Helen and Brian are the owners of this --- way beyond a coffee place!! Helen happens to be an architect and my husband and I were so impressed when they first opened. The place has a really cool vibe. They serve breakfast and lunch. Everyone working at Blue Crab had a terrific attitude and they are so appreciative of their patrons. Brian informed me today that they will be adding outdoor tables. This is fab for dogs Andreas their people - one more restaurant they can visit. I am s "high maintenance coffee drinker." I love cappuccinos with strong espresso and fat free milk. My husband likes regular coffee and he says theirs is great. I love that they have fresh fruit cups daily. read more

As soon as we walked into this place, we knew it was a winner. It smelled good and was full of happy people. They have a nice assortment of baked goods, including several that are gluten free. A nice list of coffees. I was able to get the decaf Americano I've been wanting. It was good but not fabulous. I had an omelette that was overly brown, but that's not that uncommon and it was otherwise tasty. I'd give them 4-1/2 stars if I could, but since the staff is so friendly, I'm rounding up. read more

It was so easy to use the website to order ahead, pay online, and grab my order for carry out. The place is adorable and I'd love to be able to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee there on another visit. The coffee was good, the breakfast sandwich was delicious, and the chocolate croissant was flaky, buttery goodness. When I came in to pick up the food and coffee it was ready to go, and the staff was friendly and polite. The to-go order had nice hot coffee and the breakfast sandwich was warm and toasty. Stopped here to grab coffee before heading to breakfast when we noticed they had omelettes and breakfast sandwiches on the menu. Loving the bright clean kitchen. We decided to order here. So glad we did. Easily one of the best omelettes and egg sandwiches we have ever had. I do suggest telling the story of the new logo which I understand has to do with the history of the building being a men's lodge or better creating one that ties in the name, the history of the building and St Michael's. read more

Here's the thing - this place has delicious food! You will not go wrong by any means with any order on this menu. Seriously the food is absolutely delicious. However, this place is disorganized which given these crazy times that totally makes sense but it's unapologetic about it. My family and I went for breakfast twice in a row. On the first day, the orders came out fine, but if you asked for anything it was a call for all three and you only got one. You make a second call, and you get neither of the two extras. You make a final call (and believe me you could hear the moan on the other side) and you finally get it. Which - hey no worries. Not upset by any means at all. Just want my items to enjoy my meal. Now the second day, this was much worse. We ordered one item with extra pico, and the item that already had pico - comes with none. You ask for forks and knives, hot sauce etc you get none. So that's a disappointment. Then 40 minutes later you get all your food. Mind you there is the snarky comment of "yesterday I got three calls asking for all this extra stuff...just making sure you got it" ...pointing out WE STILL DIDNT GET THOSE ITEMS! All and all - here's the deal. This food is amazing. Go - for sure but manage your expectations as your food will not be ready, so don't go hungry! Go with a mindset of like I could eat ‍ and then be pleasantly surprised that you were starving once the food finally arrives and with all the proper items. read more

Blue Crab coffee is extremely cute and has great sandwiches. However, their coffee is a 3-4 star. Still, Blue Crab is in town and it's a great place to meet with friends. Parking is on the side of the building in a lot, or on the street. This shop appears to have a number of daily specials that are hand made by the owners. This is worth noting because they are REALLY GOOD!! 5/5 stars!!! However, if you don't happen upon one of these delicious treats you will be subject to mass produced baked goods that are good, but not great. read more

How I heard of this place: Our trip to St. Michaels was an experience of firsts initiated by our dear friends and travel buddies from Arlington. This quaint, creamy coffee shop is no different. Type of cuisine: "Blue Crab Coffee Company invites you to enjoy a cozy coffee house environment in beautiful St. Michaels, Maryland. Located in the historic Freedom's Friend Lodge, Blue Crab Coffee offers great coffees, specialty drinks, baked goods and other delicious fare, as well as a variety of teas, whole bean and ground coffee selections." Ambiance: Inside the big, yellow house behind the Acme building and adjacent to the St. Michaels Police Department house (complete with porch!), is the Blue Crab Coffee Co. one immediately takes a deep breath, taking in the aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans. The hardwood floors lead down a narrow hallway interspersed with shelving holding large, glass jars of various coffee beans, and loose-leaf teas. The hallway opens into a room; to the left the cash register and barista haven, to the right, large, wooden tables with wooden, pew seating against the wall, and hard chairs open to the walkway, leading back towards the more intimate mini-tables and chairs at the back of the long, rectangular establishment. One lone television set, a parchment sail and seafaring photographs and Celebrate St. Michaels artwork make the decor. Blue Crab Coffee is a nice gathering spot for your coffee and tea drinks in St. Michael's. There's a nice selection of hot and cold coffees and tea drinks. There's a selection of baked goods to eat in or take out. They have a nice breakfast/brunch menu. My son ordered a Turkey BLT that was a nice size and good. There's a good number of tables, a couch with some games and a tv in the back of the space. Blue Crab is our go to place for cool spot in the summer months for our coffee drink needs. read more

