Review long overdue, but thank you to Dr. Bloomingcamp and her staff for a wonderful experience! I used to go to Costco, but so glad I took the leap to go here. You get what you pay for and if you have insurance it'll likely cover most of the cost here anyway so I'd say make an appointment. My vision is awful and I always hate doing the vision tests, but Dr. Bloomingcamp was encouraging and understanding which made me feel at ease. I got a new pair of glasses and FINALLY have contacts that don't move around on my eye because of my astigmatism. Also, trying on glasses was wonderful too because she really listened to the style I wanted and picked glasses that work for my face shape. 10/10 highly recommended! read more

Super upset. Scheduled an appointment here for my husband and have VSP insurance. I was supposed to be charged a copay for $10. My husband came home having paid $49 all because they had him do a retinal scan WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO BE OPTIONAL. Instead of informing him that it is an extra service they did it in place of dilation and made it mandatory. I just took my Father in Law to Costco optical and paid $59 for everything including dilation. So what is the point of me having great eye insurance? Nothing apparently They should be up front and told us they weren't dilating eyes and that they were using this extra machine which is not covered by insurance. Also, I verified with VSP on this service and was confirmed by them that it is an OPTIONAL service. Me and my family will not be coming back here because of the deceiving practices. read more

I came in on a whim, just expecting to browse frames but had a private eye glasses fitting (which was something I've never had before but was so great!) I didn't have an appt but the were able to fit me in. I had my one year old with me and what could have been a disaster of an appt, ended up being very peaceful thanks to their books for children in the front. Just a quick review of my latest encounter with the office. 3 stars for the Doctor and the lovely office building. Dr. Bloomingcamp is very personable and I thought the glasses she prescribed, while expensive, were acceptable quality. They do require lots of adjustments to stay in the right place. Should an expensive pair need that? But, when I came in for an adjustment, the front office failed to tell me I was due for a yearly check-up. Could have combined the appointments :( Lastly, the office took my new insurance info and said they would call with appointment info. Fast forward two weeks... no call. I can only assume they don't want my new insurance, or maybe it's me personally. Either way, unprofessional business practice when you are responsible for someone's quality of vision. read more

It has been a year since I have been to Bloomingcamp but Im still so excited so I decided to write a review. First, I found the optometrist through YELP! The receptionist is wonderful, the doctor is wonderful, and the selection & prices are wonderful. i have never been to an eye doctor, or any doctor for that matter that was so personable! They are very thorough & did tests I had never even heard of or seen. i have to admit I was impressed & I really felt taken care of! I am visiting a friend in Livermore, Ca this week I am here from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I mistakenly dropped my glasses on the floor and stepped on them. I was panicked since they are the transition lens for in the sun that I need since my right eye is sensitive to light from having Bell's Palsy. I found Bloomingcamp Optometrist when stopping in the Livermore Valley Florist and one of the salesperson mentioned them. My sister and I walked there from the florist went inside explaining my situation to the receptionist she took them and the manager said she would see if she could straighten without breaking since the arms are wire. The best. Super thorough, treats you like a human being, explains what they are doing and why, and answers questions with ease and care. I've had corrective lenses since first grade, contacts since I was a teen, and am now of the age where progressives are a necessity. I've been to many eye professionals. They really are the best. I read through the negative reviews and I've never had an experience like that, here, and neither has anyone I've personally referred. This year marks my second year seeing Dr. Boe at this office. I can not say enough good things about the office. Dr. Boe is so friendly and really knows what she is doing. I am extremely near sighted and she consistently is able to get my contact lens prescription perfectly. She also discovered that I am a little bit near sighted and has been able to prescribe computer/reading glasses to help eliminate eye fatigue and headaches after a long day at work. The ladies working the front desk are also fabulous. They are great about scheduling appointments that work for my schedule and are very prompt and knowledgeable when it comes to discussing my eye insurance. If you're looking for a new eye doctor, don't walk--run to Bloomingcamp Optometry and ask for an appointment with Dr. Boe--she rocks! P.S. Dr. Bloomingcamp is really, really great, so much so that I feel guilty for writing a negative review given how much I like her. She's patient, thorough, friendly, well qualified, and even put up with my toddler when I had to bring him to an appointment last year. My negative review is due to two experiences. First, a couple years ago, I ordered and received glasses that made me feel dizzy and like I was floating. Dr. Bloomingcamp checked the prescription and it seemed to be correct, but for whatever reason they weren't sitting right. I was told to keep wearing them, that my eyes would adjust. They never did adjust and I ended up at the ER with the a horrible migraine, which I suspect was caused by the glasses. Dr. Bloomingcamp tried her darndest to get the glasses to work - she sent the lenses back several times for adjustment - but they were never able to get them right. It sounds like the frame was not appropriate for the type of lenses I use, but if that's the case, they should have known that from the beginning, or at least corrected their error, right? I ended up having to buy a new set of glasses, which I had to pay for separately, and I was never refunded for the original pair. My second complaint is regarding their pricing. I've been wearing contacts for eight years. I've been going to Bloomingcamp for several years. My last exam was 1/2013, so with it being 4/2014, it's been one year and a three months. I no longer have insurance. To get more contacts, I was told that I'd have to pay $150 for an exam and $75-$150 for a contact fitting. Really?? I guess I understand the exam, but I've never had a problem with these contacts, and I've seen Dr. Bloomingcamp several times. Does she really need to make sure they fit again? Can't I just let her know if they're not working out as expected? They were unwilling to budge on this, even after I explained that I don't have insurance and that $150 + $75-$150 + $50/case of contacts was going to be really difficult. I called Murietta Optometry, who has a comparable reputation in Livermore, and not only was I able to get an appointment much sooner (tomorrow vs. next week), but they will only charge $90 for the exam and $50 for the contact evaluation. That's $100-$175 less than Bloomingcamp. They said that as long as I stick with the same brand of contacts, and assuming I don't have any problems, that's all the medical portion cost. If I have any trouble with the contacts, then yes, I'll pay for another appointment. But that's only if I need extra medical care - that seems to make a lot more sense than proactively charging me $75-$150 for a fitting that I most likely don't need. read more

