Breakfast? 5 stars. Dinner? Different story. The food is very good but WOW the service is different. Naturally breakfast is always going to be quicker, but we waited 50 minutes to be served dinner. I've never written a negative review before but I am truly disappointed and puzzled by the positive rating for this establishment. I had chosen to come here for brunch with my boyfriend because we were shopping outside of the city and this place was the only restaurant that appeared to have fresh, healthy options and good reviews in the general area. It was busy when we arrived but we were seated after some time awkwardly standing by the front door waiting for someone to approach us. The dining area is rather small and they have an open kitchen. My boyfriend ordered the Irish Stuffed Potato Skins off their house specials list and I ordered an omelette with gluten free toast and hash browns. When our food arrived I noticed they had put cheddar instead of the feta cheese I had ordered in my omelette and had to wait several minutes to flag a server down to get it remade. Meanwhile, my boyfriend took a bite of his food and looked disgusted - he started scraping the hollandaise off the eggs and then eventually gave up and just ate the toast because he felt eating more would make him sick. When my food arrived it was mediocre at best - the veggies in my omelette didn't seem fresh - it seemed to be thrown together without much care. The hash browns were somehow already lukewarm and had a soggy consistency more like mashed potatoes and the gluten free toast seemed to be very old. I also didn't finish my plate because I was genuinely worried about getting sick. Peering into the open kitchen didn't give me any confidence in the sanitation of this place, it looked grimy, dusty and disorganized. Echoing other reviewers here - I think the high ratings must be grounded in the lack of competition in the area....or complete lack of taste. read more

This little restaurant, styled after a Itialian Bistro, has alot going for it. That being said let us tell you that it still has a way to go to get our 5 stars rating. Our usual fare of 2 over easy, home fries, bacon and hash were a mixed bag. The fries were very tasty but seemed on the dry side and did not seem to have been freshly prepared. Eggs were done to perfection and the highlight of the meal. Bacon..done toooo well. One serving of hash was much too salty, while the other was very good. Service was fast and friendly. Atmosphere cozy and clean. Prices reasonable. Our advice..go and support this young couple but don't set you expectations higher than what you might get at home....for us thats's pretty good but not perfect. Blue moon has quickly become yet another local Main St. Gem! Their menu is creative, but most important the flavor is nothing short of spectacular. Their italian stuffed french toast is by far one of my favorite dishes. OMG! But I have to say It is all simply delicious! I drive from Stoneham and I've tried so many breakfast restaurants in the surrounding towns. The Blue Moon grill has definitely set the standard! Let me explain my 2 star review, food was 3 stars, overall experience was 1 star. We arrived here around 11:30am on a Sunday morning, we put our name in and the waitress said about 20 minutes and certainly no more than 25 minutes. We had an errand to run so we did that, and then hurried back to Blue Moon to make it in time for 25 minutes of wait time. Well, that was dumb because we didn't get seated until 12:45pm- no lie. If we had known the wait would've been anything over 35 minutes, we would've left and gone elsewhere. I understand the place is tiny and sometimes you can be off with wait times, but we waited an hour and 15 minutes to be seated. Anyways, starving and grumpy, my boyfriend and I were seated at the same time as another couple. Apparently the other couple knew the waitress very well, and after taking their order, the waitress said "don't worry, I bumped up your orders". When she came to us to take our order, when she left she said "this is going to take a long time because we got in so many orders before yours right now." Ugh. The couple next to us got their food, ate, and left before we even got ours. I got the eggs, hashbrowns, and toast with a side of chocolate chip pancakes and my boyfriend got the omlet and shared the pankcakes with me. I was hoping that after this entire ordeal we would've finished our meals saying, "the food was worth the wait", but unfortunately the food is just average. The pancakes were so thick and dry I couldn't even eat them. We've been to other breakfast/brunch places that were much better. At the end of it, we wrapped up our brunch experience at almost 2pm. This place is AMAZING! By far the best breakfast place in the area. You can tell by the line of people out the door every weekend. The food is so worth the wait, I will often order to go on the busy weekends though. I could seriously eat the Mediterranean Omelette for breakfast every day it's so delicious. They have amazing specials, the Irish Eggs Benedict are to die for if you are a lover of corn beef hash. And another good dish is the Sunrise Burrito. Honestly, everything I have had here is amazing. I went once and have since brought more than 10 people with me (not at the same time) and each of them have all been back with there friends and family regularly. I love that the menu has unique options that you would not see on a traditional breakfast menu, such as the sweet potato hash browns. There are so many things I want to try! The dishes are very large and filling. Almost everyone in the restaurant was asking for doggy bags to wrap up their leftovers. Our waitress was very friendly, efficient, and welcoming. FAB-U-LOUS! I've been here three times, and each time have loved it--the menu is refreshingly unique, the food is excellent, and the portions and prices are good. Their corn beef hash is homemade (or at least tastes that way!), the pancakes come in so many varieties and everything--even the "diner" iced coffee--is good, good, good! I have found the staff to be both friendly and attentive each time. Highly recommend. Terrible food and extremely terrible customer service. **IF YOU HAVE A FOOD ALLERGY, DO NOT GO HERE** I went to Blue Moon Grill with my fiancé based on the positive reviews on Yelp. I ordered plain gluten free pancakes from our waitress, she asked if I wanted whipped cream & powdered sugar- I said "No, nothing on them I have a gluten allergy." When we received our meals, I was delivered regular pancakes with whipped cream and powdered sugar. When I spoke up and told another waitress (who was a middle aged woman) she told me (a 27 year old woman) that next time I need to "speak up" and tell the waitress I wanted nothing on it. I informed her that I had told that to our waitress, she walked away disgruntled. I then received new pancakes, but was worried since my original order was wrong that I would break out in hives since nobody in the restaurant clarified if the new order was gluten free or not when I was handed them. About 5-10 minutes later when she came by the table, my fiancé asked our waitress if they were gluten free- as she walked away from him she said, "Yep, we take it very seriously!" She couldn't even stop to discuss or look my fiancé in the eye. Mind you it wasn't even busy in the restaurant at all. This is also a middle aged woman- not a teenager. The wait was a little longer the we were told it would be but it's a small place so expect to wait and don't go with a big group of people. Kitchen looks really clean and seems like the chefs know what their doing. Took a while for food to come out but that's not always a bad thing, means everything was fresh and done right. Had breakfast here for the first time today. I really liked it. My meal was great! Service was great too. Very welcoming and friendly. Good prices too. Its a bit cramped. At times i could barley have a conversation without being interrupted by the neighboring tables. But that is overlooked because the food is really good. The menu is very creative. Great variety. Numerous variations of pancakes and eggs Benedict. I cant wait to try the pumpkin pancakes next. I can't rave about this place enough. The food is fantastic, inexpensive, and served with a smile. The servings are nicely sized, and they do a terrific job on the basics like eggs, pancakes and french toast, but they have awesome dishes like Irish stuffed potato skins and crab meat eggs benedict. The only drawback can be the wait- with less than 30 seats in the whole restaurant, and food this good, it can get pretty crowded. But the staff is great, though, and if you call ahead your name goes on the list and you'll get an accurate wait time. Best breakfast place on the North Shore. read more
