I've had many menu items but some highlights that will provide a solid snap shot for Yelpers are: Sliced avocados fresh and great, eggs benedict a 10, as good as anywhere or better, the home fries/potatoes are not greasy or heavy, hash is similar in that not too greasy, light and fresh (I mean these are potatoes and hash so not light but as light and clean as this kind of thing can be), you would be safe to order anything. Was in need of a omelette and this is the closet place to me, I had a western with bacon no ham and my friend had the chicken salad. They have a open kitchen concept so you can see everything while it's been cooked. We were there during peak brunch hours on a Sunday no reservations needed just a mom and pop diner feel. The food is okay for what it is. Nothing to write home about. The grill is visible to diners at the barstools which I like because I get to watch my food being made. I noticed that the guy on the grill would touch the food with his hands and wipe them on his dirty apron in between and the woman on register was handling the phones and cash and then buttering toast without gloves or washing. Another man was just coming in and out the entire time from cigarette breaks and then would jump in to serve food smelling like an ash trash and also without washing up. My mom and nana went out to breakfast this morning, so I looked on Yelp for a new local place. I'm always surprised at the places I didn't know existed! Being a Wednesday morning, I wasn't surprised to see only two tables sitting down and 2 people at the counter. Upon walking in, the cook (I'm assuming an owner) greeted us. It's small inside but very clean and cute. Our waitress (assuming the other owner) was very sweet. I got the route 2 (2 eggs, 2 pancakes with your choice of meat) and a side of toast. My mom and nana both got coffee and omelettes that came with home fries and toast. Portions were very big and none of us finished and prices were very reasonable. I will be back! I got the biggest one, the Route 5 combination. It came with 3 eggs cooked to your liking, a heaping serving of thick, crispy homefries, 2 giant pancakes, and 3 sausages (you can get bacon instead). All for $10! Every element of the dish was cooked very well, other than the pancakes which were a bit dry. Went here for the first time yesterday on a quest to try different places in Melrose. I agree with the other commenters that the initial impression is interesting and that no one is there to greet you or tell you it is self seating. Perhaps a sign could solve these problems? Also, there is ZERO room to wait inside. Once we were seated after about 5 minutes, our order was taken and we began the wait. It seems like they were busy, but I don't get how. The place is super small so only so much can really be going on at a time. We ordered silver dollar pancakes with a side of bacon and home fries and one of the egg plate combinations. My home fries were forgotten, the toast for the egg plate was forgotten and it took quite some time to get anyone's attention so these things could be rectified. Getting up to get someone was difficult based on how small the interior space is and how close the tables were together (I'm currently in a walking boot). Overall, food was good but extremely overpriced. I know we will be back to give it another shot, especially based on proximity to our apartment so we shall see! read more

The atmosphere is super casual and very comfty. If you're looking to snuggle up on the couch it's okay because they do take out too! It's located in the train parking lot...but that's a pay lot. Park on the street instead. Both Hurd and West Wyoming have on street parking. My favorite menu item is the salmon eggs Benedict. It come with hash browns that are always perfectly cooked and spiced to perfection. If you're a sweet breakfast kind of person the raisin French toast is really yummy and so are the banana walnut pancakes. The staff is super friendly and are always smiling. My husband I have been coming here for breakfast/brunch at least once a month for several years now. They have never disappointed us. The food is always very affordable and delicious, and the staff is warm and attentive. We love that you can look around at the staff and see that many of them are related to one another. This is truly a family-owned and operated business. Much of the waitstaff recognizes us as returning customers and engages in friendly banter with us, something that can't be said of most of the other establishments we frequent. Woah... Melrose Diner serves some heaping portions! In all my years being a Melrose resident, I had never tried out this place (or its predecessor, Coffee Time). I just knew it as the place where all the police officers and DPW folks would spend their morning breaks. Anyway, there's quite a bit of breakfast competition in this area, with Cappa's down the street and My Diner over on Main St. Melrose Diner has certainly carved out its niche with the huge portions and decent prices. Normally I'm turned off by most omelets because they seem so basic. Like Sausage and Cheese or Spinach and Feta are great, but is that really ALL you're putting in it?? Maybe it's just my preference to have an omelet that's mostly filling and bursting at the seams. I got the Veggie Omelet here and it was perfect, complete with approximately 1 million vegetables inside. If I had to size this gargantuan serving, it was about 4" x 9" x 1.5". Just think about how big that is for a second. It's about half the size of a pan of brownies... The service was good. My friend and I were called "boys" every 5 seconds by the waitress, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing, but it was noteworthy. "Coming right up, boys". "Here you go, boys". "Thanks for coming, boys". I'm almost 30. Nevertheless, she was kind and attentive. The atmosphere was basic diner. They had a tv on in the corner, but it was not audible, and a second tv that was not on. We went rather late in the morning so it cleared out by the time we finished. Because of this it became awkwardly quiet. Turn up that volume! So, considering the competition, would I go back? Sure. Two waitpersons. Told to sit anywhere we like, which we did. 10 minutes later, nobody had offered us water or coffee, much less stopped by to see if we were ready to order. We got here on Sunday morning around 11:20 am we waited for 5 min we sat at the bar, the portions in this place are huge as seen in the picture and the food it's amazing my favorite part was the home fries. This diner is a hidden gem in Melrose. I discovered it a while ago but it is one of my go to places for breakfast or lunch now. The folks running the place are very friendly. The food is excellent! My favorites are the Sausage Benedict and the Reuben Sandwich. I prefer to spend my money at a Mom & Pop place rather than a chain and I feel good supporting this small business that is providing a great value for the dollar to the local community. read more
