Jolene is one of my favorite wineries in New Kent! This cute greenhouse inspired waterfront winery should be known for their decor and impeccable views. I've had a chance to rent a yurt on the water and have private wine service, sit with friends in the greenhouse as well as listen to a live performer on the patio. If you're a first timer get the flight of wine! Drink them all! You won't be disappointed. My favorite wines to order by the bottle are the Lakeview White and Rose'! Even though it was a very hot and humid day and the inside AC was working well, we ventured outside for the view of the lake and the calmness it brings. Came here for a girls wine tasting. Jolene Family Winery is located in Kent County, VA, about a 40 minute drive from Richmond. The winery is situated by a river. There was parking available, but if you come late, you may have difficulty finding a spot. We entered the building and proceeded to the counter to check out what they offered. The staff were pleasant and patient in explaining the various wines and other beverages they offered. The ambiance was chill, as we had visited on a Saturday which also included a food truck onsite and live music. We settled on the nine-sample tasting which was only $20, a great deal in our opinion. It consisted of 3 whites, 1 rose, 4 reds, and one tasting at the end that we could choose the flavor: raspberry or peach; some chose raspberry some peach. There was plenty of seating inside and outside. There was an outdoor covering, in the event of inclement weather, which also housed a fire hearth, good for a fire roaring chilly night of wine tasting. There were also outside open seating with tables. We also noted that folks were bringing their own chairs, which was a good move given that the crowd grew the longer we were there. Our tasting was nice: we were given a metal tray that held our tastings with a paper under that identified each wine and also given a paper with a description of the notes of each wine. It was mix of dry and sweet red and white blends, which was good. We all had a favorite with one clear winner: the last peach wine of the tasting! You could also purchase wine by the glass, bottle, or to go, in addition to wine slushes. They also had snacks such as cheese, crackers, dried meats, perfect for making your own charcuterie board to nibble on with your wine. There were also folks who brought their own snacks. The food truck on site was Cousin's Main Lobster specializing in all things lobster. They had the traditional lobster roll, lobster grilled cheese, lobster quesadilla , lobster tacos, lobster bisque, etc. We ordered the traditional lobster roll with mayo (they also had one with garlic butter and one with Parmesan), lobster quesadilla, lobster tacos, and shrimp tacos. The food was ok, nothing stood out overall. The seafood was fresh and did lack seasoning, but overall, good. The winery also had local artisan items for sale such as jewelry, t-shirts, wine glasses, throw pillows, etc. We also saw that this was a family and dog-friendly winery as there were plenty of both there. The winery overlooked a lake, which was picture perfect. There was a duo playing music under an outside pavilion stage. All in all, a great afternoon sipping wine with friends and family. read more

Took a random trip to Jolene's while trying to figure out how to spend a day with nice weather and it definitely didn't disappoint. Ended up trying different wine flights and they had a lot of options that I definitely enjoyed. They occasionally have live music, and it sits right on the lake, which is definitely a nice way to spend the day. Ended up coming back with my mother and she loved the place Everyone was so nice and knowledgeable and I definitely felt right at home. Beautiful location on Tom Brooks Lake. Venue is spacious and relaxing. Wine options are plentiful. They allow outside food, which is appreciated, as the food options are basic, but good. I went specifically for a food truck (Mama Vicky's Filipino food) but they never showed up, which was the only disappointment, but no fault of the winery. They also had a singer (CK) who was good. Nice location, friendly staff, great place to hang out with friends. I recently moved here from Seattle and was anxious to try a local winery. I decided to stop here based on the great reviews. For a blustery gray Saturday, this place was pretty full. While waiting in line to order (that moved pretty quickly), I was surprised to see a number of children and dogs inside. There were quite a few tables full of people enjoying wine and snacks. Not being familiar with their wines, I opted for the red tasting, which included a merlot rose, which happened to be my favorite. I sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful scenery and listened to a couple of guys sing while I drank my wine. I ended up also doing the white tasting, which I wasn't as big of a fan of as they were all pretty sweet. Most of the outside tables were filled with people eating and drinking, even on a cold day. They had a food truck onsite as well. For my fist VA winery, I thought this was a great place with lots to offer. The reason for the 4 star rating is because I found most of their wines to be too sweet for my liking. Guess that's something I'll have to get used to here in VA. read more