We must have gone through about half the inventory in her store before finding the perfect pair! I've been a patient of Dr. Bloomingcamp for three years now. I use both glasses and contact lenses, so I've seen her at work with both. First, she has a very friendly, bright personality; it's really a pleasure to work with her when going through the various steps of an examination. More importantly, perhaps, is her dedication to getting the very best solution for her patient's problem. The first time I visited her to get a new prescription for contacts, we spent maybe six weeks and four visits to get the perfect match for my eyes. This was not because she was slow, busy, or incompetent--it was because she insisted on getting the perfect lenses for _each_ of my eyes--which took several weeks of testing at home for fit and vision, and tests in her office to make comparisons. I finally ended up getting two types of lenses-one type for each eye--and used them until the present. My prescription has changed in the time since, so we're going through the process again, though I suspect it will go faster this time, because the first sets of lenses work so well. Dr. Bloomingcamp is familiar with a very wide variety of contact lens types and brands, and her knowledge of lenses and frames for glasses is equally broad. She uses two labs to produce lenses and the special coatings for them, which she has picked based on over ten years experience working with them and evaluating their product. Dr. Bloomingcamp uses perhaps the most modern equipment in her office, and she doesn't cut corners in finding the most cutting-edge solutions for her patients. Finally, her administrative staff is well acquainted with major insurers and automated payment/billing systems. What can I say that hasn't been already said about this wonderful optometry office? Nothing, the office is homey and comfortable, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Dr. Bloomingcamp is a star. She is friendly, caring and thorough. I am blind as a bat and we worked on getting the best type of material for my coke bottle sized prescription possible. She even sent back a pair because after trying them out they weren't right. Yeah, she wasn't dismissive and say "oh, you'll get used to them", she checked up on me and when I wasn't crazy about the correction I received she rechecked the prescription and the grinding of the lenses and found an error the grinder had made. She worked me with me to get the best lenses possible. She also knows her contact lenses, she helped my daughter, who has a scar on her cornea to find the best type of contact lenses for her eyes. What a sweet deal. Dr. Bloomingcamp and the receptionist are the only professionals that work in the optometry office. There are no technicians or opticians. Dr. Bloomingcamp takes you personnally through all of the preliminary eye exams, a very thorough eye health/vision exam and assists you with frame and lens selection HERSELF. An awesome experience, she's a very professional, knowledgeable optometrist. And, amazingly enough--she does not charge for the retinal scan. My previous optometrists (2) charged $35. I have been wearing contacts and glasses since I was a teenager. In all my years getting examined by a variety of eye doctors, I have never encountered a doctor more diligent, caring and thorough as Dr. Bloomingcamp. From my initial visit, she did a very complete eye examination, never settling for inconsistent results. I wanted contacts, but wasn't sure which type. She told me that hard contact lenses were uncomfortable at first, but with time would get more comfortable. She was right. Whenever I had an issue, I was able to make a quick appointment and her staff is very accommodating. Other doctors have always pushed soft contact lenses on me, even though I couldn't see very well with them. Dr. Bloomingcamp explained what my options were and reasons why certain contact lenses didn't work for my type of prescription. She always made sure to check and re-check, so the fit and numbers came out perfect. I referred my husband to her and we will continue visiting her even when our family grows. I also purchased glasses from her. Her staff was very helpful in picking out a stylish design for my skin color and face shape. Dr. Bloomingcamp was very thorough but I won't be going back here because their support staff completely sucks. The surly woman who handles their billing completely screwed things up with my insurance company. She was completely unhelpful when I initially purchased my glasses so it's not surprising that this practice has been going back and forth with my insurance company for months now without getting things resolved. In the meantime, they are sending me random bills for things that my insurance company will cover in full. It's definitely not worth the hassle for me to go here again--lot's of other optometrists are out there with competent staff. read more

