**UPDATE**: Lisa is now threatening me with LEGAL ACTION, accusing me of "defamation" when I've only shared my honest experience on Yelp. I've had no updates from Lisa since our last email on Feb 21 (over a month ago). At that time, she replied she was consulting with "industry experts" and will get back to me. Rather than reaching out to me personally she hired a lawyer to threaten me in the hope I will take my honest review of my experience with Blooming Wed down (photo of legal letter attached). I signed a wedding planning contract with Lisa and found myself needing to terminate it merely two months later. The process has been incredibly stressful and disheartening. Throughout it, I had the opportunity to meet with ~15 wedding planners both domestically and internationally, and gained a lot of insight into the wedding planning industry and contract nuances. I'll start my review with objective observations and end with my personal experience. **Strict Signed Contract** Lisa's contract is one of the strictest planner contracts I've ever seen. It does not have an Act of God clause that protects clients, meaning if anything happens (the venue is destroyed, a hurricane comes, the couple is sick, pandemic round 2...etc) she will not refund for any reason. She did not even give out refunds during COVID. This leaves her clients extremely vulnerable to unforeseen circumstances. **Problematic Payment Structure** This is how Lisa's payment is structured: flat $15k fee or 15% of the total wedding cost, whichever is higher. It's not unheard of for a planner to request payment this way, but it's incredibly uncommon. This arrangement creates a conflict of interest, as it may incentivize steering clients toward pricier options. Also, she requires 50% upfront, while many planners I talked to only required 30%. **Budget Transparency** Lisa's services are not for budget-conscious clients, or even clients who have a budget at all. In the two months she was my planner, she failed to provide any estimated vendor costs and we never talked about my budget. I specifically asked her for a sample cost breakdown of a venue and waited a month for her response. I never received it. All of the other wedding planners I met with sent me a cost breakdown for FREE immediately after the intro call. They did this without being asked to. **Communication Challenges** I've experienced a lack of responsiveness from Lisa during our entire two months together, from our initial interest form (1 week delay) to our most recent email on which she said she would consult about our partial refund request (it has been a month without an update from her). Between her vacations and other wedding clients, I never felt my project was a priority for her. **Personal Experience** I'm deeply disappointed with the services provided by Lisa. Our decision to terminate our contract was difficult. Due to immigration issues, my father can no longer enter the USA in the foreseeable future so my partner and I have to relocate our wedding to a country unfamiliar to Lisa, rendering her services impractical. We signed our contract November 2023, encountered this problem in January 2024, and immediately let Lisa know of our situation. Despite our efforts with Lisa to find a amicable solution and many touch-points with her, my partner and I eventually landed on requesting a partial refund. Lisa refused to refund any portion of the $7.5k , even though it is written into our contract that she has the power to do so AND despite her agreeing verbatim that she did not provide $7.5k worth of service. At this point we have no date (we were considering years 2025/6/7), no venue, no vendors booked. We don't even have a budget breakdown. We have only had one venue tour with Lisa. It's evident that she has only completed a fraction of the work (2% to be exact), yet insists on keeping the full payment. I dislike posting a one-star rating to a small business, but I feel the need to be transparent and caution future clients about Lisa. It is crucial to choose a wedding planner who demonstrates flexibility, understanding, and a willingness to accommodate unforeseen circumstances. Unfortunately, Lisa's refusal to adapt to our situation and the issues outlined above do not align with her premium pricing. For me, Lisa has broken my trust and it feels like theft that she is keeping $7.5k for one hour of work. We had the absolute best time working with Lisa! Hands down the best decision we made for our wedding - Lisa helped my now-wife and I plan our wedding which took place in the fall of 2023 at Nestldown. Firstly, she knows Nestldown through and through as a venue - it has a bunch of uncommon and often difficult to navigate rules and restrictions. This meant that we didn't have to worry about surprise venue fees or fines, and instead could focus our attention on how we wanted to use the space instead. Lisa set month-by-month goals for us, which meant we were always confident that we were on track and didn't forget about certain things. This made the process so much less stressful for the both of us. She handled communicating with and following up with all of our vendors too - a blessing that can't be understated. Wedding planning is a constant stream of decision-making, which Lisa made so much easier by listening to our wants and needs and suggesting vendors, designs, timelines, hotels, and so much more. She made it so that our responsibility was to choose between a few, generally all great options rather than having to sort through the unlimited amount of choices. As an aside, Lisa has impeccable taste and knew how to execute our vision better than we could have dreamt of. We're still in love with our table settings! We were most impressed by the wedding day itself - Lisa managed all the stress of logistic so we could enjoy the day without a care in the world. Sometimes we could hear time-pressed questions being asked by vendors over the walkie-talkie, and Lisa responding to each of them expertly. None of those logistical challenges ever made it to us - and while with us, she and her team were focused on ensuring we had everything we needed and were having a good time. From the start of our conversation to the wedding day, she made the wedding planning process smooth, fun, and stress free. We had so much fun at our wedding, even the DJ told us that our wedding had the most people on the dance floor for a Monday