We had a great experience working with Phil and his team on our project, love the way it turned out and have even gotten some very positive remarks from our neighbors. We met with Phil and let him know we had two projects one being to replace the asphalt driveway with pavers and to have pavers and artificial turf installed in the back yard. We walked the area explaining what we were thinking, and Phil have some very good design feedback to make the project look better and more functional. We have some drainage issues in the backyard, and Phil recommended installing a draining system with our paver walkway and showed us some examples of how he did this with other customers. Once started the project took two weeks and Phil sent out two crews, one to work on the driveway and the other to do the backyard. When the crews arrived, they had a basic idea of the project, and I was able to work with them to explain exactly what we were wanting done. Both crews were very communicative with us, and offered several suggestions that actually improved the design. We worked mostly with Oscar, Johnny and Juan and they all did an excellent job. They arrived at about 7:00am and usually left around 3:30 to 4:00pm. Since we were adding pavers to a previous patio area, the team did an exceptional job at weaving in the new pavers to blend in with the existing pavers. We chose to go with curving boarders and we are especially pleased with how the walkway to the pool turned out, the border around the back of the turf, as well as the pavers in front of our AZ room. We went with installing landscaping lights on the borders for the back and the driveway and they complement the lighting we already have and add more ambiance to the yard. Admittedly, the cost was a bit higher than another quote we received from a previously used contractor, but seeing how much work was done over the 2 weeks, the professionalism of the workers, the added features of lights and sealing the pavers, as well as the grading of the yard to help with drainage, it was well worth it. We now sit on our patio and enjoy the overall look of our yard and are very happy we worked with Phil, Blue Ribbon and his teams! read more

WE called this company because we saw the way that our neighbor's driveway looked. Phil came to us and gave us an estimate. We can't say that this was the lowest price because we did not check before contacting Blue Ribbon. Our backyard was completed yesterday and we are extremely happy with the job. The workmen were very cautious with our plants. They even made a suggestion that we did not think of doing (remove old brick around our plant and put in pavers). The workers worked very hard during the hot weather. We discussed the idea of steps at our back door because the bricks we had previously were taller than the pavers. I should've known from the initial phone call to schedule the appointment that this was not going to go well. Like most families, we have busy lives with different schedules. My wife was unable to be there for the scheduled estimate and they made a big fuss about her absence. So much so, that it made me feel uncomfortable. Once Phil arrived, he took 30 seconds to look at the job and provided a ridiculously overpriced quote. When asked why his price exceeded other quotes, he rudely said, "Go with them and don't waste my time." He then stormed off to his truck and sped off. I do not recommend this company, we had pavers installed from the front door all the way around to the back of the house. They did not install a weed guard under the pavers, the concrete around the perimeter looks like a five year old did with his hands, after we had them back to fix it. We did spend a lot, but its not worth our time to sue them. We are just going to fix it our selves. The are spot where the pavers are sinking and uneven. Typical Tucson experience... We made an appt with this company several WEEKS ago to come out and give us a quote on repairing some driveway pavers. Of course the appt was made for a Friday (you know where this is heading...). My husband received a call this morning, the day of the appt, and was told that the guy coming out to do the quote had a "cough" and that he had to cancel the appt (Cough during the Covid-era is always a convenient excuse to get out of a scheduled appt, and by the way... most driveways are outside, so you know, you can social distance pretty easily). Their office wanted to reschedule. We said, "no thanks!" Been through this so many times here with the same-day "sick" excuse, we have lost count. Not wasting our time again with this company. If you don't need our business, are way too busy, the job is too small, you don't give a crap, etc., please just let us know to begin with. Our time is valuable, too! Lather, Rinse, Repeat! That should be the Tucson motto for contractors cancelling same day, or not showing up when they are scheduled. This is the new epidemic in Tucson. read more

