Had breakfast there last week. It's changed hands & new owners have brought in their own recipes, not the same food. . It's gone from my favorite local place to one that that's crossed off the list. Food was good, but service was very bad. Server deliberately ignored us multiple times throughout the meal. Took at least 10 mins for her to come by to take our order. At least the omelet and breakfast burrito were good. We were there on a weekday and the space was half full, but it took 25+ mins to get the bill after we finished our meal. All attempts to flag the server down were blatantly ignored. I finally stood at the cash register to pay and she walked by me several times, and continued to ignore me until I held up my card and asked if I could pay. Can't really recommend this place. 3 stars because the food was okay and it's a clean space. But the service sucks and I probably deleted brain cells listening to Fox news blaring on the TV. Won't be returning. read more

Cute little cafe inside, but it got very chaotic and loud once it got busy. One server and one woman working the desk for all the tables. They were super kind but clearly busy. read more

I just had a really good breakfast Carols Cafe of Wakefield I got the #6 - Three eggs, bacon well done, home fries, blueberry pancakes, and Italian bread. Ya'll, it was really good. The bacon was crispy like I like it, the home fries were from the bottom of the pile (if you know you know), the eggs were decent could have been a bit fluffier but they were fine, the pancakes were the star!! Fluffy with crispy edges! So good. The coffee came in an oversized mug. It was huge and there was no need for a refill. I spoke with the owner. I think her name is Kim. She told me they used to be in Everett for 30 years and moved here 3 years ago. This was right around the time COVID hit. They were open for 3 weeks and needed to close right back down. I asked what she did during that time and she shared that she donated over 10,000 meals to support people locally! That made me smile and was definitely a story worth sharing. The place isn't huge but it's decorated really cute and the bathroom was decorated like a bathroom in a cool little beach house. It's located right along the commuter rail tracks and there is free parking on the street right outside. I did a search for pancakes on NSE and saw an old post of this spot. Glad I tried it. Best pancakes I've ever eaten! They had an almost funnel cake taste to them. My baby loved the home fries and eggs. My toddler loved the fruit plate (banana, strawberry, blueberry) and the bacon. Everything was cooked well. Great family establishment with a happy vibe. read more

Get ready! Carol's is opening soon for dinner! Columbian food. We dined on the most delicious shrimp tacos, ribs, and other Columbian treats last night during the "soft" opening. If you can, go. It is a small place and you won't be able to get in when it opens and people discover this food! There is always chicken soup; the appetizer corn dip was out of this world; the service is thorough - it's like you are home and your mom wants to make sure you have enough to eat. This is a welcome addition to Wakefield restaurants. Also, an important point for me - very clean. I found out about the night opening because I have breakfast at Carol's every Tuesday on my way to my painting class. I wanted to support Jenny; I knew the food would be good, but I was amazed at how delicious it was! My companion wants to come back as often as we can!!!! Best service I've ever had! Fast and super nice! We went on Valentine's Day so I'm assuming it was busier than usual but everything was super fast and yummy. Also the best pancakes I have ever had and pancakes normally are nothing special to me lol! Also thought I may add it was clearly a family run business and one woman was practically running the show out front so I'd just ignore the one star reviews complaining about the service! Great service and great food. I was very impressed with the quickness of our server, she made time to talk with and check in with each table even while serving the entire restaurant. The food was good and coffee were. The restaurant was clean but with the smaller space wasn't a whole lot of seating, so I could see during a weekend there being a wait. Adorable little diner at the train station. Very fair prices, the biggest coffees in town (and will give you a cup for takeaway at the end of meal), basic bfast dishes done well. Staff are hard working and very friendly. Love the toy bin for kiddies. Definitely recommend!! read more

Place was pretty good, but nothing special imo. The restaurant is cozy and friendly, so that's a plus. The portions are big and what I had was good. Service was a bit slow. I think Carol may have actually served me. She was super friendly and energetic, but slow. I could hear her in numerous conversations while I waited for a long time to pay my tab. She walked by several times without grabbing my credit card and it was not busy. Food was good overall, but hash and hash browns a bit over cooked. So it was good but I've had plenty of better breakfasts. Also, please turn off FOX News. I don't need clownish propaganda with my eggs. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place!!! It started with the service and coffee and ended with the best breakfast we've hade during our travels! It's the cutest little restaurant with the sweetest most beautiful women taking care of everyone and making sure their food and drinks are perfection! We're leaving in the morning to head to Maine but not before we have breakfast here again! Don't miss out on this little gem it is definitely the place for breakfast! Oh and the price is on point! This is a great little breakfast spot that just opened in what used to be a Chinese restaurant. The ambiance is cute, with fun signs and a light atmosphere. The food is made to order and tasty. The eggs, home fries, toast (Scali - yeah!), was cooked perfectly and yummy. They even have a special table for young kids. Highly recommended! read more

Ordered for the first time from here via Uber eats- delivery was great and although there was some minor spillage from the boxes, everything stayed in place for the most part. We ordered the corn beef hash, biscuits and gravy (yum!), the eggs Benedict, and the three egg breakfast. Everything was great besides my eggs Benedict, which I'll include a picture of. There was no hollandaise sauce on it and just seemed like there was a thin layer of butter put on it. The eggs were cooked nicely but the potatoes could've used a bit more seasoning. I'm just hoping that the lack of the hollandaise sauce was an honest mistake. We will be ordering from here again in the future. read more

