I'm updating this review because I'm very disappointed. As you can see by my review at the time, I did have a great experience with a knowledgable, nice, professional, experienced piercer. I have a lot of piercings and I know how to properly take care of/clean piercings. I had even got other piercings (from another shop) around the same time I got these done at blue lotus. BUT, after about 2-3 months my piercings (helix on each ear) weren't healing, only getting infected. I was cleaning them properly and not touching them etc. I know the helix has a hard time healing in general too. But the right ear started to get really painfully infected with the bump and oozing etc. I tried to reverse it but it just kept getting worse and worse so I eventually took it out. I was like "ok it happens. Not too worried or upset about it cause I still have the one in the left ear". Well, another few weeks and that ones infection got worse as well. Even worse than the right ear so I had to choice but to take it out. I didn't want to risk any further damage. I was pretty bummed. Especially because I paid $100 total (overpriced for the helix) for the piercings/jewelry. So I decided to email the owner/piercer. Just telling her what happened and asked if we could do a discount or a free piercing or something to make up for it. I still wanted her to do it cause I liked her and she's very professional. But I got NO RESPONSE. it's been weeks. I'm extremely disappointed she couldn't even respond back to me to try to work something out. I wasn't asking for my money back or anything. Because I haven't even got a response or anything I will never go back to her or recommend her to anyone. Super bummed and disappointed. This place is awesome. The owner/piercer Christine is a doll!!! Me and my little cousin went in wanting our cartilage (helix) pierced together and Christine was so awesome she even stayed late to do it for us. She is extremely kind and professional. She has all medical grade materials and sterilization and very clean. The jewelry is good quality (titanium I believe?). We were both so nervous and excited and scared and she made us at ease. She went through everything thoroughly first and then we went back to start the piercings. She explained every thing she was doing, when she was doing it. It was so easy and calming. Our piercings look and feel great and because of the amazing experience we had with her, I will only ever go to her for piercings!!! I was referred to Christine by my tattoo artist because I wanted to get a forward helix piercing. Christine got me in in a very timely manor and was professional and polite. She mentioned the jewelry she would be using was high quality and to follow up with her in a few months to potentially get a smaller piece since swelling will go down and I may not need as large of a bar. I got the piercing in February of 2018 and contacted her in November of 2018 to inquire about how to remove the piercing since it would not unlatch or slide off like a normal backing. She has never gotten back to me. I had left voicemails, texts and stopped by but the door was locked (potentially due to a private piercing as she mentions she does) but have never heard back from her. At first, I was very happy with the service and payed $119 for the double helix piercing but from the lack of follow up I am really disappointed and expected better. I am a Baby Boomer. I have never set foot in a tattoo parlor and I pierced my own ears years ago. But after having earrings in both ear lobes rip out, resewn, re-pierced and rip out again, I knew I needed help and I found Blue Lotus. Christine is like a medical technician/scientist when it comes to piercings. Everything in her shop is sterilized and so clean and organized. She was very careful about my healing resewn ear lobe. She thoroughly explained how long the healing process would be, how to keep the piercings clean, in addition to written instructions. I wish I would have been able to get my piercing done here! I'm from out of the area and was traveling with a new piercing. It was irritating me and I just wasn't sure if it was a good idea to change it yet so I found this place on yelp and dropped by on my way out of town. Christine (I believe) checked my piercing out and talked me through it a bit. She recommended I leave it in for another week before I change it and then explained to me why it was a good idea not to change it just yet including what happens to your body when you get this type of piercing. She is very, obviously educated, experienced, and trained in what she does. She also reassured me that I likely didn't need to wait the 2 months my piercer told me to wait but to keep an eye out for a few things before I actually change it. In the process of blowing my nose, my 10 yo nose piercing got lost in the process. Did a quick yelp search and this spot was the first to come up. While I had to wait a hot minute because the owner was busy with a piercing, there was hot tea available and the shop was cool to check out. The owner was super nice while I hemmed and hawed over which new nose ring I liked, holding them over my arm to see how each looked with my skin tone (never touching my skin or hers, they were in their sanitary case). have to say I had the most professional experience here starting with the phone call to ask about simple pricing for a septum piercing. the Girl who answered, as a later realized was Christine ( the owner of the clean, cute and personable shop) seized my trust because she immeadiately converted my blatant pricing question into a description of what the pricing entailed, what the appointment would be like, and the type of first jewelry she recommended and why for the healing process. That alone was well above and beyond any of the conversations is had else where. to not make this long winded; I will say everything was above and beyond what I expected. The Storefront was welcoming , pretty, there was tea and cookies ( noted this as super thoughtful sign always at a place where a person could faint). Christine is obviously no stranger to body modification and the fact that her adorable mother was visiting her for a moment made me smile. Christines communication during the septum piercing process, healing, and her saftey and cosmetic considerations reguarding the piercing placement on my face put me at ease throughout the process. The pain was only for a moment, and I felt like I was in a really experienced professional's hands. I also was impressed and put at ease as we chatted and I learned that the had worked in a medical field before she was a piercer. Her tact was that good in education and piercing process. She even took extra time to see in my abandoned tongue piercing was still open at my request ( I was curious) and gave me some solid information on her concerns about tongue piercings in general. Absolutely love this piercing place!! My friend used to go to their old San Rafael location and referred me to their new one in Petaluma and I'm so glad she did. I came in with my friend a couple weeks ago and we were greeted by Christine, the owner, who is SO sweet and rad. She makes you feel confident in whatever piercing you're getting and her prices are VERY reasonable. A plus was that my friend got 3 piercings and was even told that she could use old jewelry for her new ones (Christine sterilized the jewelry for her). I was taught of the dangers of mall piercings a very long time ago. (I'm serious, a quick google search will give you a ton of info.) So, when it came time to pierce my baby girl's ears I knew I would find a professional piercer, not a 17 year old girl with a dirty piercing gun and dull, unsterilized earring posts. Well, at 12 months old, both grandmothers were hounding to get her ears pierced and that's when we found Christine. She's sweet, very knowledgeable and was all around professional and extremely patient with all of us, especially my daughter as she didn't make it easy on anyone. She even told us to call her at any time if we have any questions or concerns as her business line forwards to her cell phone when she's not there. Keep in mind that there are more steps with a professional piercer, such as the piercing first happens with a needle and then the jewelry is placed in the fresh piercing. Also, a human hand can not pierce at the speed of a gun so, the slower process can make for a bit of a more stressful experience however, I wouldn't do it any other way. No one wants to put their child through pain but my daughter was over it by the time we left. I also love the jewelry that Christine offers because they don't have the traditional "backings" like other earrings. Overall, despite the lack of "mall convenience," I highly recommend Christine for all of your piercing needs. We now have an even more adorable baby girl with perfectly healthy lobe piercings. Took my daughter here yesterday to get her second ear piercing and her cartilage pierced. I also got my nose pierced. Christine is very thorough. She helped us pick out our jewelry, made sure we saw everything was sterilized and auto claved. She uses high quality needles and the piercings were nearly painless. She noticed that my daughter's previously pierced and now closed second holes were uneven and she corrected it when she repierced.
