She proceeded to show us packages that included things my dad specified he didn't want and when we asked if we could leave them out she said it would cost us more to piece the items out with just what he wanted but she never showed us the itemized prices. She tried to get us to sign a blank agreement when we weren't able to decide on everything right away and we declined to sign then when we went home we called the VA to see if they had any additional services and they gave us so many services they offer. They even offered to bury him free of charge in a national cemetery and provide a headstone and military pallbearers and taps. We also found on Sac Memorials website there were services the offered specifically for veterans. When we called back to speak to them about it, it was difficult to get ahold of Sabrina so we spoke to someone else who said Sabrina hadn't even filed for the death certificate nor put on file that he was a veteran. We also found a price list online on their website and it showed the cost for only the things he actually wanted if we decided to bury him there were only about half the cost of what she was trying to get us to sign for a full package. Very disappointing and we will be burying him elsewhere where he will be honored and not be on the grounds of these scammers. Just disgusting how they try to exploit a family for money during their most vulnerable moments for their own gain.

They have a delay with the cremation and getting it into the urn. Everything was last minute they couldn't guarantee the urn would be ready in time for the celebration of life. The place is peaceful and well decorated. One of the workers was at the door to greet us and pass out programs. They have a nice entry hall for the guest book to be placed and for the guests to sign in. The microphone and overhead projector worked like a charm. Everyone was able to hear the speakers and there was no static or feedback. The staff was polite and not intrusive. They even remembered me from last time I was there. The bathroom was easy to find and clean. They have a private lot and parking was a cinch. We even got parking in the shade.

A day or two before the service they they opened an online obituary portal at their home page that allowed folks to leave well-wishes online. The comments are vetted before being published (authorization completed by the family of the deceased). The day of service was extremely hard, but the funeral home was absolutely professional and there was not oddities to report. The location of the funeral home was reasonable to get to--parking limited, but manageable. It was a hot day, but they had the air conditioning set to a chill level (making sense for open caskets). I don't mean to sound clinical about this review, especially when so much emotion can go into why you are there, but in the end. The funeral home was clean, provided for everybody that came to pay their respects. Prior to the service they cycled photos and/ or video reflecting memories of my friend and his family that survived him. I can't address pricing, but I heard the average cost of a funeral can easily run around 15K, and the lavatory I don't know because I didn't use it. The initial room where you first walk in is furnished nicely and to be honest it was a good area to take little ones that aren't able to sit long during the service. The area allows you to still hear what's going, limits the noise the main hall hears, and keeps you out of immediate line of sight. Anyway, if you have to use services like this, North Sacramento Funeral Home is professional and does it correct.

This is the first time I've ever had to plan and organize a funeral and just wanted to honor my father's memory in the best I could with what I could afford. I Went into the shop back in May or June 2022 to order my father's gravestone and was told that it would be placed by August. I've e-mailed and called several times for updates and it always takes forever to get a response. No one ever answers the phone and the owner takes days or weeks to return calls and messages (if at all). I was home during Thanksgiving break and went to the shop to talk to the owner and the shop was closed even though the hours listed on window said that they were open. The next day, I received an e-mail from the owner informing me that he's "working on it". I replied to his e-mail letting him know that I will seek a full refund and take my business elsewhere if the gravestone is not place by the end of the year. I just want a nice memorial for my dad. It shouldn't be drawn out like this. I can't tell you how upsetting it is to see nothing at my dads gravesite other gravestones already installed for people who passed after my father. A longtime business of over 100 years across from the old city (Masonic) cemetery, this business offers multiple options at many different price points and customization options for a gravestone/memorial monument. I visited two times on my own and was ably helped by Christy D. Christy was so kind and patient and gave me estimates for a custom headstone as well as a couple of other stock/standard headstones. It was a struggle at the time trying to get everyone's input in the family and I got overwhelmed trying to make the ultimate decision. The third time my Dad came with me to an appointment and we were finally ready to commit and make a decision. We were able to choose a custom bronze monument and I chose a blue granite base that we found out weighed 2 tons (yes, it was the most expensive option and I was not surprised, I make a beeline for the best). Christy was familiar with the guidelines at the cemetery where mom is buried. She spent a lot of time building us a template and then had a photo proof for approval via email shortly after. She even noted a discrepancy that I had missed and made sure everything was exactly as we wanted. Christy's kindness, patience, sensitivity, and detail-oriented business acumen was so exceptional. We will never forget her wonderful approach to this challenging work. We were consistently updated via email regarding the order and when the monument was installed. Payment for our custom stone was required in full once final approval was made. Note, it took 5 months from ordering to completion but it was completed a month earlier than the initial six month estimate. We chose a photo for the monument as well as an inset vase for flowers. In the end, I'm glad I visited another monument company and decided without hesitation to return to Ruhkala. My dad and I could not be more pleased with the outcome, the professionalism, and the beauty of the final product that will stand as a tribute and memorial to my mom's life. The Broadway location, although a small corner lot adjacent to Midtown Sacramento (on the same side of street/ across from Sellands) has extensive examples of headstones both inside and outside to look at in person, in addition to thick photo albums displaying a catalogue of installed monuments. Prices are as low as $900 for a simple recessed monument to I would imagine no limit based on what is desired. There is also a larger showroom in Rocklin. From what I understand Ruhkala has a granite quarry in Rocklin as well and they provide many of the stones to other local monument companies.
