My fiance found this place on Yelp while we were running errands in Hingham. We went in and they had large family style serving bowls and platters of food behind a glass window. Everything looked fresh and delicious, but I was having a difficult time deciding on something because outside of the many vegetable dishes, most things had cheese. (Being dairy free is tough, but far better than the alternative!) The woman who was helping us was amazing, and was very patient in making recommendations and asking the chef about ingredients so that I would enjoy my decision rather than regretting it. I ended up with the The Butcher and he got The Cubano, after the woman (the owner?) recommended it. He also ordered the Nucoise salad. The food was great! The Butcher comes on a very fresh, crusty bread, and the meats, basil olive oil, pickles and baked cherry tomatoes were the perfect balance of flavors. While the meats were salty, the bread and vegetables evened it out nicely. I was very happy! They also serve Spindrift flavored seltzer, which I thought was a nice touch, being they are a very high quality seltzer and they are local to Massachusetts. I had the orange mango, which was refreshing. I still like the cucumber best. He loved his food, and we mostly ate in silence outside of the occasional "wow" or "this is so good!" The employees passed out samples of one of their gourmet cheese, which everyone said were delicious, I wished I could have tried a taste! Afterward, we tried the banana foster cupcake. I'm glad we split it because we were already satisfied and it was pretty rich. But, wow! It was delicious. It was almost like a banana bread muffin with a sweet, creamy, magical frosting on top. He said it was probably the best cupcake he had ever eaten! They also sell many interesting and high quality food items, such as crackers, biscuits, chocolates and red sauces that I am interested to go back and buy. Whoa, I'm addicted to great brie, so the chance to go to an eating place called Bloomy Rind was irresistible. Just in case you're wondering, a bloomy rind is the soft white covering made by the Penicillium camemberti fungus and you find it on cheeses like brie and Camembert. Hey, why can't a Yelp review be educational as well as informational? The place is kind of like a little French bistro, but since I've never been to one and only seen them in the movies, I can't be 100% sure. The display area dominates and there is sitting space for about 8-10 people. The obvious star of the place is the food. It's fantastic. They have stacks of these wonderful little sandwiches as well as a wide variety of larger sandwiches and all sorts of other mouth-watering foods, such as the fattoush salad and country pate (pate de campagne for you Francophiles). The Cubano sandwich is killer with generous slices of meat melted together with cheese on kickass bread. The chocolate chip cookies are a must-eat, and everything else I've tried there has been top-notch, which is what you'd expect from Chef Robert Gonsalves who has cooked at notable restaurants such as L'Espalier and Olives. One thing to be aware of is that if you're going to order the Cubano or other hot-pressed (i.e. Panini-style) sandwiches, you're going to have to wait for several minutes because they don't pre-make them. A quality sandwich requires a little patience, and if you're in a rush, they have the mini prepared sandwiches at the very front of the display counter. But the other stars that make the place special is the chef's wife Mary and the rest of the staff. Mary seems to be everywhere at once as she runs the front of the place and is quick to welcome people as well as give them free samples of all sorts of cheeses and other foods. That's how I got hooked on a brie-like cheese called Harbison. As another patron said, "It's like brie on steroids." But a warning that if you want the full splendor of this cheese to come through, you have to warm it to room temp and scoop it out of its bark container because at room temp it's a bit runny. Btw, they have a great cheese selection and Mary is kind of like a cheese encyclopedia. So, you can learn a lot about the cheeses they sell. They say that you can always tell a great business by its employees, and it's abundantly clear that Mary and Robert run a strong ship because all the employees I've met there so far (Jessica, Paula, Betsy, and Kelly) have been fantastic. They're hard-working, pay attention to detail, and friendly. Who could ask for more? Parking is plentiful. There's parking available right in front of the place, and a huge parking lot behind it. I should warn you to be prepared to spend some money because you can walk in thinking that you're just going to get a sandwich and then walk out with a whole lot more. The food is that good. And if you just don't know where to start when you walk in, just tell them that Mr. Miami sent you, and they'll take care of you. Mary and the staff there were so friendly and very Covid cautious which I appreciated and sure can be a bit difficult in the space they have. I came in on a lunch break from work after reading the Yelp reviews. A cheese shop that also sells sandwiches???? SOLD! I was not sure if I was going to buy any cheese, but I couldn't help gravitating over to the cheese case as soon as I walked in. An employee ran over to help me, gave me a sample of some goat gouda and soon I had a (rather expensive) chunk of it in a bag to go! I also decided to order a sandwich. While waiting, the owner (I think) came out, saw that I was holding cheese and said "Cheese. Is there anything better in life?" These are my people! Pretty sure I could stop the review there and still give it 5 stars, but I will continue. The