To my confused and shocked self, the girl (long black/dark brown hair with big eyes) told me that I never ordered a pretzel. So your telling me I paid 8.50 for a tall drink? If that's the case then this is way overpriced for not even a good drink. I got scammed and I felt ashamed and embarrassed in public and I will never be coming back.

Unfortunately, this location lacks outlets, too. Also, there isn't any comfy seating and tables through out the store. (The cafe has a few tables and hard chairs.) Inside, the store gives a nostalgic feel, with a few old Underwood typewriters displayed to give even more an old-timey punch. I easily navigated my way through the store, seeing the different genre sections clearly posted (Poetry, Non-fiction, etc.). I bought two books at $17.95 ea, but found others that interested me at around $24.95 ea. Not all books are sticker price labeled...on older books, they write a price in pencil inside book on front page! As a local (Wisconsin) writer, it's nice to find a bookstore that offers selected writings in an atmospheric way that big chain-stores just cannot duplicate!

This is DeKalb's only independent bookstore other than the adult one. It's run out of what used to…read morebe a garage in back of the main building at 115 N. 1st Street; hours are limited and the stock doesn't rotate much. Still, they have an awful lot of books packed into a small space, and the proprietor - a retired professor who's just looking to break even - is very helpful. He'll help you find what you're looking for, and if you're interested in something there isn't much demand for - such as books in French - he may be able, if you call ahead, to grab some out of storage for you. Prices are reasonable.
