We have had our daughter enrolled as a kindergartener for a year now and her light is ALWAYS shining! She is excited to go to school every single day and even begs to go on the weekend. She will be joining the emerging first grade program in the fall. From the moment you step into Blossom there's a sense of curiosity wonder and amazement at the endless possibilities of creativity one can imagine. Even as an adult I wanted to go to school here! This is a child led program and my daughter is blooming learning so much, right now she's very focused on sewing ! My 3yr old son has been attending Blossom Heights for a year now. I cannot imagine my child attending any other childcare center. Their approach is play and nature based with emphasis on the Reggio Emilia approach to learning. My child comes home each day happy and with stories to tell! He comes home with evidence of a day well-spent in PLAY and FUN! He has grown so much since attending this school. When he began at Blossom Heights he was barely talking- he now speaks in full lengthy sentences with vocabulary that amazes me. He can problem solve and make plans for what he wants to achieve. Emotionally, he is more pulled together than I am! All of his emotional, social, and academic needs are met! His teachers LOVE him and SHOW him love consistently throughout each day. Pictures are worth a thousand words, as his teachers will frequently document his adventures and send daily photos through their Bright Wheel app for parents. Teachers take part in multiple professional development trainings and quality improvement programs throughout the year to ensure children are receiving the BEST care possible. This is truly a magical little place. I hunted around for months to find somewhere with a program that included ample outdoor time. Based on all the data for how important this is for kids, this doesn't seem like a challenging request -- but Blossom Heights was one of the only places I found where kids spend more than 2 hours outside (and most places it's more like 30-45 minutes). They have full and part-time programs, too, which is a major plus. It is not near where I live, but 100% worth the drive. The emphasis on open-ended play and being in nature is perfect. Each classroom has a dedicated outdoor area curated to their age/development. My son is outside for hours every day--painting, reading, playing with leaves, learning about bugs--it makes my day when I get pictures in the communication app of all the cute things he's doing. I'm so grateful he isn't stuck at a desk baking under fluorescent lights, or in a room with a million beeping toys. The classrooms are warm and cozy, full of open-ended activities but not overwhelming. The teachers and administrators are all so kind and loving. His teachers have been so patient with his reluctance to nap, and they give us the cutest insight into his days and growth. "Open-ended" and "play-based" is not a code word for laziness here, the teachers are extremely involved in crafting an environment that the children can learn from and guiding/nurturing them. They've been very careful with Covid precautions, too, and I never feel I'm taking unnecessary risk by bringing him to school. My only complaint is that I can't go to school here! read more

I feel so fortunate to have found Blossom Heights, and only wish I would have discovered it sooner. My children (3&5) got to experience two glorious years there, and I am so grateful for their time. The school focuses on the individual child's needs & desires through thoughtful play-based provocations, discussions and genuine engagement. Amazing school! It is like no other. I love that they spend most the day outside. They play, learn, and get messy! They've recently expanded with a new building and added kindergarten. We actually started our child at a different school this past fall (for personal convenience reasons) and decided we liked Blossom so much better that we pulled her out and moved her back to Blossom Heights. She's 4 and has been there since 20mo. I was a former Montessori teacher, but I knew I didn't want that for my toddler because of the lack of creative play and exploration. I chose Blossom because of the play based focus, extended outdoor time, and environmental awareness. They are very respectful of the children and use deliberate language to enforce the philosophies they believe in. read more

This place is nothing short of magical and our family cannot speak highly enough. Linda, the Owner, has created a beautiful haven for young children (and adults to be honest). We have a 3.5 yr old and a 20 month old, who look forward to coming here daily. Having two teachers per room with a limited number of students ensures plenty of one-on-one time for every child. The staff are a pure pleasure. They're well-educated, polite, patient and most importantly, happy to be there. Their philosophy is so simple, albeit, all the children learn PLENTY. The only drawback for us is that they stop at Kindergarten. We would keep the kids here through grade school if it were possible. read more

I'm so glad we chose this school. I was hesitating at first because of commute, but this school is absolutely worth it! My 5 yo son loves it and is asking to go there on the weekends. The concept is great and they spend the majority of the time outdoor, playing, building, doing bunch of stuff in a real nature surrounding. The rooms have windows and pretty spacious and bright. They also learn letters, numbers etc like all other schools. Would highly recommend it especially during the Covid. read more

