Came here while exploring the area. Best decision ever! We arrived about 20 minutes before they closed, but the cheesemongers were so friendly and helpful. They did not rush us off. We got to try and buy some fabulous cheeses and other gourmet products. The shop is well-organized and inviting. I wish I had more time to explore here. BTW, they will ship products, including cheeses, to you in the mail. Are you kidding me?!?!? How awesome is that? The good: Wide selection of cheeses Staff is knowledgable You are given a taste of any cheese you are considering, which makes the experience fun, and really helps in making the decisions Wide selection of non-cheese gourmet items, in case you want to pick up something else while you are there The not-quite-so-good: High prices on the non-cheese items, which I am more familiar with; I can't really comment on the cheese prices as these are clearly specialty cheeses. I noticed that some of the staff were quite friendly and informative, offering plenty of guidance about the cheeses to those who wanted it. However I found that it took a bit more effort to get information from the person who was helping me. Maybe it's just hard to describe cheese and tastes... but I think the ability to do so was better-developed among some staff vs others. Still... There aren't enough superlatives to describe this amazing cheese shop. They have an unbelievable assortment of meat and cheese, a wonderful curated selection of wine, a fantastic assortment of crackers and nuts and other products including french tea towels. The shop was packed when I got there on Saturday afternoon, but I'm glad I made the excursion from Quincy on the way to Andover. There were about a dozen employees working behind the counter cutting cheeses, offering samples, and fulfilling orders for every taste. I was thinking of going back to have them fill a tupperware container with various cuts to take when I travel for Christmas, but I see they do gift shipping around the holidays so I'll be calling on the first of December to place an order for The Big Cheese assortment. The shop smells wonderful, if you are a cheese lover of any degree, and they have a grand selection of wines all along the walls. The staff were very accommodating and efficient, especially for someone in a hurry coming from out of town. I want to go back to see what else is on the street (if it's anything as good as Wasik's) and stop in for some more cheese selections. They specialize in goat's milk cheeses, and I've been very successful making mac 'n cheese out of the stuff, but I wonder if I were to really splurge and try their water buffalo cheese for such a recipe. read more

Of particular interest is their Brillat Savarin, a triple-creme that was really delicious, melt-in-your-mouth style. A clothbound cheddar from Washington state came off as a bit too salty. Go here! They are friendly, knowledgeable and funny...and the samples can't be beat while you look for your perfect cheese. A true delight and wonderful that you can pick up Serrano ham or kielbasa, wine, a pie or fresh bread! The curry cheese spread is amazing as is the house brie, actually everything I've ever bought is delicious. Went in because this shop was recommended by a lady I was talking to at a diner about Cheese. Not from the area she said to take the time out and visit Wasik's Cheese shop. Well we did. Great selection of many things to make a great cheese/antipasto board. Asked specifically about the first prize Oregon blue cheese . Came out with a big wheel of it. Dying to try it because I heard so much about it. Only 60.00 pound. Not bad truly considering a American cheese making first place. Had to try some. Omfg. So the universe wanted me to have cheese and I've made a point of listening to what the universe tells me. Pulling up on the crowded street the three spaces in front of Wasik's opened up at the same time like Moses and the Red Sea, except with was cheese for me. When I walked in a friendly looking gentleman said hello to me and walked past me. This is important. Note it. I gave the woman behind the counter wish washy descriptions about the flavors I wanted in my mouth. Each time the cheese she gave me to try was exactly as I had described. And I bought that cheese without trying another of that variety. Want cookies or crackers? There is a WALL of them. And then I saw these flour less chocolate cookies that looked good so I bought them too. Leaving, I realized the guy who said hi to me was the owner or an employee and not a customer leaving. He locked the door behind me. Apparently they were closing and his that from me so I wouldn't feel rushed. Amazing service. For dinner that night I pretty much had cheese, crackers and cookies. Wasiks is amazing, and has done an excellent job supporting the community during Covid time. On a turn of a dime, they changed their business from an in-person experience (Best in Mass) to an online/phone curbside system. Yet they are still able to provide amazing cheese and wine recommendations, and give lots of personal touches when you pick up. While it is a small creature comfort, having amazing wine and cheese has made being stuck at home a much better time. Really appreciate the Wasik team for going to work and really taking health risks to make a big difference. They are the best!! Really great cheese selection which is great. However as some have wrote here, the owners (and family members) are extremely snobby and treat some customers bad. I heard from friends who had the same experience and who had formerly complained all got nasty and somewhat threatening email responses. Let's see if that happens to me too (and I'll update you here if I do). Take your business somewhere else if you would like to be treated well for the cost you are spending for cheese. A family business in their 42nd year! We just visited last weekend (my first time) and loved this little shop. There was a line outside but it moved quickly enough as they let in two parties at a time. Inside the shop, we were greeted by the friendliest cheese experts who helped me pick out a few delicious cheeses to bring home. They're very, very careful and sectioned off two sections so that the two parties in the store at one time are safely socially distanced. Loved them and will definitely be back! read more

