When my appointment came I was professionally greeted & offered a class of water & she informed me my stylist would be right with me. She was helpful and with a smile! Then I met my stylist and she went over every detail in her chair. I then got shampoo'd and wow I almost fell asleep with a professional head rub and it was relaxing on a Friday! I don't know what else to say other than I love all the girls in this Salon! Maddy does my hair all the time and every time she does I'm never disappointed. We've done many different cuts and colors throughout the past year and she hasn't failed me! All the other ladies will give you the honest opinion on what should be done but also work with you to give you what you wanted. I honestly have never been to another salon that welcomes you and makes you feel as comfortable as they do! The owner (Robin) definitely knows what she is doing along with everyone else in there. It seemed like either a new salon, or newly redone. It was fresh and clean inside, and very modern. The bride, myself, and another bridesmaid had our hair done. Everyone's came out great! Vicky did my hair and was a total pro. I am not a hair person, so I didn't exactly know how to describe what I wanted, but with the little details I gave, she nailed it!! I was so happy with how it came out!! The bride and other bridesmaid were also very happy with their hair, and I can assure you that our hair lasted all day and night!! Stacey S solved all of it with fantastic foils and color evening and repaired the hair to boot. I just love it and it looks thicker which is a big thing for us with thinning hair! SO happy AND! I've known of Cynde for years, and while yes she is an exceptionally talented makeup artist, her brows work is what I'm noting here. I really didn't want to write a not so great review for a new business in my neighborhood. I am all for supporting new businesses. But I think reviews should be honest. Here are my thought on this place and the only good thing is that the staff is really nice and personable. 1. My nails look very armature. There are areas where my cuticles are covered with polish and areas where my mails have no polish. Day after had them done, looks like a week old. I am sure if I went in there they would offer to repaint my nails but that's really not my purpose here and I don't plan to go back to this location. 2. Very few polish colors or brands to choose from. 3. My tech was pretty rough in my pedicure and even clipped my skin in one place. 3. For new construction place, the decor is really bad!! Looks unfinished and what is finished... Not good. Also to have a jewelry table of someone selling their stuff in the middle of the floor looks really tacky. But hey if you're not trying to be high-end... Do whatever. 4. Pedicure stations are horrible and there's only two of them. Although I was told that there was a mistake in construction and they are going to be fixed. But I was sitting in the most uncomfortable way for my entire pedicure. My water was also lukewarm even though I had asked her to make it hotter. Staff was super nice and Prices are average. But you can get better in the same area and even for slightly less. read more

Then Stacy came into my life. I swear I look 15 years younger after Stacy cuts and treats my hair. This was my first visit to the Blue Orchid despite I live 10 min. from them but I got through several salons after my hairdresser from Aveda moved to another place. I just decided to try it after reading all reviews on HP salons. I wanted to try Stacey. And I was lucky this time, my God! I just said to her what I wanted and she touched my hair, asked me a couple of questions and that was it. When Stacey finished my hair I was the happiest woman again after almost 3 years of frustration. I will never go to any other hairdresser. I can't wait to see Stacey again. All my friends said it was my best hairdo. Stacey is an amazing professional, she just has a talent to what she does. I also saw Maggie and she is a great esthetician. I don't do my lashes often but I will certainly go to Maggie again when I need it, she is very good. I also want to say about Sherri who is a perfect manicurist. I was NOT impressed with this salon. First off its not a spa, for me a spa is relaxing and high quality-this salon was loud and for higher prices it did not represent quality. My haircut was $65 and the lady cut off more hair than she should have and her response was "I'm sorry I didn't know that" when I clearly stated I was trying to grow my hair out, one length in the beginning. I really hated this salon. My hairdresser came here from another salon. I love her. But this salon was dark, dingy and depressing. The employees were never friendly. Nobody ever smiled or said, "hi." It was very overpriced. Even the owner always looked miserable. When I looked at other customers cuts/color, I was not impressed at all. And having to climb a flight of stairs was a real pain after my knee surgery. The only person here who seemed to do a good job was that Stacy girl. There are soooooooo many other hair salons on the North Shore. Do yourself a favor and go someplace else. Look at the interior as you go by. Not bright or happy at all. Let me say first that this salon has changed A LOT over the last few years. But definitely not one I'll be going back to or referring people to any more (I previously worked in a salon for 5 years so if anyone locally asked where to go, I sent there and one other place). It's too bad cuz they have a couple of really great people who work there but their management needs a huge change. I had a gift certificate there for a spa package that I only used one thing on and they said they would keep it on file. I asked if I had to worry about it expiring and they said at that time, packages didn't expire except they would only be valid for the price paid at that time. Went in there in April to book an appt, canceled it next day cuz I had to work, but they checked my gift certificate for validation because it was flagged under question at such a large amount. Apparently, a girl who had been fired there had been transferring pieces of older gift certificates to her name to use them. I told them I hadn't been in to use it except for one thing a while back and they apologized to me for the inconvenience and would have a manager update it in the system. Called to make an appointment today and said without a receipt, I wouldn't be able to use it cuz at this point it's expired and there's no payment connected. Asked to speak to a manager, explained and everything. She didn't care and both her employee and herself had a major attitude with me like this was somehow my fault. This is hardly how you run a business and I am SO sorry I work most days out of the week and am unable to come to a salon all the time except for when needed but that doesn't negate the money that was in my name and supposedly safe on file with them. The least they could have done was offer me one service and say due to all the issues they've had they wouldn't be able to honor the whole thing. But to be treated like that because of errors that happened right under their nose from previous disgruntled employees is not something I should be paying for and they won't see a dollar from me or anyone else I know. What truly was a great salon when it opened has turned their nose up and become like most other salons in Highland Park. Again a shame, because they have a couple of girls who work there with some amazing talent. read more

I went to get a haircut, showed the hairdresser a picture of what I wanted it to look like. My hair looks nothing like the picture. It way too short and the stylist thinned it way to much. She also cut the hairs on the top of my head way too short and nothing, not even hair wax will keep it down. Horrible experience. read more

Don't let the website fool you! I booked a facial for $85. I arrived 5 minutes early and was left waiting because the receptionist went to lunch. The woman who took her place was busy chatting the whole time with another employee while I sat there in front of them.
