Nona's Ice Cream is delicious! I ended up getting ice cream twice while I was in town. I definitely preferred the Coffee Oreo over the Mint Chip. The Mint Chip was pretty boring and had large chunks of chocolate instead of smaller chocolate pieces throughout. My first visit on the Fourth of July was great. The service was kind, and I was really happy with my ice cream. Unfortunately, we had a different experience when we went back on Sunday. The service wasn't as friendly. I have gone to Nonas my whole life, and tonight's experience was definitely shocking, to say the least. I am a bartender and server, and my first job was scooping ice cream. I get it when a customer comes in at 8:50 asking for a shake, it's annoying. We came in at exactly 8:30, which is my limit before any establishment closes. I really wanted a shake. The girls told me they already put away the blender. I try to be respectful to all food industry workers, but putting away shake equipment 30 minutes before would've gotten me a write-up in the past. Nonas is the best. I am confused as to why anyone would give this establishment less than 5 stars. To be quite honest, it angers me. 1. Great, quick service. The employees are always polite. (Do not write an angry review that there are "long lines" and "it takes too long" if you are at Nonas on a hot summer day. This should be expected. Use common sense. It is a popular spot and your not the only person on earth.) BTW: even if there is a long line, it still does not take long. 2. The ice cream is smooth, creamy, and flavorful. I visit Boston every winter and always make it a point to swing through Hingham for a Cuban sandwich at Bloomy Rind and some ice cream at Nona's. During my most recent visit, I indulged in creamy scoops of coffee Oreo and white chocolate Oreo. I always forget how huge their scoops are and the price is inexpensive considering how massive the portion is. A double scoop feels like it's just shy of a pint! I love how you can get multiple flavors regardless of how many scoops you're getting and they have a good mix of classic and inventive flavors that are always spot on. Oh, how I miss Nona's! It was such an easy drive when I lived in Quincy. I truly don't understand the sub-standard reviews of this place. Ice cream is my #1 weakness Nona's does it right. To start, their flavor list is expansive. You can have something elevated (like blueberry cheesecake) or something simple (like chocolate M&M), so fans of all ages have choices. Second, you can tell by the depth of their flavors and the thick consistency of the ice cream that this is all made in-house. The staff behind the counter are rock stars. It's rather small inside, so they keep the line moving by tackling group orders in one fell swoop (very smart!) There are a few tables, but those are usually taken at peak times, so I'd recommend taking your cone (or cup) for a walk around town if the weather is nice enough. Hope to be back soon! read more

The Johnny B Good, however, is rather special and a great change for those who want a substantial ice cream like a cookies and cream, but think that's a little too boring. The Johnny is a cinnamon ice cream with oatmeal cookies inside. The cinnamon gives this a kick and goes well with the richness of the ice cream. We came here from Quincy, so it was a little bit of a drive, but worth it! The drive was beautiful and peaceful, passing by all the beautiful, large colonial homes. The street that Nona's is on is idyllic. Gorgeous store fronts, a church and old movie theater that makes it feel like you are in an All-American movie. The Ice Cream place itself is large and clean and has a couple tables, and several chairs at a bar. There is a bench or two outside; or you can walk the street. They were all out of Coffee Oreo :/ which I really wanted to try, so I guess I will have to come back! Instead I had the Mint M&M (delish!) and a scoop of the Cotton Candy, which did not taste or look like original Cotton Candy but tasted more like Cotton Candy with no artificial taste and was not overtly too sweet. My boyfriend got the Sundae made with Vanilla ice cream and Key Lime Pie ice cream with hot fudge and a brownie. He loved it! The only thing we wouldn't get again is the Key Lime ice cream. It was not the best, and had a bad aftertaste. There was also a price board, where you can purchase pints of ice cream or a thing of the hot fudge. I also saw some Cakes! There is diagonal street parking in front of the store as well as parallel parking across the street. We came on a Sunday, late afternoon and there were plenty of spaces.