An attribute of great customer service is how an organization responds when it lets it customers down. I wanted to buy a couple bottles of nice wine that I regularly purchase at Wasik's. They weren't available so Carol, the lady who was helping me, was going to order them. Later, she confirmed via email they would be available by a certain day. I came by on that day and the wine wasn't there. I was disappointed. One of the bottles was a gift and I wanted to deliver it that day. Carly profusely apologized. She texted the distributor and they promised it would be delivered that afternoon. I could sense Carol's sincere regret for letting me down. I also caught out of the corner of my eye, Carol (Wasik's matriarch) observing our interaction; her countenenace also conveying sympathy and regret. If my story ended here, as it would with most organizations I've had similar interactions, I'd give Wasik's a B for how they dealt with the situaiton. But it doesn't stop here and this is where it gets interesting. Carly offered to deliver the wine to my house once the shipment arrived at their store. I was impressed. When the wine arrived at my house, one of the bottles was packaged nicely (remember, one bottle was a gift). We also received a small package: 2 cheeses and crackers (I estimate the value at $25). This was a "wow" moment for me. Carol went out of her way to make up for what was in reality a minor customer service issue. Actually, I would say their response was over the top. And it resulted in a wow moment for me. As a result, I upgrade their response from B to A+. While it cost them a bit more time and money to satisfy me, they earned my loyalty, respect, and a whole lot more business in the future. Wasik's defines GREAT customer service. It starts with Carol setting the tone and expectations; it continues with employees embracing and living out the values and expectations; and it ends with happy customers writing a rare gushing review. read more

In my experience, Wasik's one-ups the Somerville Wine and Cheese cask for one reason only: Belgian cheeses. This cute little shop in Wellesley center carries crunchy crostini, European imported desserty snack things, and some kickass Belgian cheese. I brought my friend in here aiming to buy some Chimay, but the woman behind the counter suggested we try something different. Though I don't remember the name, what we sampled and then purchased was a delightfully soft, yet flavorful cheese that packed a certain punch. She explained that it was made by Trappist monks, to which I gleefully responded, "Trappist monks are my heros!" She chuckled, and I walked away impressed by their friendliness and commitment to customer service. These guys are always sampling cheeses, and their dessert/specials board always entices the palate as well. read more

I love Wasik's. In addition to cheese, they have a huge selection of other foods, like artisan pastas (they have a striped lasagna that's out of this world), nearby and faraway gourmet comestibles (their collection of candy from the UK is a welcome sight, as is their local maple syrup), and dried mushrooms (hello, morels by the pound). There's always something new at Wasik's; a few months ago, there were photos of Julia Child for sale! That was really cool. I love cheese, but I can't talk intelligently about it at all. Yet despite this, I have never once encountered a single worker at Wasik's who was anything but kind, cheerful, and incredibly helpful. Try walking into, say, DePrisco's and getting that kind of response! ;) These folks are cheese rockstars. They've helped me to shop by geographical region, by pairing (food and drink that will be served with said cheese), by ingredients (what animal/animals did the milk come from? is the rind herb-crusted?), and by Don't Be A Wuss Just Try This Delicious Thing You Needn't Be Afraid Of We Swear You'll Love It. One of the coolest things about the staff at Wasik's is that they are always genuinely interested in what I'm doing with the foods/ingredients I'm buying. "What's that?" they'll ask when I talk about a dish they've never had, and "oh, you're having THAT? how delicious! enjoy!" when they're caught in the same food reverie that I'm caught in. The Wellesley shopping vibe can be really eye-rolling, but not at Wasik's. The workers are all rockstars. The customers are really neat foodie regulars, who all seem to either know each other or know the cheesemongers, and everyone talks and shares news and there's often a short line and that leaves just enough time to sniff, gawk, and ponder further tasty acquisitions before it's your turn. I think a full 50% of my Wasik's hauls have been the result of waiting in line and accidentally seeing something delicious that I must have. I have to be totally honest: walking down Center Street in Wellesley, you can really tell when you're passing Wasik's because the cheese cave must vent to the outdoors - and it is *such* a cheese cave smell that spills out onto the sidewalk! After I lost my sister in early 2020 and wanted to send my mom something special, since due to COVID I couldn't travel home for Christmas, Brad took the order, overnighted it to Texas and refused to let me pay for it. I HAVE A CHEESE PROBLEM! This is the absolute best cheese shop in the world in my book. My only complaint? It's in Wellesley and there are Wellesley people there, which can equal an uppity visit. Am I uppity? Hell yeah, but I am nice about it, which makes me not as uppity as I could be. And it's spendy, but like all good things, it's worth being broke for. It's the place to go for your holiday treats, good puddings and lots of amazing imported cheese and foods in general. You will wait a while, so make sure you leave lots of time. They are clearly passionate for the cheese they cut (bu dum bum CHING!) and will go out of their way to help you find the cheese of your desire. This is the only cheese shop I will visit in the greater Boston area. Wasik's has been in business since 1964 and my family has been going there for almost as long. Selection is about what one would expect of a specialty store; however, quality, as opposed to quantity or variety is the main emphasis of the store's product line. Be warned...patrons seeking more pedestrian brands may come away disappointed. The domestic cheddars cannot be rivaled by any establishment in New England. Again, it stands out for quality and taste, as opposed to quantity or variety. At the same time, Wasik's offeres a very strong imported selection...especially its French varieties. Not advertised are its cheese spreads, which are great for breads, crackers or as a sweet alternative to dips. More outstanding, however, are its four selections (cellar, French, Italian, and domestic). Selections are groupings of cheeses from a particular region or following a theme. Prices range from $55 to $95 but a selections is an excellent complement to a party or event. The staff is very helpful in educating patrons in distinguishing subtle differences in the formulation and balancing of flavors within particular cheeses. They even have their own curing cellar, which helps to ripen their products under proper environmental conditions. Wasik's also offers a number of related products, most notably its Yankee Chutney, Harvest Chutney, and Nor'easter Pepper Jelly, but don't mistake it for a supermarket. This is a real specialty store, and one that makes cheese shopping and cheese tasting a tasty and enjoyable experience. read more

