Aight, here's the run down…read more I've been on the hunt for a good barber without breaking the bank for a long time. My hair grows out FAST, and I need a cut every two weeks. Anything pushing it is asking for trouble. At first, I was kind of iffy of giving this place a shot because I guess the general rule of the thumb is: if you're Asian, go to an Asian barber/stylist. So eff it, I gave this place a shot, been here about 4 times, and I left every time feeling super satisfied. I've been only going to James for the 4 times, and every time is a quick cut, done the way I want it, and some barber shop talks about basketball. TL;DR: A grown man hair cut is $10. Don't forget to tip.

I've unfortunately paid upwards of $30 for haircuts that didn't come out half as good and precise as the cut I got at Perfect Style. I keep mentioning price, so you're probably wondering how much the haircut was already. $10. I kid you not. Ten. One Zero. I was in disbelief when I learned that a "perfect style" haircut was only $10. At first, I was kind of nervous going into the situation. After all, the phrase "Ten Dollar Haircut" isn't exactly an endearing one. However, despite paying $10 for the haircut, I left with a "Fifty Dollar Haircut". I don't know how they do it. I almost felt guilty leaving the place, having only paid $10 for such an outstanding experience (although I did give Jake a good tip to help make up for it). I typed in Black Barber Shop into yelp (don't judge me), and this was one of the first that came up. I skimmed through the photos and narrowed it down to this shop and another one on the list, now it was time to do an in depth search of the barber who had the best skills with the clippers. After careful consideration I chose Black Label. For the next week or so I was glued to their Instagram page and constantly checking their yelp like a true stalker. I knew right away I wanted the guy with all the tattoos to do my cut, I searched and searched and finally someone mentioned his name LONG! What a perfect fit, because it took me a long behind time to find out who I had been obsessed with for the preceding 7 days! Finally I went to the website and booked the next available appointment. So Tuesday came I couldn't wait to get in Longs chair to get my cut! My friend came to get me and we took the very short drive over to the shop where there was surprisingly so much parking even after the storm. We went upstairs and I walked into the shop with the dorkiest look on my face grinning as I asked for Long, he was just finishing up another client and I took my seat. Immediately I noticed how immaculately clean the shop was and how quiet and respectful the other barbers were. Long came over introduced himself, shook my hand and we headed to his chair. I showed him a few pictures and he listened to every intricate detail I mentioned to achieve my desired cut! During the cut I got to know so much about him because I was giving him an impromptu interview since I had been stalking his whole life for the past week. After he was finished it was time for the reveal... if you've ever gotten a major haircut before you know the feeling of the final chair spin before you see the mirror and OMG OMG OMG I freaking LOVE MY HAIRCUT!!! After trying a few of the barbers, we learned that Leopold is our favorite and does the best job for us. --Barber recommended: Leopold-- One of my kids always got a fine haircut anywhere we went, but the other has had quite a few weird cuts by professional stylists. I don't know why. Maybe his hair grows in a particularly unusual way? Try LEOPOLD if you, too, have hard-to-cut hair and have suffered elsewhere. --Location & good service-- Anyway, I can't say enough good things about this convenient location and its nice, professional employees. Prior to the pandemic, we would just walk in. After its pandemic reopening, the policy switched to appointment only to reduce crowding. I actually prefer a booked appointment since I dislike waiting, so this worked fine for my family. --COVID specific concern-- Right now, in October 2021, however, we have to find a new barbershop. Though Yelp still lists "masks required" and "staff wear masks" for Montserrat Barber Shop, this was no longer true when my husband went in for a cut last month. Some people in the shop wore masks, but it was clearly now optional as others were bare-faced. (I sincerely hope based upon vaccination status, but my husband did not ask this question.) If you are vaccinated and comfortable to be face-to-face with others indoors without masks, I still recommend this shop. If you are at very high risk for COVID-19 complications in spite of being vaccinated--like a member of our household--hold off on visiting Montserrat Barber Shop until this delta variant surge ends. Since Salem enacted a universal indoor mask mandate, we will search for a temporary hair salon option there (though I sincerely hate setting foot in Salem during the month of October.) As an aside, I wish Yelp and other review sites were more proactive about keeping these vital stats updated. These services offer far less value when facts change and listings go out-of-date.

The waiting area was comfortable with AC and tv. After waiting 5 minutes Leopold asked if I was ready. He was very professional, fast and did an excellent job. Shared parking lot outside for parking, is a one man operation with online booking available. I was just fortunate to get there between bookings.
