I worked with a different moving company 2 years ago that left me scarred for life with how rude and unprofessional they were. I ended up having to finish the job myself (moving my giant couch up four flights of stairs), so when I knew I was moving again, I did my due diligence and sought out a few quotes. Another company quoted me almost $800 and required a 3 hour minimum for the job!! $800 seemed steep and I knew the job wouldn't take that long... Along came Bookstore Movers who quoted me a reasonable $470 minimum for two hours of work and a maximum of $680 for 3.5 hours of work (price breakdown: $140 per hour with 2 hour min. plus a $190 truck fee). I received a quote within a few hours of requesting it. There was no deposit required and the date was booked. I received detailed emails leading up to the move about FAQs, tips for a seamless move, and the names of my crew including contact info for the crew lead. Abdul (crew lead), Niiwayo "Y.O", and Milly were SO fast and friendly. They wrapped every single item with care in drop cloths and got to moving immediately. Despite the 90 degree heat and a total of five flights of stairs, the job was finished in 2 hours. I was SO impressed. I was so traumatized by my last move that I literally had to walk away while they moved the couch in but before I knew it, I got a text from my boyfriend telling me they had fit it through the door and our living room was all set up. I was so relieved and happy to work with them. If and when we move again, (hopefully not anytime soon, lol), I will 100% be contacting Bookstore Movers... and you should too!

As this was unavoidable, I got on the hunt for a reputable, highly recommended moving company. And I was super duper happy to find A Few Good College Men. Their communication was great, the charges were clearly laid out, they arrived on time, and most importantly took the utmost care with my belongs and furniture. Clearly they have been in the business for a while, because the truck was loaded so intricately and with a lot of care. We had two stops - the first to drop off stuff to the house and the next to the storage unit. With both stops - I was really impressed with the professionalism. All in all, my husband and I both agree that they were excellent value for money; and I really felt peace of mind throughout the moving process! I will say the mover driver was a bit predatory because they had to wait for me to get my cashiers check and it was a Sunday where all banks are closed. He said he would have to charge me for the wait time but then when it was time to pay made it seem like he made that up as a way to get more money out of me and said he could just apply the wait time fee to the tip instead. I did not appreciate that as I was already planning to tip. I will say when the company I used previously I did appreciate that they wrapped everything they moved. This company did not do that I'm not sure if it is something they offer and it's just extra. I had one issue with the frankly crappy reassembly of my captain's bed. When the movers left, the bed was bowed, drawers would not close completely and the slats were falling out or not fitting in at all. I reported the problem to Serena and it was corrected promptly. A crew came and reassembled the bed to eliminate the problems. Finally, Serena is the best. She is responsive, knowledgeable, friendly and very easy to work with. However, I've been receiving persistent emails claiming that I still owe money. Despite my efforts to resolve this, including multiple conversations with representatives who assured me they would fix the issue, no one has followed up or tried to resolve the issue. I invested a significant amount in my move well over $3k and now I'm being told I still have an outstanding balance. To add to my frustration, they are threatening to send my account to collections. It's shocking to think that after paying in full, I'm facing this situation. I have been speaking with Kim and Jonathan in the Columbia MD and Paul in the Iowa office. I have requested to speak with someone higher and was told by Paul he was it. I explained to both that initially I received a similar notice a year after my service and I had immediately contacted the Columbia, MD office and was told that there was a computer glitch and that several customers received old bills in error and to ignore it. Now 18 months later I'm receiving the same notice and being threatened that my account is going to be sent to collections. Conveniently everyone who was responsible for my account is no longer with the company. Both Jonathan and Paul state it was an administrative error and that the person who booked me should have charged $406 deposit instead I was charged $100 so I still owe $306. My question is if I had an outstanding deposit that was supposedly added to my initial quote why wasn't it added to the final bill in 2024 when the movers completed my move. The purpose of a deposit is to secure my appointment so how can I pay partial if it's a requirement. The lady at the time of the booking told me $100 was due and that's what I paid. Why would the system allow me to not pay the full deposit if it's required. Make it make sense. At the completion of the job why wasn't that supposed deposit balance not automatically included if it was truly already on the bill. Im questioning the legitimacy of this. I am extremely frustrated with Two Men and a Truck due to their lack of accountability for their employees and the errors that have occurred. Their failure to manage effectively and communicate properly has led to a disappointing experience. I will not be using their services again, nor will I refer them to anyone. The absence of reliable customer service has made this situation even worse, and I can't trust a company that doesn't take responsibility for its mistakes.

That was a big mistake. This time I went right to Doyle. You get what you pay for, my friends. Ryan, the owner, was very responsive and we made an appointment to do a video walk-through of our condo. We did the walk-through, he asked a lot of questions and then he promptly sent an estimate. We have a lot of things so it took five guys and two trucks. The crew leader contacted me the day before to confirm the details and they showed up promptly the day of. They were incredibly friendly, fun, and energetic the entire time. And very polite. They treated all of our things very well and didn't have a problem moving any of the weird odds and ends we couldn't find a way to pack. When we arrived they put everything in the new house where we wanted it and even though we could tell they were suffering from the extreme heat and the weight and amount of our things, they never lagged or complained. They put the beds back together quickly and correctly as well as the dining room table. I'd be in hospital if I had to move all my stuff. At the end, the crew leader went over the paperwork, explained all the final charges line-by-line, and took payment. Very professional. We could not be happier. They were a great crew of guys. This aggressive legal tactic attempts to strip consumers of their right to due process in court, and it has been explicitly illegal in Maryland consumer contracts since 2020. Furthermore, their opening paragraph states they "in no event function... as an interstate or intrastate common carrier." This is a massive red flag, as it appears to be a deliberate loophole to dodge the state's mandatory cargo insurance and liability protections that legitimate movers are required to carry. Upon requesting that Doyle strike these clauses from their contract, they refused to do so, because they "do over 1,000 moves a year and send the same contract to every customer we service." Unfortunately, that contract contains illegal and predatory language.
