I've always been a fan of their coffee, and there's something very calming to drinking a good cup of coffee while also looking at succulents or other small potted plants for home. They have plenty of other accoutrements on either side. They have a broad coffee selection along with mugs and other coffee related pleasantries on the coffee side, while on the plant side they have plenty of different plant related trinkets which include lots of vases, tools and other fun stuff to make your home nice and welcoming. The prices seemed to be fair, though in all fairness I am not a plant expert. It's legitimately fun to see specialty stores like this popping up in the area and based on the traffic from the first couple of weeks, it feels like this place is going to do just fine. This, fortunately, was our experience this past weekend. We came in with our sights set on painting a number of rooms in our house. The colors are all arranged in different pallets so it made choosing a lot easier, the actual number of choices seemed pretty endless and the employees are incredibly helpful. They helped us pick out some really nice color schemes for different rooms, made some really nice recommendations on the different types of paint that were available, and overall it felt like they were really trying to help us get a good deal rather than just sell us the most expensive can of paint. They also helped us out with getting a number of paint supplies, again making sure we were saving money where we could. On a side note, my better half and I have both decided that we want to figure out who gets to name the paint colors. We're not sure what goes into the decision to name something mermaid blue or graceful beige, But whatever it is it seems like a lot of fun! The quality of the paint here versus what you find in the big box type stores is definitely higher and we were glad that we came here based on our experience. They have pretty frequent sales where you'll get 30 to 40% off, so brings the prices down substantially. It's weird to have a "paint store" but after our experience here, this one will be ours!

I'm disappointed that they . I'm building some raised garden beds and decided to check out my options. Upon walking in, I was greeted by the amazing smell of popcorn! They've got a little machine with some delicious popcorn to snack on! Major plus for this guy - I love that stuff. Anywho - back to the lumber - my options were Douglas fir-larch, pressure treated lumber, and cedar. The douglas fir-larch is around $0.65 / LF. Pressure treated was about $1.65/LF, and cedar was around $3.30/LF. Based on the fact that I would have to seal the regular wood, I decided to go with 12' pressure treated. I'm a fan of local business, but prices have to be competitive. In this case, prices for a 2x8x12' was about 15% higher than at one of the big box retailers. In general, that seems like an approximate premium that you may pay here over the home improvement juggernauts. I was assuming that Hellisen only sold lumber, but they have quite a few other items. You can find a lot of wordworking tools and fasteners, as well as basic construction materials - but, mostly things that are wood related. If you like supporting local business and don't mind a small premium, Helliesen is a great option for lumber in Yakima. If they were open on saturdays, I'd buy a lot more lumber from here!
