My trip was going to be from 1st August to 13th August but there was a incident which happened on 4th August which made me traumatized and I returned back to Toronto. So, basically me and 2 indians friends and 1 one from other country were at CLUB UNITY on Friday the 4th of August. We were in the line and when we reached to the bouncer he asked me if I have a reservation. I said no so he snatched me outside the line and said I cannot go in and nither my friends. I was like okay no problem then can I make a reservation? He said no. But he did not ask other people in the line for reservations and he was removing àll South asian people from the line. I asked a guy and a girl (caucasian) in the line if they have one and they said no and they said we can go without a reservation (I saw them getting in without being asked for a reservation just their ID). As well as on the website there was nothing mentioned and even club unity's Instagram. I called the customer service and she said we don't let anyone without a reservation but I told her that other people are going and she said no we need a reservation and the customer service was not helpful too. I have videos too where you can see that the people were not asked for the reservation except for brown skin. I am so upset because Unity was the club were I first went after coming out as gay. Later I put a review on google and the person from Club unity said I did not had a ID but that was never a case because if he asked me for a different ID then I would have given him. Most of the comedians are up and coming or starting to perform for their first few times. As for the actual bar, it could use some updating. It did not feel so clean inside and was quite dark upon entry of the venue. Not sure why this was, as when I arrived, they were getting ready for the stand up comedy show. If they focused on cleaning this place up and making it more appealing, then I would probably add another star to the review.

What I cannot understand is why my drink was arrogantly taken away from me by the bartender I ordered it from simply because I didn't add a tip! I feel so old school, but to me a tip is based on quality of service. Here's what happened. Anyone who has patiently waited to order a drink at a bar only to get overlooked deliberately when it's obvious you were next, knows how annoying that can feel. But now we have to tip for this, or else?! There was a female bartender taking orders. As I stood waiting at the front, I noticed a guy in front of me behind the bar focused more on cleaning than taking orders. I assumed he was the bar back. Several minutes after I first noticed him and after the girl kept going to others, he finally decided to acknowledge the fact that I was there and took my order. Because the girl bartender made direct eye contact with me yet chose to go to someone else I decided not to add a tip. As I went to pay the guy I noticed the debit machine did something weird after I selected no tip. The bartender swooped in with the quickness. He took the machine from me and said obnoxiously, "You didn't pay a tip?!" and swiftly put his nasty hands over the drink and pulled it back. I told him I wasn't adding a tip when I was deliberately passed over. I asked why would I tip for poor service? He then had the nerve to accuse me of now being in the way of others (how effing obnoxious!). Right on cue this dude stepped up in perfect entitled fashion. Like an idiot, I actually went to explain myself to him. To my surprise this kid declared, "You have to give a tip!" All I can say is we are truly some obnoxious F-ers to think we deserve something for nothing. It's like getting spit in the face and than thanking the person who did it. Totally goes in line with the A hole standards of the day! Never going back.

It's chill to lounge in when it's quiet (ie; before 1am-ish.) You can hear each other talk, djs start around 10pm, well drinks are $6 for basic booze - you could do a lot worse. The sound quality is warm and well-suited to house, and the mirror above the dj booth gives a nice view on the good work going down. Fun, not fancy, shared bathrooms, a place to check out if you're looking to cut a rug around Mount Royal.

We always say yes to good music so we went on in. When we got upstairs, there were a total of 5 people on the dance floor aside from us (2 couples and 1 guy who looked like he was practicing moves). We laughed off the false advertising that there were "so many people," and proceeded to the dance floor anyway because we always have a good time. Looks like we brought the party because people started piling in shortly after and the music kept going and going. They won't let you into the DJ booth area (although the security guy followed me all the way upstairs until telling me this). To request a song, you have to do some #-something and text the song to the DJ. Very cool, but I just wanted to hear a song and that was a tad too much work. Porch area with bar that offers prime viewing of Montreal's nightlife. Great fun =D

However, the drinks were terrible. I ordered a White Russian spiced with cinnamon or nutmeg. It was different, but I finished it. The Bloody Czar was awful though. Way too spicy, and I couldn't finish it. It was like vodka was mixed with hot sauce. The club was too dark and crowded, so I left to find another bar or club open on a Thursday night.

Especially if you get smashed enough, the music will be Beethoven to your ears. There's a small, decent sized dance floor but the place is pretty big to bring the dancing to other areas.