Attempted to phone order breakfast this morning, no answer. Went to location, door was locked 6:35am, sign says "Open Daily 6:30am", so I knocked. Gentleman came from around the corner/kitchen & I waved at him. He proceeded to turn around and walk back to the kitchen. He did NOT come out to greet me or even acknowledge me or address that his establishment was unable to open at the posted time. I waited until 7am and called the restaurant & spoke to the gentleman, he explained he had a late night fundraiser at the Aquarium and his help wasn't there when I was at the restaurant front door. He then told me to have a nice day and hung up the phone on me. I called back once again & the young lady who answered indicated it was her Dad and pleaded for me not to write a review. At this point the story changed, apparently there was a family emergency last night... Not sure who to believe, but I can tell you EXACTLY where to go if you want to be disrespected! Do not give these people your money, they have no business sense and do not deserve to serve food to the general public. read more

Fantastic....we left the airport and got off the highway and Goggled places to eat. We saw Carol's Cafe and went not knowing what to expect. What we got was the best breakfast experience we've had in a long time. My ham and cheese omelette was the best omelette I have ever had and my wife had scrambled eggs and bacon and it was fantastic. The staff was amazing, attentive and friendly. I wish I lived closer because I would go there all the time. This place is the real deal when it comes to a local breakfast joint. I was in the neighborhood and decided to order takeout from this place. I looked at the menu online and decided on a couple breakfast sandwiches and a side of corned beef hash. The online platform (and Uber Eats) showed me a total of about $15. Figuring it would be about the same or a little cheaper in person, I placed the order over the phone. But when I got there and they rang me up they said around $22. Thinking I must've been mistaken, I paid the $22 (plus a tip) and asked for the receipt. Sure enough, nothing I ordered was explicitly on the receipt...just Generic Item - $6.99, Generic Item - $7.99, etc. So they blatantly overcharged me. Food was fine but I'd never go back. read more

The owner was very nice. It was a table for us right away. They handed us on menu, but they never came back. I thought maybe they were waiting for choices but then we left the menus together until the side of the table after sometime had gone by my daughter noticed, the people who came after us already taken their order my daughter didn't like this so we left. I usually get an American or Italian sub and they tend to be excellent, well-stuffed with the good meats, and on nice firm sub rolls. A reviewer claimed the rolls are old but I've never once gotten a stale one. It's possible the reviewer confused good crunchy Italian rolls with day-old rolls. As a connoisseur of good Italian bread, I look for rolls that are crunchy outside and firm inside and DiCara's are exactly that. They have a friendly staff who make the subs very quickly and never make a mistake on the order. The store has a lot of other food, for example, olive salads and tuna salad which my Mom liked. Also sometimes, you can find various cuttings left over from when the salami sticks near their end sealed up in plastic. Yum! They also have a number of imported products (not all from Italy). I like their imported pastas such as the big Rigatoni and Fusilli. They have some spices too--I always get the Rosemary from Cento. Oddly, they also have an excellent variety of potato chip brands--Utz, Cape Cod, Wachusett, Zapp's, Dirty, and sometimes Wise. Finally, they carry some nice cupcakes & desserts from nearby bakeries.

I arrived at 11:55 and the sub was waiting. When I got it home, I was so disappointed. The bread was very hard, to the point of being hard to chew. Also, the turkey was overcooked with very dry and almost burnt ends and the stuffing was extremely salty. I had asked for a small container of extra gravy and even adding this to the sub did not help at all. The sub was very hard to chew because of the roll and dry turkey. Luckily, I know they serve a quality product and I will return again. Everyone can have a bad day, and I guess this was theirs.

Carol's at Night!!!!! Amazing Food!!!! Just returned from an absolutely delicious meal!!! Lentil soup, corn appetizer and shrimp tacos - I have had them before but HAD to have them again!!! the new treat was the SALMON SOUP!!! l only tried it to be nice to Yenny, the chef, who was so excited for me to taste it. I am not crazy about salmon. I was shocked! The soup was absolutely delicious! Perfect! The broth was smooth, subtle and comforting; the salmon was so fresh, delicate, perfectly cooked! I would have bet $1000 that I would not like any salmon soup -- ever!!!! BUT I would have lost my money for sure! I can't wait to have that soup again. Everyone should experience it! I am afraid that when people discover this little hidden gem, I won't be able to get in without a long wait, but Yenny deserves recognition for the wonderful dishes offered at Carol's at Night! read more

They offer regular table seating, counter seats, and booths. The booths, however, are pretty uncomfortable--despite having a cushion, you immediately feel the wooden board underneath when you sit down, which takes away from the experience a bit. We went around 11:00 AM on a Saturday and were seated quickly with no wait, though I can imagine on a busier morning there could be a decent wait time given the diner's size. The menu has a good variety, but pricing can be a little confusing. Some menu prices don't always reflect the final cost due to fluctuating egg prices. There is a sticker noting this, but it's easy to miss and may not be obvious to customers. We ordered the steak and eggs, which came out to $20 and was cooked nicely to a true medium rare. The hash browns weren't overdone and had a great crunch on the outside. The pancake we tried was very fluffy, and their iced coffee was genuinely delicious. We also ordered the Double Double, which also cost $20 and offered a decent portion of food for the price, along with sausage links as a side. They do offer real maple syrup for waffles or pancakes, though it costs extra. One thing I found to be a flaw is that the maple syrup and ketchup on the table had no labels--personally, I like knowing the brand or ingredients of what I'm eating. The same went for the hot sauce they offered; it was served in an unlabeled glass bottle. It tasted very similar to Frank's RedHot and had the same consistency, but it would be nice to know for sure. The staff is kind and attentive when it comes to taking your order and delivering food, but once the plates hit the table, check-ins are minimal. If you need something, you may have to flag someone down. Parking isn't bad since it's located in a plaza, and there's additional parking in the back if the main lot fills up. Overall, Early Harvest Diner is a nice place to grab breakfast with your family or significant other without breaking the bank. The food quality is solid, but the vibe could benefit from a refresh to feel a bit more cozy and modern.