Jolene Family winery is a very laid back and relaxed atmosphere. You order your wine of choice from your server at the bar, then enjoy the various indoor or outdoor relaxation areas. The views are worth more than the wine. We had the sweet flight and the red flight. We also tried the limoncello slushie and the blackberry slushie. Our flights were good, but we chose not to purchase bottles to take home because we didn't find anything that struck our palette. The slushies were delicious and def worth the visit. I do wish the pours were a little more substantial. Overall not a bad place to stop in for a quick unwind. Overall a 3 for the wine and a 4 for the ambiance. read more

I loved eeeeverything! about Jolene Family Winery. Oh, my gosh. Why did it take me so long to visit? Jolene's not terribly far east of Richmond, but it's located enough away to be nestled in woods, with a gorgeous lake full of adorable ducks as its neighbor. Their wine list is varied with many different flavor profiles available. I am not hugely knowledgeable when it comes to wine. I will say the merlot rose, the vidal blanc, lakeview white, and vasara peach were my favorites. I tried their $20 tasting, which included almost all of their wines. We purchased a vasara peach bottle to go as well. They had live music on Memorial Day, when I visited, as well as an Italian ice food truck and a taco truck. Their patio is gorgeous and their interior space was inviting as well. This is definitely a place to visit in mild weather to enjoy the sights and the wines. read more

What a fantastic vibe! I'll be quick to say that I like the Pino the most. But here's what stands out above the wine selection: it's the staff!!!! Talk about folks who represent their winery both on and off premises, these folks are what makes the place stand wayyyy out. While enjoying some wine tasting (9 in total) we sat and talked to a wonderful couple there with their two boys. They were right: the pizza was reallllly good! My sister and I went to Jolene Family Winery for their anniversary celebration. They had various vendors, including food and artistry. There is plenty of parking, and I was able to park with ease. Upon entering, if you bring a cooler They will double check the contents inside. The employees were very friendly and welcoming. I was in awe of how beautiful the space was. They had seated in an enclosed area with games and fans as it was very hot out. Then outdoor seating some tables with umbrellas and others without. In the main area, they sold everything you could think of cheese, crackers, and much more. Also, they had gluten-free crackers. I was happily surprised. My sister ordered a wine flight for $10, and I ordered the mango wine slusjie for $9. They also had a peach wine slushie, which was good, but I preferred the mango. We sat outside by the water, and it was so relaxing. One of the workers comes around making sure everyone has enough water if needed. They have yurts located on the grass near the water as well. Fab place for gathering with friends to enjoy each other's company and to enjoy wine. This winery offers reds and whites along with flights so you don't have to commit to one bottle initially. I started with the white wine flight then shared a bottle of Vasara Peach that my friend treated me to, such a sweet friend. This was the first time we were here vs. the other couple's multiple times and the same with the yet other one. The Vasara Peach is too sweet for my Hubs who stuck with Family Red. The flight included Family White, Vidal Blanc, Lakeview White, and a choice of Peach or Strawberry Vasara. Apparently the Strawberry is sweeter than the Peach. Fun times! read more