Very disappointed in the service that I got this morning. My husband ordered a chai tea latte for me and it was hot instead of iced. So I went back in and asked if I could have it corrected. She said there may be a change in price. I said no problem. They hand me a cup of ice and I outed the tea in to see how it was. It was awful. The teabag was still in there and it was not a usual chai tea, no taste. So I asked if they could redo it and the girl rudely said I would have to get back in line. I said no thanks. I didn't ask for my money back and she didn't offer. As I was leaving she said throw away your trash! I will never go back!!! The girls making the drinks must have been new bc she clearly didn't know what I was asking for. Very disappointing. I have been going there since they opened but they lost two customers! read more

The iced coffee was strong and not overly bitter, overall a great iced coffee. Baked items looked good and we tried the Bake well tart which had good flavor but a little soft. I wanted a croissant but they were way too well done (nothing that burnt should have been displayed at a place that used the "bakery" description on yelp). The inside was great! Nothing about this place is terrible, but if it were in any other town it would be 1 star. Service was friendly but SLOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWW. We stopped in on a Saturday morning and there was only 1 employee. The self serve coffee (an idea I hate) had an empty air pot, people were ordering food, and I ordered a latte. It took over 10 minutes to get the latte by the time she made the food, brewed another airpot, and got to work on my latte. To make things worse, the prices are insane. Over $4 for a double shot, 16oz latte? Is this New York? Most everywhere in the country is about $4 for a triple shot 20oz... And you would think the latte was good, which it wasn't bad, but it had no distinct flavor and I'd guess only had 1 pump of syrup. Atmosphere is cool though, customers were super friendly, and they have a great local feel. Just don't expect fantastic coffee in a decent amount of time if they only have 1 staff member. read more

For years this was the best coffee shop in town because it was the only one. Now, under new management and newly renovated, it is truly great! Brewing excellent coffee (Four Barrel), and with a great iced tea (and I'm super particular), they've added a kitchen and now have a tight menu with great options for breakfast and lunch including local and vegetarian choices. Fully renovated, it's now roomy and bright with great seating for a quick break from shopping or a meal. Owned and operated by a lovely husband and wife team, it's a definite stop during your time in St. Michael's! Update: came back a few months later and ate breakfast. This place is a great coffee house and the anti-Starbucks. Sure they sever a lot of espresso drinks, frappes, etc. but they are true coffee drinks and not flavored coffee concoctions that Starbucks has. The place has nice ambiance without over doing it. Yes, they have souvenir coffee mugs and the like but it's really a nice place just to relax with a cup of joe or a latte after walking the streets of Saint Michaels and a day of shopping. read more

Very good coffee, rich and full flavored. The sitting area is very large and there are lots of different sized tables. Parking is easy too. I always like small, one of a kind coffee shops, and when the coffee beats Starbucks (not real hard to do) that's even better. Service, however, was very slow. Blue Crab Coffee is fantastic. They serve De La Paz and Four Barrel coffee and all of their baristas are very well trained. The cold brew is also excellent. I've only been here for breakfast and the food was great. Everyone I know who has been here loves it. We love this place! We were in St. Michaels for almost a week for our wedding and went to this place every morning for coffee and breakfast sandwiches. Delicious. It is great quality food and coffee, a beautiful space and easy walking distance in town. We loved it so much that we asked if they could cater a small brunch for our family, and they did an incredible job. They had quiches, fruit, bagels and lox, and various pastries. They also brought coffee and juice. They came to the house we had rented and set everything up for us and later came back to pick it up. It was delicious, informal and so easy. Basics: You expect to smell coffee when you walk into a coffee shop. No such thing here. You never expect to pay more than you would at Starbucks unless the coffee is sold in a gold cup. Great coffee and breakfast find in St. Michaels. My husband and I both had the egg tortilla wrap with optional add in toppings, mine was gluten free. Presentation and taste was exactly what we wanted. Served hot, fresh and delicious! Service is counter style and self service for pick up and cleaning table. I bring classes of sailing students to St. Michaels three or four times a year. Every time I am here, I bring the students to the Blue Crab for breakfast. It never fails to impress them. The venue itself is amazing, particularly for breakfast when things are quiet and the staff is able to talk with us. Angie is a whiz at the grill, making things to order that are fresh, tasty and presented well. She is willing to cook to order and has a "no problem" attitude that is truly refreshing. After two or three days of "boat coffee," a cup of real, fresh ground made-tor-order coffee really hits the spot. My only complaint is that they open at 7:00 AM and I am usually up and rolling before then. Of course, I could look at it as at least they are open by seven!! read more
