I went to Blue Fig farms because the internet thought they might have British food. I guessed that ingredients for Indian cookery is what they specialize in so there could be cross overs. I keep reading about how brown sauce is a staple on every table in the UK. HP Sauce is the main brand. I stopped in on afternoon Saturday the 7th. First impression was similar to the Asia market on White Lane, maybe less cluttered, more like a small supermarket. Walking the isles I didn't see it. To make sure I asked a stock clerk. He was friendly, hadn't heard of HP Sauce but walked me to where it might be. No luck. I didn't want to leave empty handed so brought an apple soda in a clear plastic can shaped like an aluminum can up to the register. I guess they took those earlier negative reviews to heart. The cashier, a man in his 40s or 50s, was so friendly. Joking with me in a dad joke way then gifting me a little morsel on my way out. I'm sure no one else gets treats, I was wearing my cervical collar, pretty sad looking. They have a lot of different foods there. Great produce. Just don't count on finding much British food. read more

This is a lovely Ethnic market. They have a small but Beautiful produce section that carries many of the ordinary items but they have some lovely unique vegetables you won't find anywhere else in Bakersfield. You can get a quick meal to go, which I haven't done yet but am looking forward to. The aromas are Devine. The staff has always been friendly and helpful to me. They have a small but excellent meat department. I noticed that they have very reasonable prices and the lamb is especially affordable compared to other markets. They have a vast array of what are exotic groceries compared to other markets. I love to just peruse the isles when I'm there. I wish they had cooking classes. It would be interesting to learn how to use ingredients I'm not familiar with. I highly suggest a visit. You won't be disappointed. read more

The young man at the baklava counter was so friendly and informative & we left with an amazing fresh selection of baklava & a freshly prepared za'atar manakeesh. I have been in this store multiple times to buy certain Mediterranean items. Some of their veggies and fruits are very good. Ambiance I am not sure it's friendly to me. Service to me was " distant and not friendly." I felt " all eyes." On me and hubby. I was dressed well. Stopped in for a quick mid-day coffee. After noticing their sign I had to go with the Ramadan Kareem (And I'm glad I did) Very nice and creamy mix, and great flavor. The staff is always very friendly and eager to serve. I've been hearing lots of things about this international grocery store so it's been on my radar for months. I wanted to get my kids some of those fruit ice cream bars so I decided to stop in. My first impression is that it's smaller than I thought it would be but it's very clean. I perused the bakery and coffee bar areas and then went to find the ice creams. I got some of the fried chicken ones and decided to try the peach ones as well. The ice creams are expensive at $7.99 each and the 3 pack of the peach ones was $19.99. That's about $55! After purchasing the ice creams, I then went back to the bakery deciding to grab some baklava for the hubs since it's his fave. However, when I approached the window and gave a chipper "Hello there!" It is supermarket with a twist . They have a lot of stuff which includes different spices from different countries and many more which we look for in a supermarket. They can cut whole chicken in small pieces if you like . Excellent customer service and ample parking . We only came in here because we needed to use the restroom and the boba shop down the way didn't have one. The bathrooms were gross, however most people probably are t popping in to use them lol Of course I had to get something, and the bakery counter did not disappoint . They have a large variety of delicious pastries at reasonable prices. They also have Turkish coffee that it looks like they make with the hot sand, but we were getting drinks already so we didn't try it. I came into the store for the first time after I left Trader Joe's so I didn't really need a lot and I'm glad that I did because the store isn't really for me since I don't understand a lot of of what things are in it. The first thing I did is went to the bakery and they have an option to order a spinach pie for about 595 so I thought it was pretty cheap and it absolutely was for what I got. It was amazing. It was larger than what the picture looked like and you can't really get a meal for 595 anywhere. So now I know where I'm going for lunch breaks. I went up and down the aisles and tried to read everything and only a few things were in English, but I got a few items anyway because I could tell what it was. Don't give me wrong. I wish that I knew the writing and I wish I knew how to cook some of this food. I didn't notice they have a ton of meat in that department. And I did notice that there was a lot of really good produce. There was avocados for two for a dollar so that is cheaper than what I've seen anywhere even the farmers market. The staff was really nice. There was quite a bit of people shopping. And I'm sure I will try more new things when I come back. I was really interested in some of their foreign sodas. But back to my spinach pie... the bread was so light and fluffy. The ingredients I totally forgot but other than spinach I think it had onions and maybe some tomatoes or peppers in it. The staff is very nice and will answer any questions you have. They carry really unique Mediterranean, middle eastern, and hard to get international items. They have an amazing smoothie bar and coffee bar including a Turkish Coffee that's heated on sand in front of you. They have a really yummy flatbread "pizza", made to order (lots of options) and some of the best baklava, lots of things made with kataifi (including pistachio cream filled items and Dubai chocolate) my favorite desserts are the little "birds nest". Also some really good cookies especially to enjoy with teas and coffee. All of them are made onsite. You can make your own almond paste too (see the pics)! Went there to grab some groceries and discovered a small coffee shop tucked away in the corner. Despite having just had a coffee, the menu was too interesting to resist. The barista was super kind and helpful answering all our questions - we ended up ordering the Suhoor (a tahini paste latte) and the Kunafa (aptly named) latte. I had such an amazing time here. Everyone inside was so nice and friendly. The store is brightly lit and organized into different sections. I was immediately drawn to the coffee . The specials are cleverly named and filled with exotic ingredients. I selected the garden. I browsed the dry goods bins as I waited. After a short while my drink was ready . Our first time here trying their coffee and pastries and overall everything was good! We got the Take a Flight and Suhoor lattes. I believe they switch up their coffee menu and offer different specialty lattes. Both were good and had a unique taste, definitely not your typical caramel or vanilla lattes and weren't very sweet so keep that in mind. There was about a 10-15 minute wait for our drinks, so we just looked around the store. I was a huge fan of all the pastries we tried especially the chocolate pistachio baklava. I have been here several times, and I have always received super great service. I go with the intention of just buying the Turkish coffee but I always end up getting other items as well. It is a Middle Eastern grocery store but I was pleasantly surprised to see Mexican products being sold there as well. There is a friendly employee who greets me at the door when I first walk in. The atmosphere throughout the store is happy and mellow, which makes it a very easy shopping experience especially if it's your first time. Not a single flatbread package shows a use-by, best-buy, or packed-on date. Supposedly, I should take their word and assume it's fresh. In addition, many of the flatbread packages don't even list a single ingredient used to make them, which is unusual in today's world of transparency. The section where coffee is served and manakeesh are baked attracts the most customers. But the area is very confined and uncomfortable due to poor spacing by the owners. I ordered a manakeesh topped with za'atar. Good taste, but overly salted and before I even reached my vehicle, a good amount of oil had seeped through the bottom of their flimsy container. We're here visiting our daughter and decided to make some Kebabs and other Mediterranean dishes. Found Blue Fig Farms here on Yelp. The good news is it's a fantastic store. Clean, friendly and great quality food and goods. The bad news is we don't live here so we won't be able to shop here as much as we'd like to. The meat department is all halal, and I can tell they only sell fresh meat. There are so many unique brands on the shelves that you won't find easily anywhere else. We noticed that everything we picked up and looked at had expiration dates far out. No trying to sell expired products. Our kababs using a mixture of ground lamb and ground beef and various spices was off the charts! Such tasty meat!! We're from the San Francisco Bay Area which has quite a number of middle eastern/Mediterranean stores throughout the region and not one comes close to Blue Fig Farms!! Definitely gonna bring a cooler every time we come visit our daughter so we can stock up on our way home! read more