wedding. We actively communicated through email and zoom. My fiancee and I hired Blooming Wed to plan our wedding. Upfront, we had to provide a large deposit to begin working with her. Unfortunately, we came across an issue with one critical wedding guest not being able to attend our chosen destination due to issues no one could have foreseen. Luckily, we thought, we had still not decided on a wedding date and were at least 1-2 years out from the actual wedding. We tried to work with Lisa to pivot to a new destination but Lisa did not have experience in that country. Unfortunately, we were not able to work out a solution that worked for both parties so we decided to cancel our contract. Since we were so early into our engagement with Lisa (less than 3 months) and very little work had actually been delivered to us, we requested a partial refund. Lisa responded that she would not refund any portion of the multi-thousand $$ deposit, citing the contract we signed. We recognize the contract may say one thing, but as a business owner, you have the final say in whether it's appropriate to enforce the contract for each unique situation. In fact, the contract even contains this language that explicitly states she has the power to issue a refund: "If Wedding Planner wishes to terminate this Agreement for any reason, Wedding Planner may do so, and will then refund or waive all amounts paid or due for Services not already rendered." We were disappointed with Lisa's response, to say the least. When we shared our experience online, we received a threat of a lawsuit from Lisa's lawyer if we did not remove the reviews immediately. Apparently, sharing one's honest experience with a small business is illegal now? As a fellow small business owner, I cannot begin to understand Lisa's complete lack of customer empathy, and short-sighted decision-making showcased here. We were ecstatic to find Lisa and thought she was the perfect fit for our wedding, but our experience has been beyond disappointing. In short, we cannot recommend Lisa's services. read more

Lisa is truly incredible! She is meticulous, warm, and creative. We were trying to do several ambitious things from our wedding, like having a parade band and lion dancers. She orchestrated it beautifully, and gave us great suggestions on aesthetics, design, layout, and much more. It's exceedingly hard to find someone who has such a natural creative spirit and extremely logistically / operationally competent. She also very attentive throughout our entire event and made clutch adjustments to our schedule such as moving the location of our cocktail hour to avoid the cold, and readjusting our agenda to improve the flow of our event. We engaged Lisa's services to help plan our wedding at Nestldown, where she is a recommended wedding planner. We found having Lisa's help made us navigate the multitude of choices presented to us. Given her experience, she provided many helpful tips that would not ordinarily have come to us. Throughout the planning process, Lisa was available at all times, and it was helpful to have regular check-ins to keep us on track. I don't think there was ever a moment we felt lost in the process. Lisa's help was invaluable in relieving us of stress, and her design choices were great and fit our vision of the wedding. Initially, I wasn't very convinced we needed a DOC since we were only 2 weeks away from the wedding, everything was already planned, and we had exceeded our wedding budget. Boy was I wrong! Let me start with WOW! I am so glad we choose to work with Lisa from Blooming Wed. She is fantastic! We found Lisa on our venue's recommended vendors list (Nestldown, Los Gatos, CA). We talked to a few planners, and we chose Lisa because her pricing was reasonable, we appreciated her focus on beautiful design, and her personality was lovely. She is very calm, organized, and kind; the perfect combination to help us through something as stressful as wedding planning. :) I wanted a wedding planner because I'd never really thought about a wedding... I guess I'd always imagined eloping on vacation one day! So I had no idea what goes into a wedding, or all of the different pieces involved. After looking at it even for just a few minutes, boy was it easy to get overwhelmed by all the moving parts! My husband (yay!) also really wanted a post-pandemic get-together with friends and family from afar, and thought a wedding would be the perfect way to celebrate and see everyone again (he was right). Planning: from the first meeting Lisa was great. She quickly sent over post-meeting notes and follow-up items every time we met, and was always on top of things, even chasing us as needed when we inevitably forgot to do various things. She takes the time to really get to know you, and nearly every suggestion she made was one we loved. :) Day-of: Lisa and her team were so lovely to work with. The ONE important choice you need to make is picking Blooming Wed as your Wedding Planner! There are not enough words to describe how much we loved working with Lisa and Blooming Wed. We had Blooming Wed plan, design and coordinate our October 2020 wedding and she was a true god-send to what we thought was an impossible wedding to plan and execute during the pandemic. Lisa was very responsive and made herself available across all channels and we chatted via video and email often. After taking the time to get to know my now-husband and myself, she created the perfect wedding design and knew exactly what vendors we would and wouldn't like based on our style and personalities. Lisa has great relationships with many of the top wedding vendors in terms of venues, food and drinks, florals, and entertainment and was able to find the perfect vendors for our wedding. It all started back in early Dec 2018 when I first found Lisa on social media. At the time we've already been engaged a few months and we plan to get married in 2019 but didn't have a firm date yet. So I basically signed the contract to hire Lisa as my wedding planner without a wedding date. Haha, that tells you how much I trust and believe in her after only a few phone calls and emails. To me, a good wedding planner is not someone who has hundreds of good reviews on Yelp or thousands followers on Instagram. I want someone who is dedicated, hands-on and organized, and Lisa is all! If I can, I will give it a 10 star review instead of 5. Choosing Lisa and