This is such a wonderful school. My kids go in every morning with so much excitement and they come back home with amazing stories of their day. The facility is just beautiful, there are so many fruit trees and it feels like a little magical nature spot in the middle of the big metropolis. The teachers and the whole staff love kids and they are so minded to meet the children where they at and teach them new things. We are very happy we chose this school for our kids. I can't even describe the magic that is Blossom Heights. My shy toddler blossomed into an independent, imaginative, and well spoken child seemingly overnight- potty training, hand washing, self-dressing, even things as simple as putting her own shoes on, I struggled with those things until she started here. Even though this is a play based school where children are encouraged to explore what interests them, there is enough routine and structure that these important life skills (waiting in line, taking turns, using words to explain feelings, following instructions) are very effectively absorbed by the children. Even though each age range has their own specific lead teachers, every member of the faculty knows and interacts with every child that attends. Linda (the director) doesn't just show up occasionally to shake hands. She is there every single day, covering for teachers while they take their breaks, sitting down and reading books with the kids, caring for the many gorgeous plants and fruit trees that surround the school (one of my daughters favorite days was when they picked lemons from the tree and experimented with all the different ways they could eat them!). She is so passionate about the school and every child under its roof. Ms. Ana has a special gift for working with young children and made the transition of my daughters first 'daycare' experience easy and enjoyable. I can honestly say there's not a single member of faculty I wouldn't describe as excellent. Yes, there is a wait list. That's okay- get on it. I waited it out and it was SO worth it in the end. My child was at another local provider for a few weeks. That was supposed to be play based, but it didn't seem like it. I picked him up and he had puffy eyes every time. A friend recommended Blossom Heights, whose directer used to direct PoeCo, a long-loved preschool in Montrose that only caters to older kids (my son is 2). A short visit or two later and we switched over. He was happy when I picked him up and only cried once the whole day. I know this because they wrote a little sheet about his day to send me home with -- I missed that at the other school. The teachers there had no time to talk, and he was new, so I really needed communication. I felt like I was harrying them when I came. When I picked him up his first day at Blossom Heights, he'd eaten most of his snack and lunch -- at the other school, on all the days, he barely touched any food. Six hours is a long time for a toddler to go without eating. The play area at Blossom Heights is bright, spacious, and new. Kids spend a lot of time outdoors, which is good for my son. They are about to get a rabbit. Inside is as sparkling and my son's face transforms in a joyful way when he sees it. I walked in unannounced when we were checking it out, and the teacher had her back turned to us. She was chatting cheerfully with the kids a couple minutes before I spoke up, helping them with their lunch, and it was so sweet to watch. Her kind words and upbeat spirit helped me make my choice. I knew it was right when I came to drop my son off for his first day and there were two or three new pieces of kid art around the class. Not adult-directed kid art where an adult 'stamps' paper with a kid's hands and makes it into some cute animal -- but real messy, lovely art. I didn't know about play-based learning until my older child went to PoeCo. It transformed her from a shy and silent kid into an outgoing, happy, curious, kid able to express herself beautifully. I feel like this kind of learning honored her spirit and her intelligence without drilling her with worksheets as had happened at the preschol she had gone to (and which had shut her down). Blossom Heights is an amazing little gem in the chaos that is Houston. Both my 4 year old and 2 year old now attend Ms. Linda's school, and they are in love with it. Every time I visit or pick up my sons, they are so busy having fun, they don't want to leave. Yet, they seem to learn all sorts of new things every time. From the biology of Monarch butterflies to writing their own short stories, the chatter about their school day is incessant. So much chatter is exhausting, but I digress. We followed Linda Draper from her days of running Poe-Co where she took care of our oldest son. We kept in touch and were thrilled when she finally opened Blossom Heights. Linda has education and skills that few can parallel. More important, she has put together a team of loving staff in an incredible facility with great resources. My 2.5 year old son tells me all weekend that he wants to go to Blossom Heights. There is so much to do at this place from puzzles, interactive learning, outdoor recreation, painting, etc. Every time we drop off our child we see something new that Blossom Heights has to offer, such as the flower beds and the Pomegranate tree . . . We moved to Houston in 2012 from Boston and were looking for a play-based pre-school. We had been planning to attend a Reggio Emilia-inspired school in Boston before moving here, so I was looking for a school in that vein: Lots of time outside, lots of play, art, music, child-directed activities and learning from his surroundings. I looked and looked and visited many schools but nothing felt exactly right. Then, I happened to find Blossom Heights during a late-night googling session. One visit and I knew it was special and would be right for my son. We live in Montrose but the drive is so worth it. The place is just gorgeous and the design of the space is so well thought-out. There are fruit trees, gardens, tons of nature space, a pet rabbit, etc. Kids have lots of room to roam and explore. Meals are enjoyed outside under an adorable covered picnic area. I love that my son comes home with a painting every day and is also muddy and worn out from exploring ant hills, birds nests, tadpoles and butterflies. At the same time, I feel very good about my relationship with Linda, the director, and with all of my son's teachers. I have had many opportunities to observe the way that his teachers interact with the children and handle social/emotional development. There is a lot of love, humor and careful teaching happening. This school is not a co-op, but the interaction and easy rapport with teachers makes me feel very much a part of things. They really earned my trust by taking my questions seriously and taking the time to sit down and meet with me for extended discussion. These are compassionate professionals who know what they are doing and do it with joy. I recently took my son's grandparents there to visit and their first words were "What a happy place!