I understand it took a long time to finish (especially with rain delays and a supply chain error), but it was well worth the wait. Avoid this company at all cost. This is a full truthful review of our experience with Blue Ribbon Pavers. We decided to go with Blue Ribbon, because, at the time of estimate, (the owner) Phil said he was the only one in town with the Belgrad Pavers that matched our driveway. At time of estimate Phil measures nothing correctly, asks what you want, and scribbles writing on his estimate sheets. He writes down a high estimate, and then he wants you to sign that second and give him a large deposit. We signed late March 2022, after having him out early March 2022, he told us the job would start in six weeks, it didn't. It started second week of July 2022, and the only reason it started then was because I demanded a refund of our deposit. The lady at the office is nice, but has no clue what jobs are in line, what is about to be completed, and has no time lines. She admitted to me the owner provides her no information. So they showed up with six pallets of Belgrad pavers with a color close to our driveway pavers and the lady of the house just wanted the job done at that point and so did I. The owner's workers admitted to us, Belgrad changed the color and said they don't make the color of our driveway anymore. So the owner was not truthful at time of estimate. Phil brought one sample of travertine because we were considering it, but he only brought one sample. We were willing to spend $4,000.00 more to do travertine, around our pool, but not with only one sample provided. We were not offered to go look at what he had on hand in his supply yard. He just showed us pictures of completed jobs on his tablet. We had our design in our minds and had to tell the guys everything and watch them. The workers were nice, and asked us questions, but they threw trash in our yard during the project, slept on the dirt under our pergola multiple hours every day and on the side of our house too, let trash blow in our pool, showed up at all different times every day, and debated us on the job aspects by our driveway and had to call the owner, to which we said we told him at estimate what we wanted and showed him. The project out in the front of our house the workers did not even know about, and they had to bring two more pallets of pavers. We paid $23,802.00 for pavers on each side of our pool, three block retaining walls with benches, seven lights, paver work wrapping around our trashcan hider to our driveway and some rock for areas in our backyard. They did the work out front to high with no round edges, the owner wanted final payment, we told him our issues with the job, and his response was, "it's done". I asked him via text to come fix somethings, I got no response. This company does not stand by its work, some pavers have sunk, the pool drains they put in are uneven, did not match our older one's color, and they did not take the orange tape off the drains and left it to us and it came off bad. The work is average at best. They use no paver treatment underneath pavers for drainage except a little sand, no paver drains, and no polymeric sand when the job is done. Also, after giving Phil the final check he asked, if we were going to leave him a positive review? He did not walk the whole job and inspect everything his workers did. See photos, of our job, it looks ok, but we are going to hire someone to take the white pool drains out, put polymeric sand in, and seal our pavers. We were going to have all our pavers sealed by Blue Ribbon for $3,000.00 on top of what we paid, but we did not want them on our property to do more subpar work. Pavers must be cleaned (pressure washed), resanded, and then sealed. Phil tried to send a guy out with paver sealer and sprayer and call it a day and get another check. Avoid this company at all cost they do average work, are ran poorly, don't stand by their work (no warranty), among many other issues. I gave Blue Ribbon two stars one for the workers being nice and the office lady being nice, and the other star for the workers trying to do a decent job because they tried. This company is completely unmanaged. The owner is consistently MIA and cannot ever seem to have enough material for his employees to finish the job. Jobs take twice as long to finish because the workers run out of stuff to do so then the employees in turn just hang out and get absolutely NOTHING DONE. A two week job turns into over a month. Blue Ribbon - Not a business I would recommend to my worst enemy. After looking at photos of other paving projects in out neighborhood we decided to move forward with Blue Ribbon. Unfortunately, for us the pictures did not show the fine details. When our project was complete we had Phil come back out to review drainage issues, pavers stained in the the wrong sheen and the poor worksmanship on a built in island. Phil did come back and took a look. He asked for more of what was owed and said his team would be back to make corrections, then a final payment would be made. We agreed, this was back in March. It's now July and we haven't seen hide nor hair of Phil. The monsoons are coming, and we are struggling to find someone willing to fix the shoddy workmanship of Blue Ribbon. My final complaint about Blue Ribbon is that their workers arrive with no idea of what needs to be done. Materials are dropped off and management disappears without inspecting the on going work. I feel for their workers, they work hard yet stuggle because they have to guess at what needs to be done. read more

His team of four men showed up daily first thing in the morning and worked till 3pm. They are hard workers and their craftsmanship showed in the finished product. When Blue Ribbon installed my turf they offered a lifetime warranty.Phil (the owner) recommended and he reassured me that the turf he was recommending is what he would use in his yard and he would warrant against the turf showing any wear or laying flat. In less then a year the turf started to show wear and fraying and was laying flat,it also looked like it had melted in places. The turf area does not get a lot of traffic since I live alone with my two Scottie dogs and only here part time. I contacted the owner and salesperson, Phil,in April 2021 via text and left a message on his phone and many more after that date,I did finally get a call back from Phil in November 2021and he came out to my home to look a the turf and he indicated that the turf was defective and he would schedule a replacement. As of today January 17th 2022 I have never heard back from Phil after calling and texting him numerous times reiterating I was dissatisfied with him and Blue Ribbon. Since I have not heard back from Phil I will be taking additional action. Phil promotes a life time warranty and service when he is at your home selling you his product and urges you to sign and make appointment for install then wanting a down payment because his price is only good the day of his visit. That being said please beware before signing anything with Phil. Since I'm new to the area moving from Washington state I wish I would have talked with my neighbors here in the Highlands before signing with Phil due to their frustrations with Blue Ribbon and Phil. I received a quote from Phil at Blue Ribbon on May 20, 2020 for minor repair and cleaning and sealing of about 190 square feet of clay brick sidewalk at the front of my house. The job was completed of July 31, 2020. That adds up to 73 calendar days from start to finish. There is too much detail to go into to mention all of the problems I had with this company. The work quoted was not totally what was done and I am not a "happy camper". I paid a premium price to get what I thought would be a good job but I definately did not get what I paid for. Cleaning consisted of pressure washing, which did not get the bricks anyway near clean.( Phil mentioned Muratic Acid at the time of the quote) One coat of lacquer sealer was applied and the workers called it "done", I did get them to come back and apply more sealer but the final coat was left up to me. They may do good work for new constructing but cleaning and sealing is not part of their wheelhouse. read more