I hate to be breaker of these 5 star yelp reviews but I say just okay. Yes this shop is the only true cheese shop in the burbs. I usually drive to cambridge to get my cheeses at formaggio. When I was at Wasik's buying my cheese plate, the staff helping me was not helpful and he was curt by showing me no real reaction to my questions. I seemed like a bother to him. I'm not sure if he was just having a bad day but if you are in this line of work you better pretend to suck it up. I did notice the other staff, who seemed to be happy helping customers so hence the 3 stars; otherwise, I would have given them 2 stars. My biggest gripe are the prices. I know people say Wellesley prices but there is no reason to hike up their prices so significantly when compared to the same imported cheeses that sell at Formaggio Kitchen. Formaggio Kitchen has reasonable prices at almost 30% less price per pound than Wasik's. I'm not a newbie to cheese either so I've had a plethora of cheeses both local and imported. MA France in Lexington has better French cheeses at half the cost. I think I'll drive a little bit out of the way to get better service and save myself $$. read more

The Cheese Shop doens't stick out, in fact, I've driven past it about 10,000 times and never knew it was there. So based on my obsession with all things cheesy and the excellent reviews I drug the hubbie in to see what all the fuss was about. Wow, the staff is SO NICE! And I typically hate people in Wellesley (ok, they must not live there) so I was SHOCKED by how they genuinely love their product and sharing their knowledge with others. All I said was "I have some Shiraz, I want cheese that would be yummy with it" and I wound up with a fabulous lesson on cheese and a few blocks of some of the best cheese ever. I had a gift certificate that I had been shuffling around for a few years. I finally stopped in on a Friday afternoon and was a little overwhelmed. The staff behind the counter couldn't have been more friendly or interested in helping me make some decisions. I was given samples of a few cheese spread/cracker combos which is what I came in looking for. I didn't feel pressured to buy anything, I didn't feel silly for not knowing much about the offerings except for my love of all things cheese. Great staff, cute shop - lots of snack offerings. The shop direct sources very good if not exceptional cheeses. It is not value priced and so definitely a special treat. My latest purchase was a $75 3-cheese plate with accouterments, I also bought a bottle of wine for pairing. Pick-up was seamless however I wrote to Brad about the cheeses not being labeled and after 6 days without a response followed up only to receive a snarky response and the suggestion to find "better luck shopping elsewhere." I live in Southie, work in Wellesley, and am tempted to keep my car for one reason and one reason only: The Cheese Shop (as my Garmin calls it). I was headed to the Upper Crust to grab Wine and Food Phest tickets for the boy's birthday. I looked up directions on Google Maps to see I was passing a place called "The Cheese Shop". Hmmm... sounds like a good enough pit stop to me. I walked in, told them what wine I bought (a malbec) and they immediately started pairing it. I was given multiple large samples on baguette and immediately fell in love. As a sucker for all things cheesey, I walked away with far more cheese than two people needed, a baguette, and a bag of hand made European potato chips that I never would have bought had I seen the price before he tallied them in. These people are THE BEST. Every year I call from California and fill a gift basket for my cheese-loving dad for Father's Day. They always remember me and do an extra special job. They always remember my dad and greet him like an old friend when he comes in for pickup. They make recommendations that are spectacular. Not at all a cheese guru, but I still went in and said I just wanted to try something new. The lady who helped me greeted me enthusiastically and asked what type of cheese I liked. From there she let me sample various cheeses until I worked my way to the cheese consistency and taste I wanted. I ended with the wonderful manchego from Spain and the Midnight Moon Goat Gouda.
