For my 15th piece, I'm quite fortunate to have found Valkyrie in the off-main community of Penngrove. A very easy going feel here. Tatt shops rarely feel this relaxed to me. It's an edgy business putting ink on people, so I really appreciate a less intense vibe. Toni Stirling and I worked on the design a bit by email, and she had it ready for outlining when I arrived. She has a good light touch, expertly accomplishing the initial design while we chatted about life. It's healing quickly. Looking forward to color and finishing touches, and planning the next one! JEN is a rockstar! I've been going to her for 2 years now. She is a true artist with an awesome personality to go with it. She has an incredible eye for color and detail. She created a gorgeous rainforest piece on my side filled with animals and exotic plants. I had a hideous lion on my ribs that she was able to re work and flow her art below and above it. The shop has a comfortable atmosphere with other friendly tattoo artists. Everyone gets along with one another, no drama shop! They have badass crazy art on the walls. Has a grunge metal feel to it. A lot of artists are stuck in their ways and aren't easy to talk to. Jen on the other hand is very patient, open to suggestions, and always listens to what her clients want. She also has the lightest hand of any tattoo artist that has ever tatted me. She takes care of her clients making sure you're comfortable and happy! I would give them six stars if I could. I have been thinking about getting a tattoo for a little over five years but I had been letting my fears get the better of me. I practice Nichiren Buddhism (we chant Nam Myoho Renge Kyo) and I had a turning point in my practice, where I realized that it was time for me to stand up and face my fears head on. My determination to get a tattoo was my concrete action to do exactly that and my tattoo was a reflection of my dedication to the practice. I had heard about Valkyrie Tattoo from a friend who has gotten multiple tattoos there. I asked him why and he told me that he really liked the vibe and the people working there were really cool. I have heard stories of other tattoo shops where there is a condescending attitude toward newbies. I did not feel an ounce of that here. No tattoo snobbery but really down-to-Earth. I went in about three weeks ago and Annabelle at the front desk was super helpful and friendly. She heard my concerns, answered my questions and talked to me with a deep level of compassion and sincerity. I gave Jen the artwork during that visit and emailed with her, back-and-forth, several times before my visit. I told her about the spiritual journey and what brought me to get the tattoo. I feel like she really understood how important to me and understood how significant this decision was for me and I felt like she takes her work very seriously. It is not just about making money but really helping the client feel satisfied with their decisions. Not only did she does a marvelous job with helping me pick a size, location and alignment but she was incredibly gentle, not just in how she handled the tattoo needle but in how she listened and interacted with. She has a great depth of compassion, I was really touched by her approach and energy. She made my experience very, very fulfilling. Why it has taken me so long to write a review of Valkyrie, I will never know. But better late than never! I've been inked by both Jen and Adam. Jen actually fixed a botched tattoo that I had gotten six months before in my home state and added to it. The original artist chewed up the inside of my wrist and left me with a faded out Wonder Woman tattoo that looked ten years old instead of a few months old. Jen fixed it and made it look beautiful! Adam was very kind and considerate - he inked the inside of my other wrist with the name of my beloved Cora just days after she passed last November. He knew exactly what I wanted and was totally fine with me sitting in the chair crying as we talked about her. I am planning yet ANOTHER visit to Valkyrie in the very near future and am excited to see what beautiful work I will walk away with! read more

I don't know what to say other than posting a photo of my jailhouse tattoo. The photo on the left was our inspiration photo. My cousin and I came to Valkyrie last March for matching tattoos and unfortunately left with a permanent marking of Nikki's bad attitude. We received a refund, but are quite unsure of how this will be covered up. I live on the east coast, and only see my sweet cousin once every few years. I finally found her..the tattoo artist I've sought my whole life! Jen came on recommendation by a woman I stopped in the market and after reviewing her portfolio online, I was totally impressed. I emailed her my design and by the time I got to the shop, she had it all ready for me. Not just that, Jen took the time to explore the color options and placement and her patience with me was wonderful! I had this done on my shoulder and maybe it was the location but this was the most gentle tat I've ever had. Her pressure was consistent throughout the process and that, to me, is a sign of an expert. Jen will be doing my next tat which is a re-do of a very old one. After seeing her other re-do's there was no question she is "the one". Plus - she's a great conversationalist and a very bright woman. read more

I give this parlor 3.5 stars. The service was good, and I got what I asked for. I could have been much more clear on what I wanted, but what I walked away with was less than perfect. Make sure you know exactly what you want when you walk in. Do not settle for less. It has been a couple months since I got my tat here, and I still look at it with sad eyes... there are thick lines where there shouldn't be, and mess ups that the artist said would "go away" after a few years......