I went in October for Halloween time and it was actually one of the hot October days. I was super super excited because they have the past few Octobers, been doing these "blood bags" which were cold wine plushies and it was DELICIOUS...they used food dye but the flavor was Mango. They had someone there selling books which was great and I bought 2. The guy who helped us with our wine choices was super nice. They also had a guy performing and was super good. It is a very cute place. The outside seating is very pretty. There is a small pond and fireplace. My husband and I did the tasting. We loved Pinot Grigio. It was very smooth and fruity. We also enjoyed Cabernet Franc. Our most favorite was Duggan's Press. It is semi port. It has a hint of sweetness and is not heavy compared to regular port wines. We stopped by this place to take a quick break after we picked up a puppy. Our focus was a puppy. We could not really relax and enjoy drinking wine tasting. But I remember that the wine that I tasted was pretty good. Most of the wines are sweet side than dry. This is a dog/family-friendly place. Also, when we stopped by, there was a food truck. My visit to Jolene's was way past due! Coming here has been on my "To Do List" since I first learned of its existence. I must say, it did not disappoint. My only regret is that I didn't come SOONER! I picnicked here with my sister-in-law one Sunday and we both ordered flights. The customer service was superb; I felt both valued and welcomed! No to mention, you can bring your own food. I loved that idea; as well as food truck vendors onsite as well for alternative options if you choose not to bring food. This literally made for a lovely way to spend on a hot sunny summer day. There's plenty of shades areas along the water's edge. The live music was also very pleasing. The whole experience was a vibe. My wife and I were in the area with her sister and husband and we wanted to check this place out. It is pretty close to their home. It opened at 11 am on Sat and we got there around 1045am. There were several cars in the lot. We went in at 11 and were able to be seated immediately and go up to the bar to order a flight of the wine for sampling. There is some really nice outdoor seating, but it was still early and windy. They have a indoor seating but they also have a very nice addition to the building. It is open on the lake side, but there are walls with windows on the other sides. There are ceiling fans, a heater and fire place area for colder months. This is the perfect setting for a cool day or evening where you are out of the wind. The wines were pretty good as well. You are able to bring your own food as well if you want to have lunch there. As I mentioned, there is outdoor seating, a fire pit and plenty of places to sit and enjoy the wine and view. On this Saturday, they had a small market with local vendors as well. The hit of the trip for my wife and her sister was the wine slushies. They had one with a peach white and one with a red with mango. Big hit!! Definitely give this place a shot. I read more

Wanting to explore wineries around central Virginia without driving to Charlottesville, I thoroughly enjoyed this spot in new Kent. Not too far from downtown richmond! This spot has lots of seating indoor and outdoor. This includes seats by the lake, fire pit, and inside, and you are welcome to bring the whole family (including puppies). We decided to do the flight tasting to try all of the wines, for an up charge it comes with a glass. I'm assuming that since Covid you have to take the flight back to your table rather than have someone explain the different notes and flavors in each wine. The provide a handy information sheet that describes the wines so you can read along as you taste. I enjoyed all of the wine! If you are looking for a high level Informative explanation or guided tour this place is not for you. My friend who prefers dry wine, so they only enjoyed a few of the wines from the tasting, so if you like dry wine this place may not be for you. I however loved everything that I tasted. I visited on a Sunday so there was a food truck, but I would recommend grabbing lunch to bring since they do not serve food. + There's plenty of space to have a picnic. read more

The first time we just popped in for a quick tasting, and although I didn't love all of their wines - I was able to find some that definitely stuck out. I like their Vidal Blanc and their Cab Franc - both are on the drier side (my favorite) - but their reds could probably do with a tad more aging overall. Had a group of women come for a couple hours we never made it that long ..we felt very uncomfortable.. our bags were searched .. we brought food for a picnic that never happened . Our food was searched .. wanted to enjoy a nice cigar and was told to go off the property and stand out in the gravel .. needless to say we left !! Terrible experience never to return !! read more

Ok so this is a story. First we went to New Kent Winery...#don't. Then we came here and by golly we're we spoiled. Not only do they have a greenhouse with a huge philo hope for you plant lovers but they also have lakeside seating. A taco truck will satisfy your cravings and a $15X9 tasting can flank any wine enthusiasts Sunday. Despite a mistake on their part which was properly corrected by the owner we had a truly unique and beautiful Sunday. We sang to Zac brown band the whole way home without a second thought thanks to their peach wine. Come here and get spoiled and leave happy as a northern neck clam. read more

We booked a tent August 28th for our adult children to celebrate their birthday's by RSVP. This winery is spacious, the staff was courteous and promptly attentive. We had a group of 7 the tent was by the water front, it was equipped with 2 small fans, the attendant Ashley was polite. I do suggest that when people do a tasting that you educate guest about the wine, the company, we left with no information as to how they choice New Kent, where the wine is made, nothing about each wine. Also after purchasing 4 bottles of wine, 7 tasting, RSVP tent fee, 2 mango slushy drinks, we left early because we felt the lack of information given was inadequate.