Mediterranean sandwich was crazy good. Eggplant, zucchini, tomatoes, harissa aioli, hummus and the BEST feta I've ever had on a Syrian wrap. It was also toasted to perfection so the superb feta got a little melty. There are a few tables -- one communal farm table and a few smaller bistro tables, but you are kind of better off getting your sandwiches to go as this place does get crowded and hot. I'll offer instead my blunt thoughts. Mary, the founder of this epicurean oasis, is an amazing hostess. She has an eidetic memory for faces, and will greet you by name every time. Robert is the culinary maestro who invented the finest pate-de-foie I've ever encountered. The Bloomy Rind is a gourmet's Elysium. They're on some supply lists that you can't get on without being friends with the makers. Cheeses from monasteries that only have a limited handful of monks to commit to the process. Unpasteurized olives from farmers who won't sell to anyone they don't know, and which Robert cures and prepares on-site. Salumis, foies des canardes, and other meats straight from the farms. If you find something rare and striking, buy it today - it may soon be gone until the producer finishes more next year. That's the level of quality of goods that Mary and Robert at The Bloomy Rind bring to the table. Chances are, you'll not find it elsewhere. Mary will work with your individual palate, as well, particularly with the cheeses. I'm partial to the full range of flavors, as are my gourmet pals, but my wife finds some of my choices rather striking. Mary caters to the gamut of her patrons' gustatory preferences, however, and even keeps a continuous supply of uncultured "butter buttons" from a local farm, which are sweet cream masquerading as a confection in the shape of a miniature Reese's cup. The Bloomy Rind won't break your bank, either. You can even stop in for a quick mini sandwich to go, and it will be phenomenal for less than four bucks. read more

It's the kind of place where you point at something and you're offered a taste immediately. Mary, the self-described "cheesemonger" is a gem. It's so clear that she loves cheese and she's thrilled to share that love with anybody who appreciates the creamy, the sharp, the stinky and the smoked. She's full of tidbits on why this 18 month, cave-aged cheddar tastes like a 4 year old cheddar, and why you eat the rind on this one "it's where all the flavor is!", but probably don't want to with that one. To round out our antipasti, we also finally found the Culatella proscuitto! Along with a fantastic selection of dried sausages and cured meats. And if that isn't enough, her partner is a formally-trained chef who creates varying sides like the sweet fig-honey spread, carrot hummus, and this savory thing with curry and nuts. Went to visit a friend in North Quincy for lunch yesterday, and she brought me to the Bloomy Rind. I can't rave about this place enough! The staff is wonderful and genuinely friendly, the food is excellent of high quality ingredients, and the owner is incredibly sweet. I had a sandwich with brie, Gouda, and ham (which was wonderful!), and we had figs stuffed with Gorgonzola, wrapped in prosciutto (THESE. EAT THESE.). The owner brought us our sandwiches-- and surprised us with white cherries dipped in chocolate! I was in the middle of shoving my fig in my mouth, but felt the urgent need to express just how happy I was with what I was eating. My mother would've been horrified to catch me talking with my mouth full (and would have smacked me upside the head) but the owner laughed and took my complete and sudden loss of manners dutifully. The interior is lovely, well decorated, and well lit. I know when I walked in I thought "Oh, how pretty!" and then I saw the food. I am pretty serious about cheese. One day while browsing in Hingham center for Christmas gifts it was as if it was meant to be that I stumbled upon a specialty cheese store and cafe. I have found my people!!! Okay, perhaps this is a bit enthusiastic, but these people are just as enthusiastic about cheese as I am. They are very knowledgeable and managed to curate a unique and massive selection of just about any cheese you could imagine (please read: cheese with ground espresso beans). Not to mention, they also have a variety of other items to pair the cheeses with. If you are having a party, they are happy to put together a cheese platter for you! Then, there are the sandwiches. After discovering this gem, my husband and I ventured back to try their lunch. He opted for the "truffle pressed fromage" which was basically a grown ups version of grilled cheese with truffle butter, gouda, brie, fontina and ham. It is easily the best grilled cheese either of us have ever tried! We also split the "Cubano" that was piled high with pork, ham, gouda, sliced pickles, aioli, and mustard and I was pleasantly surprised by the combination of flavors. As if this all isn't enough, their soda selection is nothing to snub your nose at either. All in all, I will continue to travel back here whenever I need a unique gift for a fellow cheese lover. It's a shame that the space isn't larger to eat in, but the staff is so friendly and their food is so good that it won't prevent me coming back for more! read more

The highlight is the prepared food: interesting salads, sandwiches, and desserts using top notch ingredients at prices that would give many other delis a run for their money. However, it is very easy to rack up the bill with impulse purchases of their yummy cheeses. My favorites: Butcher's sandwich (Mortadella, prosciutto, salami, roasted cherry tomatoes, dill pickle in a baguette) and their roast beef sandwich (sliced from a tenderloin roasted on premises).
