staff were very friendly and keep giving out samples :) Plus, the portion and flavour were very satisfying especially considering the price (very affordable!) TLDR: Good, a bit pricey, would go again for the classic pineapple bun…read more TIP: I believe they're debit or cash only. Debit is also only for $25+ purchases. Xuan Bakery has been on my list since they've opened and I finally had the chance to take a peek inside! It's your classic Chinese bakery, so nothing special there - you just take the tray and tongs at the far end and make your way to the register. The spacing can be done a little better - you can't really have more than 2-3 people looking and getting buns at the same time. SELECTION: There wasn't a lot of variety, but with the selection they do have, it was pretty unique. They have two different types of Pineapple Buns (bo lo bao): the classic and a Taiwanese version (which looks like Japanese melon buns). They also have several different sausage buns, including one with cheese and another with pork floss. These also look a bit different, it's not encased in the bun, but it's more of a hotdog kind of look. They also offer cakes and free samples of their cakes, which look and taste like your typical Chinese bakery cakes (not my preferred taste). They seem to really want to upsell their cakes (the lady kinda tried pressuring me to try and buy). PRICE: The prices were on the higher end. You're looking at about $4-6 per bun. They also have a 'lucky draw' going on right now if your subtotal is more than $25, but my draw required a minimum purchase of $35 lol (for a free slice of cake). FAV: The classic pineapple bun. The top was SO crispy yet the bottom was SO soft. I would go back just for this by itself. There was a lady ahead of me who ONLY bought the pineapple buns. She knows what's up.
