The biggest hurdle of our planning process was probably the fact that I was 2,000 miles away in Georgia, from our wedding venue in Los Gatos. Lorraine was super flexible and was great when it came to communication. I emailed her on MULTIPLE occasions freaking out about the smallest details of the wedding and Lorraine was able to resolve my erratic concerns not only professionally, but also in a long-time-BFF kind of way. Lorraine is the most down-to-earth wedding planner I've encountered (and trust me, I consulted with many) that is also SUPER organized. I didn't have to worry about a thing! If I had any questions regarding budget, timeline, deadlines, etc, all I had to do was ask her and she would have the answer for me. Lorraine did everything in her power to make my wedding day and the days leading up to the wedding, go as smoothly and stress-free as possible. Now moving onto the actual wedding day. Oh boy, was I a wreck. I started to panic probably a full 48 hours before the big day. In hindsight, that was such a waste of my time and energy, because everything went just as planned. And the DETAILS! I was totally off wedding-mode the last few months of the planning process and trusted Lorraine with all the details. This is a very unusual thing for me to do because I like to know everything that will happen, down to every last little detail. Theresa was professional, organized, and really helpful in communicating with our vendors. She was also flexible and attended our reception walk-through and wedding rehearsal on two separate days (usually done on the same day). So, we brought in nearly everything from rented linens and plates, to catering, to a mobile bar. Needless to say, there was a million moving parts and small details to wrangle. She is immensely experienced and has a unique sense of space due to her prior career as an architect. She didn't miss one single detail, kept us on time, and made us feel calm and at ease the whole time. We were originally going to pursue day-of-coordination but ended up opting for Janette's month of package and we are SO glad we did. Janette truly goes above and beyond for her clients. She drove to our house the week of the wedding and picked up a truckload of items, including my wedding dress (which she steamed and brought to the venue for me), all of our DIY'ed décor, all of our charcuterie food for the cocktail hour, and more. Her team completely took care of all the set up and breakdown and even dropped off all of our stuff at our Airbnb at the end of the night while we were out at the after party with our friends.

Overall, what my spouse and I wanted from a good wedding coordinator was to have someone to handle setup, and when things went wrong, to handle them without involving us. Janette (and her team at Events by the Bay) largely delivered this, and we appreciated her support with our wedding. There were enough weird moments that this teeters between 3-3.5 stars. The good: - Janette was super helpful in planning, helping us make decisions, figuring out our reception layout, creating and running a timeline. It was so helpful to be able to bounce ideas off of her, get advice, and check that our thoughts and plans made sense and were feasible. - Janette and her team mostly got everything (including tables, chairs, floral installations, and other decorations) set up and arranged without us or our families needing to handle it, which was a huge load off and allowed us to relax and be present. - she got us a FANTASTIC discount on rented items from Chairs4Events - likely saved us around $1,000 between her vendor discount and lower delivery fees by having her handle delivery instead of C4E - Janette and her team mostly handled the couple of day-of snags that happened during the wedding and reception, without us having to get too involved. - Her florals were gorgeous, matched what we asked for, were delivered effectively, and were very competitively priced. - Very competitive pricing for planning services as well. The left-to-be-desired: - Janette didn't answer her phone at multiple points when we needed her on the day of the wedding. Understandable not to be taking calls from other clients while working, but at two separate times times we (the couple) or our families needed to reach her because something was going wrong or we needed her assistance, and she just didn't pick up, even after multiple calls. Not the biggest deal, but we really expected to be able to reach our coordinator during the wedding if we needed her, especially since she gave her phone number to our families to reach out if they needed anything. She also apparently left the reception early without telling anyone (except maybe her own team), we just noticed that she'd gone. - Decor packup was chaotic and frustrating. First, Janette's assistant, Izzy, tried to pressure us to take our decor home at the end of the night, but we had already confirmed multiple times with Janette and her team that her team would pack everything up and we would pick it up from her the next day. To her credit, Izzy eventually did figure out a way to take our items back with her so we didn't have to. But then, it turned out they left almost a quarter of our decor items at the reception venue, and they made no effort to facilitate getting them back to us. Instead, it was on us to go back to the venue to pick up the rest of our items. - There were a few uncomfortable moments for us as a queer/LGBTQ couple. One planning document we received misgendered my spouse repeatedly throughout (though Janette did apologize for this after I pointed it out), and there were a number of times where we felt like Janette's expectations of wedding norms were pushing us into gendered boxes that didn't fit us very well. We asked at the start of the planning process to generally avoid terms like "bride" and "groom" for both of us, and that was only sometimes respected.

One Final Touch was hired to coordinate our wedding day, provide hair and make-up for my MOH and me, and play music. Vilma is incredibly professional, sweet, and on point. She helped me with a very difficult vendor leading up to the day, and proved to be a serious expert on the day of. When we were waiting after the ceremony, she brought us plates of food and drinks, she applied touch up makeup when I needed it, handled a chair shortage in no time, and kicked out a creepy drunk guy who was not welcome. She kept us on time for every piece of the timeline but it felt comfortable and flowing, not rushed at all. Jen who is charge of hair and make-up did an incredible job. she is super knowledgeable, very accommodating and incredibly sweet. I can't say enough about how happy I am we hired Jen along with the planning and music services. Ron played our desired songs and mixed in some requests plus other tracks based on the mood of the moment. People told us all day long how amazing the selections were. We asked for a mix of nu jazz, samba, hip hop, Motown, etc. Ron hit the nail on the head!!! He's also got a great sense of humor which totally came out when he was on the mic. Leading up to the wedding, Lindsay was so thorough and detailed and made sure to cover everything I did not know even needed to be covered - from placing our custome table numbers (also giving advice on what to use in case of strong winds), lighting our candles, tying the rose petal cones to the chairs, and tons of reception layout drafts. She asked many questions to make sure she understood what we were envisioning and had the most detailed notes I had ever seen! At the same time, she continued answering my 1000000 questions with lots of reassurance that everything will be more than OKAY. Even when we got scammed by a vendor, she was so empathetic and assisted us in what actions to take and other vendors we can look into!