Blooming Wed is the best decision we made for the wedding, and really the only decision that we needed to make, because everything else just followed effortlessly (in the scale of wedding preparation, of course). Our wedding exceeded all our expectations, and the expectations of all our guests, according to everyone's own word. I used to think the beautiful pictures, such as those in my review, only belong to fashion magazines, but trust me, the sweetest, most unforgettable wedding of one's dream is just a decision away. Lisa is an expert in anything wedding related and she really understands our needs and taste. I can attest to it because I spent many hours looking up venues online and nothing seems to fit all our needs, but Lisa nailed it in day one with her first three recommendations. Lisa also really cares about out budget and maintains for us up-to-date balance sheet and provided detailed estimation and comparison of each service provider we need. She tells us where we can cut cost, what is optional, and what is absolutely necessary. We feel that every dollar of our budget were spent at the right place and each one of our vendors, from MUA, to photography, to officiation, were best in the business. Wedding planning can be very stressful and frustrating especially when you have a full-time job. I'm so glad that I found Lisa and hired her as my wedding planner. It was the best investment I've made! I'm very picky and very particular and I always have a lot of ideas myself. I have no siblings, but Lisa was just like my sister and like my best friend. She not only did her job as a wedding planner, but also spent her time with me to listen to me and calm me down. She also helped me keep track of the to-do list, count downs, and she created many versions of a detailed timeline to make sure it met all of my requirements and I was happy with it. Not every vendor is easy to deal with, but Lisa helped me negotiate and communicate with all the vendors; she coordinated and organized everything and made sure I was aware of the next steps and all the decisions that I had to make. Because of Lisa, we were able to save a lot of time, energy and money. On the wedding day, Lisa arrived even before the MUA so I could have the peace of mind because of her. Everything went so smoothly and all my guests told me the wedding was great. When I was taking photos, eating, enjoying the time with my family and friends, I knew Lisa must be running around to make sure everything is okay so that I could have an easy day. It was the first time for many of my guests to attend an American wedding. I was so happy that they had a great experience and my wedding would be an example for many of them! We had a great wedding with the help of Lisa at this special time of COVID-19. Lisa had many meetings and emails with us to talk about many details and had venue visit with us together back to January. We originally schedule on July this year for our wedding, but we deferred it because of the pandemic. Lisa did such an amazing job. Guest have expressed to me on how smooth and seamless everything was from start to finish. If I could have started all over I would have hired Lisa to be my full wedding planner, I loved her style. However I already did a bulk of my planning by the time I realized I needed help. So Lisa was hired to be the month of coordinator. From the moment that Lisa jumped in she was able to pull together all the loose ends that I got too busy to follow up on. She was very detail oriented and organized. Asked me all the right questions that I had yet to think about. My vendors were all on the same page without me having to update everyone. On the day of the wedding Lisa was punctual and available for all needs. When my guest and bridal party realized they were unable to ask me questions, they informed me that Lisa was always present and able to step right in. She was very good in keeping to the timeline and making sure we didn't stray too far from it to maximize everything that we had planned for the night. She also made sure to grab food for me during cocktail hour and during our late night snack! And pack everything nicely for me to at the end of the night for me to easily take home. I initially contacted Lisa for consultation (FREE!) and was seriously impressed by her deep industry knowledge and connections, as well as her attention to details. She is so sweet, kind and also such a go getter. I hired Lisa to be our day-of coordinator (DOC) and all I did was to share a list of items I needed to get done on our wedding day and went over the list with her over the phone. We did not get to meet up beforehand, nor we needed to! On the big day, Lisa showed up early, organized everything perfectly, checked off all the items on my list, even handled quite a few crisis on my behalf! She functioned much more than a DOC and exceeded my expectations. Our wedding couldn't be more perfect, thanks to Lisa and her superb coordinations amongst various of vendors. Lisa did such an excellent job planning our wedding. She is very detail-oriented and the timeline she planned was very effective. With that well-planned timeline, everything was on track on that day and it just went so smoothly...I couldn't have picked a better wedding planning company. She knew the flow of the wedding and she knew what to do to make a wedding look elegant and run flawlessly. We planned to have a tea ceremony in the bridal room. After Lisa arrived, she checked the room but found there was no table and chairs for the tea ceremony. She talked with the hotel manager initiatively and asked for an elegant table and two sofas delivered to my bridal room. She even brought a flower with a vase on the table, which was a great touch to our tea ceremony and our photos. With her help, our tea ceremony was conducted on time and it was a very touching moment for us and our parents. Besides, she looked for the best spot for our first look spot, cued DJ, helped with group photos, moved guest book and gifts to reception room and so much more. She not only did all her job, she also helped other vendors. She put all the boutonnieres on groomsmen. She picked up all the petals on the grass after the ceremony. She helped with the breakdown and collected trash that was left on the ceremony and reception. She went above and beyond her job. We had a great wedding, our parents and friends were all very happy.
