I was very impressed by their customer service. One of the staff saw I was struggling and came over to help. He also brought over some additional axes that he thought would be a better fit for me. I was so impressed by his willingness to help. Price is good, better than most. I like that staff isn't in the cage with you like at some other places. I find that a distraction when they are. Boards were a bit beat up when we got there at 8:20 but I was the problem, not the boards lol. The facility was clean. Great axe throwing experience with teenage son and friends. Ace expert made my son and friend very comfortable. He showed them a few ways to throw and helped them get bullseye. It was not busy when we went. We actually were only ones there which was nice for beginners. Park around back of building and head right in for a great evening. Can't wait to go again read more

Been twice now...and what an absolutely fun time! The cool part? Everyone's in a great mood. Better? The fact that you don't need any experience at all! Best? You can bring snacks and a cooler...or pick up some drinks there. The staff is super cool - and helpful - and if you listen to them, you'll score! Once you get the hang of things, you can start playing games, but honestly? Meh. Just THROW! While you might bristle at slots "only" lasting an hour, you'll be surprised at what a good length of time that is. I had an amazing time. The staff was great and gave perfect instructions for this newbie. The facility was so clean and you can bring or have food delivered. Definitely wait until you done throwing before eating, it kills your time. They definitely keep track of your time. When your time is up, it's up. We went with a group of 8 about a month ago and had a great time! The process of making a reservation was simple and you are sent a reminder text just in case. It's located in a large industrial looking building. You definitely want to make your reservation we'll in advance because I imagine they get busy pretty fast. I also recommend coming about 10-15 minutes before your start time to make sure everyone your with has a chance to sign the waivers and get settled. There is a little waiting area before you head over where the actual axe throwing magic happens. The people who work here a friendly and make sure you are comfortable before just setting you off on your own. I think the person explained everything to us was Dave? Nice guy who took the time to really explain everything and give pointers. Two different axes you can throw depending on what weight you can handle/ if you want more of a challenge or not. Definitely bring some drinks and snacks to keep you going between throws. 1 hour was plenty of time for our group of 8 (all 1st time throwers). I'd definitely go back! read more

Instruction was rushed, he zipped through a canned set of rules very quickly. Didn't even tell us how to keep score, just told us we had to read a packet on the wall. It was my first time axe throwing. Everyone I was with had been to various other places and told me ahead of time not to worry, our instructor would be there the whole time, give pointers, keep score, etc. Nope! Not at Blue Ox. There were 6 lanes but I only saw 2 employees, and one stayed at the front desk. A couple people in our group of 14 managed to get some sporadic assistance, but not me. Maybe I would have hit the target more than once if the instructor had actually instructed me... (maybe not though lol) They make it seem like you have your choice of axes, but they just defaulted to one bigger one and one smaller one. Since he bolted immediately, he didn't realize that wasn't working for us. It was probably half way the through our time before we were able to swap one out. The only time he showed up promptly was when our time was up, he rushed us right out of the area. I had fun with the group I was with, but this venue is fairly disorganized, short staffed, and/or hands off. Don't recommend if it's your first time axe throwing. read more

This place is great! Booked an hour for a date, and the staff was very helpful with tips for throwing and offered to take out picture at the end. The location has different games on the wall for different skill levels. They also have other games like foosball and other games to play. Also we brought a cooler of drinks so we didn't have to buy any which saved money. Both me and my date loved this place! read more

It's in a larger industrial style building with a few other businesses--easy to find. I recommend making a reservation for your hour because it can get busy. My group of 3 signed waivers and paid before a mini instruction. It's clean, safe if you're not an idiot, and surprisingly fun. There are different axe throwing games you can play (think darts) so you're not just randomly throwing an axe at the target. Although, that's fun too. You get your own fenced in lane. An hour is plenty! Will definitely head there again to blow off some steam, spend an hour inside, and support local fun businesses. read more

Came here for my sons 15th birthday party with 4 of his best friends. Carissa and Joe were amazing to make his party a success. Joe spent time with each of them teaching them to improve their throws and Carissa was amazing the whole time helping us with the cake and the drinks. We visited Blue Ox as a office group bonding activity. Good thing we love each other! No, honestly, the place is so safe and well managed. Staff begins with training and safety rules and returns often to help guide. Only one in our group had actually thrown an axe before but soon we were all happily into it! There is definitely a skill level to achieve - but it doesn't have to do with strength. The most petite in our group shot the best.... Me? Not so good but I can't wait to go back! You are allowed to bring snacks and coolers and if you need to wait for a "cage" to open up they have some fun games waiting at some pretty rustic tables for you. Fun times! read more

Go somewhere else! This place is NOT family friendly, I understand kids can not play at this location but other axe throwing places let kids throw. This place could even have a spot off to the side for children. I shouldn't be treated like scum because I have a family. I am military and not having family in the area makes it hard to do activities without my child. I will never go back again. I mean even the boy scouts let kids shot guns and throw axes. But not here, they let you drink and throw axes because that is so much safer then letting a kid throw an axe. Your intelligence is right on the spot!! read more

Lonnie hand delivered the gift card to his front door (ABOVE AND BEYOND) and personalized the presentation! He even provided a little mystery when he delivered the package - enjoying the whole process and making it fun for the recipient. Big fan of this place, probably go at least once a month and have been convincing more and more friends to go. It really is fun, and feels like a great stress release to me. I love the changes they have made with the addition of the bar stools and the bars. The place is bring your own alcohol, but I find that I start to throw a lot worse when I drink, so I don't normally drink too much when I go anyways. Plus afterwards, you can head on over to the New England Cider Company, which is basically down the street for some amazing cider anyways! I don't like too much how they give you two different sized axes, one large one and one smaller one. Before it used to be just two small axes, and I've gotten pretty decent at learning how to throw the small axe. Having to switch on and off between a small axe and a large axe has been a bit of a challenge, especially when I take friends for the first time and all they want to do is use the small axe. I'm stuck with the large axe, and a sore arm afterwards. Honestly, it's a really fun activity if you've never tried it before. Just like a larger game of darts. Alright so I wanted to take my bf out on a date so we came here after a long day of running errands I said "Honey let's get a couples massage and go axe throwing, I made us reservations so let's get going" and he was like "Hell f#%+*ing yes!!! " We got to this place 10 minutes early so we decided like the competitive couple we are to make a bet. My bet if he lost was for him to dance in front of the big living room window facing traffic for 30 seconds wearing a bra and booty shorts. For me I had to let him throw ice water on me when he felt like it...Lets just say thank God I wasn't wearing a white shirt ...he swears he won but he also cheated I swear. Anywho the environment is SO friendly and the people there don't bore you they go over what's supposed to be said then let you roll. They were busy when we went and forgot to give us axes which was a little annoying cause "we were early" but it's ok we aren't fussy about that stuff cause ish happens. I had a blast though and do plan on returning and for two people + one hour was $43 that's a great price guys plus I got an email with $5 off my next visit! Woo! Ok....if you've never thrown axes before or seen any other ax throwing venues...this place will feel like an ax cut above. However, we have been to other venues prior to our visit here and the experience at the Blue Ox made us feel like we were throwing axes in our buddies garage with a bucket full of cheap beer. The minimal cage construction and staff instruction will leave you feeling as though you've missed the target. I have to say that I am more than slightly disappointed because of my more polished and professional experiences at other CT venues. I hope that the Blue Ox is still under development because it has the potential to be a fun place to go with friends.. read more
