Bloomsbury Books is a wonder shop that has a library books for every reader. It's an amazing spot with an upstairs cafe with beer and wine and tasty treats. The amazing librarians or book hosts were amazing and sweet. They answered any questions we had and it was very much appreciated. Also they allow dogs inside so if your dog is well mannered then bring them along and see if they want to get a book too. Their books are amazingly organized and you can find what you're looking for from kids, educative, cooking , horror, fantasy allAt wonderful pricing. Finishing up my Xmas shopping popped in for the last bits. Santa books. When our kids were little Santa left books at the foot of the bed so they could unwrap and stay in bed and read until it was at least 7am. Well, 20 and 22 and we're still doing it. I needed a couple of recommendations and could not have been happier to have help from the staff. Kind, knowledgeable and chock full of fantastic ideas. What I thought would be me meandering the aisles for hours (not that I don't love to do that, I just couldn't today) turned into a quick amazing process. If I could give 10 I would. A very homey cozy bookstore! I miss going into a bookstore and not having harsh industrial lights pointed at me. This bookstore was exactly what I needed. I got two new books from here. They had a great selection and even had a cute coffeeshop on the second level. Highly recommend! read more

Gayle and I stopped in a couple times to look over the magazine rack, ponder some cool art cards, check out current releases, peruse the Travel section, admire the wall art in the coffee shop, and consider up coming author readings. Great bookstore. Right on the main drag throng Ashland. Hard to miss. Staff was helpful and the shop was well staffed without being invasive. Talked to the register attendant about children's books, a little know Michael Pollan talk, and about bees. The store was light and bright and that had a selection beyond "Best Sellers". The cafe upstairs make great coffee and delectable treats. Comfy seating inside and You have to sit in the upstairs back garden as well. Fine place to rest of ruminate after a morning or afternoon of shopping to touring. Gladly spent my money and time here on books, coffee, and a cookie. read more

Loved this book store - they did a great job with the layout, staff picks, new releases, etc. I will say that the business section upstairs left a lot to be desired as it was sparse and some books that were so old. We also noticed a lot of dust on books that seemingly must've been on the shelf for a while. read more

Don't you love walking into a bookstore, asking the clerk about some obscure title and, he not only knows exactly which book you're looking for, he has it in stock and shows you the other titles by the same author that are also available? This quaint little shop is well lit, neatly organized, pleasantly decorated, not too crowded and not too spare. The children and teen sections are adequately stocked, and the latest bestsellers to classic favorites are all there and available. What I would've appreciated was a little more time and perhaps somewhere in the shop I could sit to linger over a page or two of my next favorite book that I simply haven't read yet. read more

A secret garden cafe is part of the charm of this great bookstore. Only 1/2 a block from the Ashland Springs Hotel. They have sandwiches, quiche, and a featured salad plus coffee drinks and pastries for breakfast or an afternoon break. Casual and inexpensive plus you can browse for books downstairs. My husband loved the Chile Relleno quiche and I had the quinoa salad which was fresh and delicious. We are planning on heading back tomorrow morning for a cappuccino and pastries. read more

Beat bookstore in Ashland! The selection is great, reviews and the people that work there are great!

Very nice bookstore in the old school vein. It's all new books, but they have a good selection. . Be sure to go upstairs where there is a coffee nook and some more books. It's definitely old school and a lot of fun, gives me a flashback to bookstores I knew in the 80s! Also, friendly and knowledgeable staff. If you have wheels, and can get away from the touristy downtown core, go to the Bookwagon in Ashland. The Bookseller there buys and sells old books and he sells new books at 20% off. He can also order new books, or any book for that matter, for you at a discount. Why pay full retail? I personally sell my used books to The Bookwagon, and enjoy the pricing there! read more

Great locally owned bookstore. Even though my thrifty nature leads me to the Book Exchange, Bloomsbury is an excellent source for new books. We were visiting Ashland for tattoos and my daughter was looking to replace her journal. The tattoo artist (Universal Rites) recommended Bloomsbury - so that's where we went. Had I realized there was a coffee shop, I would have saved my $$ at the 'chain coffee shop' and bought one at Bloomsbury's. At any rate, my daughter didn't find the kind of journal she was looking for, but she also looked for books by a specific (eclectic) author. The gentleman at the cashier desk was very friendly in helping her, suggesting like/similar authors she may also find interesting. I love Bloomsbury! I wanted to buy Andre Iguadala's book, "The Sixth Man", but not from Amazon. I checked the book table at Costco and they didn't have it. I decided to call Bloomsbury to see if they had it since we were driving up here Monday. They didn't, but it was on order, due the week before I arrived. I asked if they'd hold it and they would. They didn't need my credit card number to hold it. I came in Tuesday and was pleasantly surprised to find it was 25% off because it was on the New York Times bestseller list. Score! read more

You say cafe, I say coffeehouse....This place is wonderful! I was there last week as a break from watching some plays. Truly a find! The bookstore was a treat to find and the upstairs caf area was delightful though I actually would rather say that it has more of a coffee house. Anyway, the upstairs outside patio area is tucked away from passers-by so that you can have a private journal writing session or just sip some delicious coffee and a tasty baked delight in your own space. The people that work there are also super nice. I rarely give the 5 star award but this one gets it hands down. By the way, they have a great selection of veggie/vegan/raw food books as well agriculture, farming and gardening books and resources. Great place for meandering and spending an entire afternoon into the evening. Alone or in good company. read more

One of my favorite stores in all of Ashland. I've been coming here for twenty years and hope to be coming for at least twenty more. Not only do they have your standard offerings and best sellers but a wide range of books suited to the "feel" of the community. There are great selections on gardening, philosophy, religion, cooking and of course Shakespeare. In addition the magazine rack is full of titles not found elsewhere (including the big name "stores"). read more

A great bookstore to browse around! I love stopping in here when I'm in town. The staff is really great and helpful and they had a fun promotion for a while called a blind date with a book where the books are cutely wrapped with a description of genre, time period, and a few key words. Wonderfully curated collection of books, gifts, and postcards. The biggest problem was choosing what to buy. I loved the magazine collection and found some older Tin House and McSweeney collectios on another rack, so keep looking. Great gifts as well and I got a few literature presents for my nieces and nephews. They have a coffee shop upstairs that looked cut, but no public bathrooms limited my stay. read more

I love this book shop. It's definitely for the tourists, but it's nice. The people who work here are nice, as well. One of them is actually a regular at MY work, lol. Every time I get a book, he'll tell me what he thinks of it, or what his partner thought of it, which is cool! I like when people tell me stuff like that. They aren't a used book store, that's for sure. It's basically Barnes & Noble pricing here; the typical 25-30$ for a new hardcover book, which honestly... I can't justify spending that much on a book, unless it's something I REALLY want. I also will get the occasional gift for my dad. He's one of those brand-new-book wanting people. They have a nice little shelf that has new releases that are 20 or 25% of, which is nice. I got Bryan Cranston's and Phil Knight's autobiographies with that discount. I was stoked. They do have a pleasant little coffee shop just upstairs of the actual book store part of the building. I'm not a coffee person, and when I am, I prefer Starbucks. So, I have not purchased anything from up there. They do have some kid's books up there, too. Overall, this is a nice little place if you're looking for a nice gift for someone, or just want a new book, or even just want somewhere to hang out and read or write/do homework. read more