We were looking for opinions and he didn't have anything to offer. In my opinion, I would think that landscapers are there to help design what you are looking for. Blue Ribbon just completed a major transformation of my old blacktop driveway in the Catalina Foothills to beautiful pavers. Done more quickly than promised; at the price quoted; and the on-site workers were a pleasure to work with. I've read other reviews about problems getting Phil to submit his initial quote. I had some of the same experience early - which I attributed mainly to my trying to coordinate a Tucson project from Chicago. After receiving quotes from two other reputable landscaping companies, we decided to go with Blue Ribbon for two reasons: they had the BEST quality "turf" (similar pricing) and they were the only bid that suggested recycling our beautiful red brick (instead of buying expensive artistic pavers or flagstone) and re-design the pattern to a gorgeous Herringbone 45 degree angle AND seal the red brick giving it a fabulous glossy look. I have to tell you, I was nervous after I signed the contract, wrote a check and read a few negative reviews but our experience was FANTASTIC! Phil quoted us 4-6 weeks since they are in busy season and they came on week 6 (we were in no rush, it is 105 degrees outside!). The job took them a mere 3 days and it came out waaaaay BETTER than I expected/ envisioned! Truly- blown away with the quality of work and craftsmanship from his team! Not to mention, they were all extremely professional and wonderful to work with. Very courteous and polite! Like any major project, I would highly recommend being home for the initial start and reviewing the contract and a diagram of your expectations with the crew supervisor... our brick was almost re-laid out in the same pattern! They were totally cool about it and made sure it was done exactly as planned. We found Blue Ribbon along with other hardscaping contractors in a mailer; the one that looks like a stack of postcards. We were looking to do a 1,000 sq ft paver project with patio, sidewalk, and driveway skirt. I contacted Phil, along with two others, and the two others also felt the need to talk poorly of Phil and Blue Ribbon. I did some homework and noticed that he had a good history with the BBB, and saw good examples of his work on the web, so we decided to give him a chance. Of the three contractors we contacted, only Phil came prepared with samples and palettes and actually provided good guidance on how best to accomplish our goals with the project. He also came in at the best price per square foot. I'm sure that's why many others opt for Blue Ribbon. If you're a diligent customer, have a little bit of flexibility, and clearly explain what it is you want, you won't be dissapointed. His crew showed up a little late on the first day, but once they got started, they arrived bright and early and stayed for a full eight hours till the job was done, and done right. Phil stayed in touch with me throughout the entire process and his crew was squared away; polite and professional. His written estimate was several words on a piece of paper, not sentences. Quoted price was high and he wanted one third cash down payment. I agreed because 3 other companies did not show up for their appointments. Big mistake. His men (good workers) showed up on a Friday morning with no prior notice to me. There was a shortage of two cactii which I had ordered. The planting was ok but not evenly spaced. They ran out of pea gravel for the yard and sides of the new house. The two areas with pavers surrounding larger cactii did not alternate the color of the bricks as I requested. Before leaving they told me the owner, Phil, would return for his money and to glaze the pavers. Next Monday he phoned me at 6:30 a.m.!!!! He got a partial payment in the afternoon and said he would return for the glazing. I told him to bring more gravel for the thin covered areas. 16 days later with no further communication from him, he cashed the second large check. Job remains unfinished and he walked away from almost another $1000. He asked me not write a negative review. Be forewarned. read more

I am interviewing landscaping contractors for a large but simple backyard remodel. My project involves a lot of sqft but simply masonry work and artificial grass. Phil was the guy's name who came out to my house late. When I started to explain to him what we wanted to get done he seem to get annoyed. I asked him to give me a quote for pavers some masonry work to build some stairs and some artificial grass. I guess he didn't want the job because he took 5 minutes did a slap Hazard job measuring gave me some numbers on the back of his estimate sheet. The price tag was crazy high. Then I asked him if he wanted to tell me anything about his company and he proceeded to say that he's been doing pavers for 18 years and no one can stand up to his quality. I told him "okay great we're done here" and sent him on his way. Not sure if he knows that I'm a realtor in Tucson and do a lot of business here and talk to a lot of people.... I would never ever recommend Blue Ribbon to anyone because of this very unprofessional experience.
