We returned here on a Friday night to enjoy a late dinner and listen to local singers on the weekly Karaoke night. As usual, we began with an appetizer of Tempura Shrimp that was light and crispy. I followed this with a hot bowl of sweet Tomato Soup. For her main Diane had a medium-rare Cheeseburger & French Fries. She liked her burger except included bacon was missing. The cost was subtracted from our bill. I liked my Turkey Blue Ox Melt on lightly toasted Sourdough, which was warm with included pickle chips and a slice of well-melted White American Cheese, along with nicely seasoned and crispy Fries. Came for a sushi-making class and ended up hanging out after, and it was such a fun experience! The class was well put together and hands-on, engaging, and even better than I expected. The instructor made everything easy to follow and kept the energy light and fun. Decided to stick around after the class as the place has a super comfortable vibe where you can just relax. Our server was very friendly! She made some great recommendations and we didn't feel rushed at all, even though we simply hung out for like 2 hours after we ate. Great burgers. I got the mushroom swiss and the hubs got the blue cheese & bacon. His was very zippy with flavor and mine was delicious and mellow. Both good choices. The blue cheese dressing was kinda sweet, which we didn't particularly love but the chunks of cheese in it were tasty and good sized. I got cottage cheese, which was awesome to be able to have as a side without an upcharge. He got fries, delightfully salted and seasoned. 1 soda water. Total bill $35. I took half my burger home I was actually full! Cute decor. Love the skeball and pinball machines. Lots of booths, which we like. A little smokey inside but not too bad. We came in on a random Sunday afternoon. Wanted a burger, and this was perfect. There's a Sunday karaoke but from 3 or so on. Live singing and watching people dance was so much fun! There were really some good singers! My husband and I enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. Food is always good, shots in ice cold glasses and good selection of tap beer. We to come to this place for lunch every once in a while: It is a little smoky because obviously it's a bar. But the food is always delicious and the servers are always friendly and attentive. We ordered the Caesar and house salads along with chicken fingers. The salads were good and fresh but the chicken fingers are beer battered so they're crunchy on the outside and moist in the middle. A friend and I went to Blue Ox for a painting class, Monet Your Way. However we decided to have dinner before the class started. Our waitress was very welcoming and took care of us right away. My friend had the burger and I the fish tacos. I loved the fish tacos and she enjoyed her burger, just couldn't finish it. How is this place considered a "dive bar"? If this is divey then I am in love. It is not your typical stale smoke place. Not at all. It is CLEAN. The bathrooms are sparkling. It is spacious in the whole bar. Good food at a cheap cost. We got here rather late like 1:30am. A friendly, energetic and super personable bartender named Eric was our host. He is very creative making cocktails and was thrilled we wanted to try something besides the usual beer or shot. My friend got a Purple Rein cocktail which was a lavender shade of purple it was tasty (I tried a little) but a smidge on the sweet side for me. Eric was pleased I wanted to try a drink not on the menu. He even listened to my story of my old neighbor Mr. Roby (RIP) who used to make a good manhattan. Eric came up with a nice old fashioned cocktail with a hint of sweetness. It was amazing. He tried to make a cable car on demand but unfortunately he didn't have all the ingredients. So eh came up with a blue curaçao version which was just ok. The food is quite good and the kitchen was open late. We had Fried Cheese Curds and fish tacos oh my goodness. Everything was clean bathrooms even smelled AND looked clean (let's face it we all been to ones that look clean but the smell...???!!!) I've been remiss in not reviewing Blue Ox. A group of us meet here twice monthly for over two years. Ron is easy to work with and seems to appreciate our business. Bartender Chrissie greets me by name. Our regular server, Lynn, is awesome. She sets up our table in advance, also greets the regulars by name, and knows what we drink. Lynn is prompt about returning to our table as more people arrive or take an order from someone who was undecided. Everything on the menu is good and reasonably priced. Our original intent was to check out several local bars for happy hour. After trying Blue Ox once we decided there was no reason to keep looking. read more

Another day, another bar review right? This review is my 300th! Maybe I'm slacking. The Blue Ox was my watering hole of choice this week, and is one of those places you either know about or stumble upon accidentally. The exterior was vintage looking and vintage looking places usually have a certain type of charm. The interior looks like it got a facelift at some point, yet still retains some of it's vintage charm. The back of the bar had a recreational/game room area. They made it clear by signage that this is a MN Vikings joint. I was just there for dinner and a VGK hockey game. Behind the bar was their own Goal horn the bartender plays when VGK scores to create a little excitement (Note: Ironically their goal horn actually sounds like the Calgary Flames horn) The drink service was a little slow at first, but improved throughout the evening. I ordered a hangover burger and fries. The food was okay, nothing overly good or bad to report about it. The cheese curds were noticeably good though. The slot machines were like Fort Knox (Rhymes with Ox) I couldn't get a darn dime out of them no matter how much I spent. One cool perk is that if you go to the ATM, the ATM will randomly spit out a $20 free play voucher for a lucky user- that was the only thing I won though. Best of Las Vegas 2024 for wings so we had to try them and check out the place. Service was great, they checked in with us quite a bit. The bar was clean and had a great vibe. Chicken wings for sure deserve the gold medal. We are chicken wing people and 95% of the places that serve them, throw them in a fryer naked and toss them in their various sauces which only leaves sauces to set them apart from the next guy. These were breaded with their own mix and this is what sets them apart from everyone else, no fancy sauce concoction needed. MOOD: Friday night dinner Went with a group of four for a quick dinner before a show. We got there instantly sat ourselves. It was a busy night and only one server and I believe only one bartender. I wish I remembered our servers name as I would just like to say she was so sweet and although she was tending to each table she tried her best to be attentive and get what we needed. I didn't realize that their menu options change so I was a little disappointed in that since we had our minds set on our dinner before arriving. Starting this review off by saying I want all small businesses to succeed. It would take for me to have a really bad experience somewhere to write a negative review about a place. That being said I was in Vegas earlier this week and had a really terrible time when I visited the Blue Ox for my first time. I'm a lifelong Viking fan from California and have heard in the past how the Blue Ox was the Viking Bar in Vegas. I had even looked it up before online and wanted to watch a Viking game there sometime when I was in Vegas. The place looked really fun and cool. So earlier this week myself and a friend of mine were looking to get dinner and I thought we should take a taxi to the Blue Ox to check it out and eat. Pictures of the food looked delicious and it said open 24 hours 7 days a week. Even had my JJ Viking jersey on the night we went. We walk in and it's around 11:30 or so. No one is there except one guy playing pool by himself. Dead night, no problem, that happens to every bar. No greeting from the bartender at all when we walk in and sit down. The bartender couldn't have been more unfriendly. He mumbled his name was "John" about 10 minutes in when I asked him. The rest of our time there was cold and awkward. This was the rudest non inviting bartender I've ever encountered in my restaurant/bar time experience. He treated my buddy like he was an idiot when he asked him what beer cheese was from the menu. The bartender acted like we were a huge bother on his busy night and that he didn't want us to order dinner or spend more $ there. The bright spot was the cook came out from back for a minute and she was friendly and warm to us. She was cool. She should have been out front dealing with the customers. My friend and I also looked at each other and were pretty sure John didn't put any alcohol in our basic easy 1 round of drinks. Because of John's terrible attitude and horrendous customer service skills we decided to not get dinner and leave. Paid John's bill and left. An annoying but far lesser complaint is I put in $6 on a pinball machine and it let me play 1 round.
