I don't know how they took something as simple as a tuna sandwich and made it the best tuna I've ever had, but it was delicious. 2.5 stars. For what it is, it isn't bad but there are a lot of things it isn't! Pretty dirty and dingy, which I don't mind if it has some good overall character but there isn't much character here. Seriously who puts fluorescent lighting in a coffee shop. Anyhow, my decaf americano was OK, other than the fact that they had to sift around in a back cupboard for a pre-ground can of decaf espresso grounds. Partner's chai was alright, if not too sweet. With view of a beautiful Nuova Simonelli Aurelia, I began to expect that I would receive a proper espresso drink. What I got was an extremely bitter and disappointing shot. This is the second time visiting the Blue Moose. The first time, I received a cappuccino that was undrinkable. It seemed that the girl making the drink was new, so I chalked it up to that. My second visit is that of one on a Sunday morning with their regular crew. They merely go through the motions of pulling an espresso shot with what seems to be no eye on quality. The girl behind the counter was able to froth "decent" foam. If you want a proper pulled shot of espresso, visit Jay's Cafe. It's the only place in Morgantown that pulls a good shot. Understanding that pulling a good shot is tricky, I decided to try their coffee. Didn't ask what brand it was, but it tastes like a supermarket-bought dark roast. As much as I like to support small business, if Jay's Cafe is closed I'll be heading over to Starbucks. read more

Excellent beverages, very tasty vegan chili. The staff were beyond friendly: I always have specific instruction for how I like my drinks, and they just wrote it down and did it. The Blue Moose Cafe is an excellent place to get organic coffee, a decent espresso, and some pretty delicious breakfast. The atmosphere is extremely cozy, and there are board games and Wi-Fi, depending on how high or low tech you are feeling. Coffee is not that hard to come by in Morgantown, but this and Mountain Foods Co-Op are definitely the granola-iest places to obtain foodstuffs, and that, of course, is awesome. read more

This is a groovy little corner place. If you snag a parking spot on High St. you can just walk around the corner. They have an extensive java menu (look it up online, the only "menu" for drinks I noticed were on a chalkboard). They have good breakfasts. When you order at the counter, ask for the wifi passcode if you need it. Great place to read the paper and enjoy the morning, or meet with friends and chat it up. read more

My only two gripes are 1) The floor looks like it hasn't been cleaned in a decade and 2) it can get loud, depending on who is there. Great bowl of oatmeal with lots of fresh fruit. Very filling! Coffee was great, people were friendly, and there were plenty of menu options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They even have live entertainment some evenings. Great local vibe as well. Definitely recommend checking it out! read more

My recent travels have taken me places like Olympia Washington and Minneapolis Mn. I would say this little cafe and coffee shop in Morgantown WV has something to be proud of. Their espresso was delicious, smooth and rich. The food was tasty, not to salty. The gals working were pleasant and eccentric. I was happy to find a quaint-eclectic spot in such an interesting place. The best coffee I've ever had. I wait all year for the pumpkin spice roast. Great atmosphere, local art, and terrific coffee.

Options for breakfast in downtown Morgantown are almost non-existent, but even though the Blue Moose has a virtual monopoly they dish up really delicious and creative stuff. A different omelet special every day keeps you guessing, but I've never had one I didn't think was absolutely excellent. And of course they serve coffee, a nice organic house blend everyday and changing flavored and dark roasts every day, the usual lattes and cappucinos. There's free wifi, too, so you can check your email with your first cup of the morning. But the best thing about the Moose is the groovy friendly atmosphere. By your second visit somebody either behind the counter or sitting at it will likely greet you by name. A very interesting cast of characters comes through most mornings, so there's always something to keep you entertained, too. read more

I grab coffee there regularly. Imported fresh ground beans daily. Great home baked deserts, and granola fruit bowls. Try the coconut macaroons with Sumatra coffee. Believe me... um-mm. I frequent this place at least once a week and I love it. The food is wonderful. The granola bowl or the oatmeal is usually my "go-to" meal of choice. The variety and quantity of the fresh fruit on top is generous and NEVER disappointing. I also love their waffles for the same reason. My favorite drink here is the dirty chai. For those of you who don't know that that is... it's a chai tea latte with a shot of espresso. The chai they use is not a tea bag, it is a powder base and it comes in three flavor choices... vanilla, chocolate and spiced (sometimes raspberry). Also try the espresso milk shake. It is one of my favorites in the summertime. The only complaint about the espresso shake that I have is that, depending on WHO makes the shake, the taste and texture can be really inconsistent. This place is really relaxed and has a nice chill vibe. For that same reason the service can be slow at times. There have been times where they have just COMPLETELY forgot to place my order and bring me my food. This place is a main hang out for many of the locals and it has a hippy feel. Seriously not a thing in this place has changed since I was a little girl! Some things in life never change and Blue Moose is one of those things! I love that it is a small, successful, local-owned coffee shop. They also have Vegetarian options which is really nice!
