Blue Sky Cafe Is a nice little diner on the roadside with a welcoming feel. I had the pleasure of stopping inside with several of my friends. The first thing I noticed was all of the chrome surfaces, and the kitchen area with a cool neon clock. The dining area has a high ceiling painted blue and white, guess thats where the big sky comes in? I had the Monte Christo. It was awesome and exactly what I expected. The French dip my friend had looked very good though. Even with the busy crowd they make sure to top off your coffee and water. What a scam. The burgers are now the size of half dollars, White Castle fodder. Work conditions of their teenagers are terrible. They have no air conditioning for the youth working in there. During peak summer heat, it can hit over 110+ degrees inside of the building. They do not give the required food handling training to their employees. As a result, they place glass cleaner and other harmful chemicals near food. As for tips, they pocket the tips and do not give them in their pay as required by state and government law. Instead, they use it for a family vacation that none of their employees end up being able to attend. If you do tip, give it directly to the employee who helps you and tell them it is for them and not their employer. Burger meat is lathered with MSG, chicken patties are burned to a crisp, and oil is old and tainted with preservatives including TBHQ. This is an overrated institution that operates on nostalgia-goggle-blinded locals who think "I NEED TO SUPPORT MY LOCAL BUSINESS" and fill their faces with terrible food served by terribly mistreated employees while giving no thought or consideration for the quality of the business's product or that the business needs to earn their patronage. read more

Ordered a couple Double Cheeseburger smallest Burger patties ever maybe a Oz each. I tried the Fatty Patty sounds like the blunts I Smoked as a teenager. We ended our night searching for ice-cream, and we are SO happy we ended here. It was a little drive for us but we will most definitely be back, and probably more often than not. ‍ My boyfriend got the Brownie Delight and was pleasantly surprised. It was much bigger then we had originally planned and was served in a large cup instead of the suspected bowl. The brownies, chocolate and whip cream were abundant throughout the entire dessert. Not just on top like some places. I got the hot fudge sundae and added strawberry, which was probably the best decision I made all day. I got the small and it was the perfect size for me, not too small, but still super satisfying. The Sanders hot fudge they use is well beyond the normal GFS Hot Fudge canned crap served at most other places. I'm so happy with our stop here we will be back ASAP! read more

Blue Sky is our new go to Ice Cream spot now that we've fallen out of love with Frosty Boy. I have to say, we have no regrets. The prices are reasonable, the place is clean and they employ a lot of young area kids which I like. I also really like they have some different slushy syrup flavors that I have never seen before (try the grape!). It's worth mentioning that the people who only come here for the Ice Cream are missing out. The grill at this place is AMAZING! I'm not ashamed to say that we've gotten dinner from here 3 or 4 times since we discovered their delicious burgers and onion rings. Hands down the family favorite is the nacho cheese slider. What is a nacho cheese slider you say - I'm glad you asked. For some reason these visionary folks thought hey, we should put nacho cheese sauce and jalapeno slices on a cheeseburger. The results of this mash-up are spectacular. I want one right now as a matter of fact. Now I know what your thinking. That sounds great Mike but this place is nowhere near me. Ok, ok that's probably true but check this out. This place is literally a stones throw from the south entrance to Metro Airport. Next time you come home on a long flight stuck between the window and the aisle with a kid kicking the back of your chair - rather then going out Merriman to 94, instead go out Eureka to 275 and stop and Blue Sky and get a nacho cheese slider and a grape slushy for the ride back to Royal Oak or St. Clair Shores. I was told that these are similar to Greenes and Bates, but honestly I thought these were better! They aren't as greasy, and I know that 'greasy' doesn't paint a very pleasant picture, but these burgers are so darn good. I always love the taste of onions without actually getting onions. I'm a pretty plain gal when it comes to burgers. Double cheese with ketchup only is how I roll, but I love the slight taste of onions and pickles! These burgers are perfect. I still can't get over the Fruity Pebble Tornado that I got from here! It's pleasing to the eye and the taste buds. Never have I ever got bad service from here. A $1.40 a slider or 6 for $7.95. My son opted for a hotdog (always) and we got a small fry. I went with the half dozen burgers thinking I would take my MIA son some home. The burgers are sliders but big for sliders. I could barely finish one, verry tasty grilled onions ketchup mustard. It kinda reminded me of a cross between Brays and In-n-out but not greasy. While we were waiting in line two roosters were strolling around, chilling hanging out! This freaked my son out but I thought wow something you don't see everyday! I was bummed I couldn't get any pics my phone was barely hanging on almost dead...crap..oh well it was fun. My son finished off with a brownie tornado. I was good and refrained and as far as my bratty teen you snooze you lose no ice cream for you! I would definitely recommend and also a nice play area for the kiddies. I have got to go with the crowd on this one. It is a very unique place. It's like an old fashioned drive in without the drive. it's like a tiny ice cream shop but bigger. it's like an old burger joint but better. A big park is directly behind the ice cream shop. there is a big children's play area and plenty of picnic tables. even some friendly dogs and friendly roosters walk around. ( Yes I said roosters) All kinds of ice cream, floats, shakes, malts, sundaes banana splits, great sliders, great companies, great fries.... It was well over $250 for sliders & icecream for our group of 10 and made a waitress come out after we already ordered. Making us have to add a bigger tip. Prices are up about 40%. Way to Expensive! THIS PLACE IS SEASONAL -- or seems to be. I'm giving this place only three stars, not because of the food, but because Yelp does not make clear that the restaurant is closed for business during the winter months, or at least it was closed in early March when we drove 15 minutes out of our way to visit the shop based on the great reviews given it here on Yelp. Imagine our dismay when we pulled into its lot only to find blue barricades blocking the parking lot entrance, the little building dark inside, and us hungry and ready to eat. Stopped by here when I was waiting to pick up a friend from Detroit Metro Airport. Sitting in the cell phone lot when I was made aware that their flight was going to be late, so in this hot Michigan summer we've been having, I looked up the nearest ice cream place. Blue Sky did NOT disappoint! I asked for a custom shake... threw together a special mixture that they all kinda looked at me weird about, but she even offered to throw in a hot dog into my shake if it was to make me happy. No upcharge for the additions into the shake... and wha-lah. A dang good shake to keep me cool for this summer. Looking around, the place was just hopping with a bunch of families. They even have a playscape for kids, and I was seeing advertisements for classic car shows on every Thursday, bike night every Wednesday. Over 90 degree day , to go order They handed me all of my ice cream before they even started to make my food, very long wait for the food. All the ice cream melted , I asked her to keep the ice cream back there until the food gets ready before it happen , but she still insisted I take it. It all melted so they remade all of the ice cream. When they remade the ice cream I was still waiting on my banana split Which took so long even other customers noticed saying " you've been here a long time". This is after they remade my ice cream. They took everyone's order in line before they made my banana split again. So when I got the banana split all that ice cream was melted again. I just went home. First, the person that was assisting me was not very friendly or welcoming at all. I ordered 2 banana cups with all vanilla ice cream, she wrote it down, and still got the order wrong. Everyone that lives in Romulus knows this is the place to go for Ice Cream and Hamburgers. Family owned, very friendly, and is one of the very few places to go in the city. My personal favorite is a Peanut Butter shake, but you can't to wrong with anything. Burgers are amazing as well. There is a playground for little ones, and big grass area.