Dr. Bloomingcamp and her staff kick butt! I started going to her a little over a year ago and have been very pleased. Her office is very friendly and inviting. I have never had to wait more than a few minutes for my appointment and that really makes a difference when you are used to 15 minutes sitting in a waiting room with old magazines, wondering why you were in such a hurry to get there. Dr. Bloomingcamp gave me the most thorough exam I've ever had and she was very patient when it came time to teach me the ways of contact lenses. Turns out contact and I aren't going to be together anytime soon but I do have a lot to say about eye wear. This office is has a great selection of frames and they had a lot of fun and contemporary styles that made it easy for someone as picky as myself to find a match with ease. I don't know how much control this office has over the production at the lab they use, but they get your lenses back fast. I haven't had to wait more then two days, that's fast! That factor might not matter to some but it did for me when my prescription changed in a month and my back ups were pretty much useless. read more

When my employer began offering vision coverage every optometrist in Livermore was covered. So I visited each one and Dr. Bloomingcamps' office was the only one I felt really cared about my needs. I have a giant head and choosing glasses is always a chore for me. After an hour of trying on frames and looking through catalogs without success I left a little let down. They did say if I found anything online they would be happy to order frames for me until I was satisfied. Nothing but greatness!! I went in with an emergency. Someone had stepped on my glasses and my frame split in so many pieces. It was a Friday afternoon and I was in full panic. I didn't have the cash flow to just go to Lenscrafters and spend $500 for them to get me new glasses. I have heard bad experiences. The eye doctor I usually go and see was closed for training. Livermore Optometry. Glad they were because I would have never found Bloomingcamp! When I called the doctor actually spoke to me on the phone and made me feel alot at ease. After an hour in the office she set me up with contacts in the meantime until my appointment on Monday. She actually took the time to sit there with me and show me how to put them in. I have never seen this anywhere else. The office is such a small personable staff that it makes you feel right at home. I am very pleased that I had found at last such a nice a knowledgeable optometrist. Dr.Bloomingcamp is not only a pleasure to talk with, she is very patient in explaining everything. And she will give you all options to choose from or detailing your situation very clearly. She does it in very pleasant way, taking a time to explain and not down talk at all. And nobody before told me that my insurance will cover me additional pair of glasses for computer use! And how helpful they turned out to be! I am working more that eight hours sitting in front the computer screen and making a lot of graphics work. So for me those glasses are proved to be very useful and my eyes do not feel that tired after hard-working day. Recently I ordered also contact lenses. And dr.Bloomingcamp spend a lot of time checking and making sure that the chosen contact lenses fit mine eyes perfectly. And in the end I was given two different brands for free to wear for a week. As I couldn't choose which feel better - they both seemed fit good. And now I have a cool glasses I wear every day; very nice and useful glasses I wear when working, and contact lenses which are very comfortable when I go to the gym! I am so happy :-) Also Jackie, front office assistant, is so nice and is meticulous in verifying all insurance payments and making sure that all possible discounts can be applied.
