We tried calling several times throughout the day to notify FARM that we needed to change the reservation because two of our guests were ill and would not be able to join. The restaurant's phone just kept forwarding to voicemail. We arrived at our reservation time and were told that we would be charged via OpenTable for the guests who did not join. When I mentioned the phone issue, the hostess said that it did not matter if we had called today, because the cancellation policy is 24 hours in advance. I did not know they would be ill 24 hours prior to the reservation - but whatever. I was not happy, but did not argue the issue. We were seated, only to find that there was a prefix "Valentine's Day Menu". We thought that was interesting because we had researched the website & menu before the evening, and there was no mention of this menu being the only option for Friday (2/13) night. Even the menu PDF says "Valentine's Day" - there were signs throughout the restaurant noting "Valentine's Day Menu". The server also mentioned that many other patrons were upset. The items on the menu were also priced far higher than the regular menu. So, we were excited to try FARM, arrived to a very sassy attitude (from the host) about the party size, noting that I was going to be charged. Getting to the table to see a modified menu, whose prices were jacked up. The (very sweet) server validated our feelings and confirmed that other patrons were upset, too. We finally just decided to leave. On the way out, the "sassy" host was snarky and mentioned that we would likely be charged again for the remaining guests leaving and not eating. I have pictures of the signs, and screenshots of the website - and I dare FARM to charge me for their false advertising. At least note the website, signage, and OpenTable if you are following modified menus or processes, and train your team better!! We were thrilled to try FARM, and left saying that we would NEVER go back. So disappointed :(

Going on a Tuesday provided the opportunity to order a weekly special of crawfish etouffee. To their credit, the crawfish themselves were cooked perfectly and flavorful. However, the first red flag was that it was far too dark (with a gumbo-like color, rather than the blond-brown of a proper etouffee), and when I tasted it, I was shocked that it simply tasted burnt. That they'd overdo a roux like this and then serve it (especially on a special that they could've just taken off the menu) is genuinely shocking.

Becky loved the red trees around the lake, but still let me take the seat with the window view for breakfast.. She's a wonderful gal! The menu was small, which was good, because, I forgot my reading glasses! I ordered the Biscuits &Gravy but Becky got the Classic egg Breakfast, with Eggs, Potatoes, Toast and Sauaage. The ratio of Gravy to my Buiscuts could use improvement, but the taste was pretty good. Becky loves a good breakfast Potatoe and she said "The Potatoes we're the Star of the Show!!". West Baden has now become a regular family destination. My family -- plus my mom, stepdad, siblings…read moreand their families -- just finished our second trip here. And it's safe to say that West Baden is now a family tradition. My parents spent a few days there to celebrate their anniversary, and then the kids all came to stay the last night, during Easter weekend. And we made the most of it. We started with bowling and pizza at the new Ballard's at the Atrium (see my review on that). My older niece then watched all the kids in one of the hotel rooms, while the adults got a drink in the expansive atrium and enjoyed looking up at the picturesque dome ceiling. The next morning, which was Easter, we found a quiet sitting area on our floor to have an Easter egg hunt with all the kids. These are memories we will cherish. We popped over to French Lick for brunch, though the Easter brunch set up in the atrium definitely looked delicious too. The staff is always excellent. We were able to call and get all of our rooms next to each other, which helped. Thanks for another fabulous mini-vacation, West Baden!

For a property seeming to target the upper middle market, I think there is a lot of value. They have many free amenities that most no longer do - no resort fee, no parking fee, free shuttle to the sister hotel and downtown. Add in amenities closer to a luxury property - evening music, nice indoor pool almost always open, and obviously just being in the unique dome... This is a winner. We found the service to be consistently friendly. We had no issues with getting help for our large amount of stuff at check in or check out. Very nice to our dog and he got a lot of treats for the pet fee. Dining service was on the slower side but seemed to fit the vibe. We stayed in a suite with two queens. It was large. The furniture was on the worn side but well maintained. Nice to see unique furnishings vs generic all white everywhere. Plenty for the kids to do. We enjoyed the newly restored bowling alley and found it nicer than the same priced one at French Lick Hotel. We did like going to French Lick for the shopping and to read about the history. There is a lot about the history everywhere, including the small museum (a large room) in the hotel. We were very happy and would like to return.

The waitstaff seemed very confused by us wanting hot tea. However, I had a very upset stomach within 2 hours. Once we sat down we were greeted and our drink orders. Then we checked out the buffet, and for a buffet, it is pretty tasty! I had a salad, polenta, pasta, and some chicken (I didn't have breakfast, please don't judge) and I loved that they had tiny desserts, cheese cakes, and other tasty treats! I enjoyed myself, so did my IU student, I hope I had the opportunity to treat more of my students to a meal here during their time as IU students.

The rooms have been remodeled (although the paint on the wall of one room was peeling). Check in and out is quick and easy. The restaurant is seasonal so it was closed this last visit. The previous visit, the food was good and priced well. The staff accommodated 50 of us with no problem. As the property is adjacent to the marina, access is easy. There is an indoor pool as well. There are restaurants off site close by (I recommend the golf course). I would definitely recommend a lakeside room for a great view.

It is incredibly discouraging to see such a massive discrepancy between the online policy and the actual service. I'm giving a star because the atmosphere seemed lovely, but the lack of clear communication and the cold reception made for a very sad end to a long journey. The owners seemed to be the only two working - the husband serving / bussing / hosting / and checking out. The wife was the one cooking and also serving on occasion. The teamwork between the two was absolutely amazing. It was also adorable to watch them work together, speaking in French, and being oh so charming. On Sundays they do not have a menu. They ask you if there is any food you don't eat / are allergic to and then they bring out the food. I'm not really sure what any of the things I ate were - but I didn't taste anything that wasn't scrumptious. My favorite was the phyllo pastry during the first course. It was buttery and rich and melted in your mouth. I believe it was filled with cheese. The inside is decorated with cute, French posters and artwork. As you walk in, you can see the kitchen in the back. It would be nice to have a board during brunch that says what is contained in each course - mainly because I would love to know what the phyllo dish was called ! Would definitely go back - every Sunday if I could !
