Reliable walk up midwestern ice cream. I love the eclectic menu that never seems to change. There's definitely something for everyone here. Staff is always kind and welcoming and it never takes that long. I see them working hard. Seating area is always decorated with annual or perennial flowers, it adds a nice front porch feel. I used to live about a mile and a half from this place. It's about five years ago. They're really great really have great ice cream. They do not sell any hot food like some other locations but they're really good. The service is five stars. The food is five stars and it's really interesting. In 2006, I used to take my dog Marko to Mark-O's Ice Cream Time and called it "his" ice cream place. Many years later, we take any number of pups (and ourselves) to Ice Cream Time, blissfully ignoring various other ice cream stops along the way, from Ann Arbor to Ypsilanti. My favorite is a bit basic (but not to me!)- a twist cone, dipped in butterscotch shell, inside a chocolate and peanut dipped sugar cone. Absolutely perfect, no other place has anything like it. Wait times are never long, their service is efficient. And you have to love the interesting locals who are there waiting and willing to chit chat with you. We particularly like the milkshake lady, who gets hers every night and calls the owner "Skeeball!" Highly recommend. The Flurries are mixed correctly (not too overloaded like they are at -choke- King Kone in Garden City) with the add-ons like peanut butter cups and chocolate chip cookie dough. The mix is right on and the cone will last almost the entire time without ending up on your shirt. Very important! The dip is not too thick and has a satisfyingly light crunch to it, without cracks for the ice cream to melt through. He has stayed open until Thanksgiving in years past but of course, this is the owner's purview. Go here instead of whatever the heck that is which happened to Mickey's (RIP the real Saline Mickey's- at least the Westland one still exists), DQ and Frosty Joey. read more

With the soft serve option, you can choose from a myriad of sundaes, flurries, shakes, and "glaciers" (slushes mixed with soft serve--yum!). I went with the tin roof sundae (chocolate sauce, peanuts, and soft serve) and my husband went with a cherry shake. Both were delicious and the perfect treat on a warm day. The gentleman who helped us, who I assume is the owner, was a delight. So friendly and helpful. I watched him interact with other customers and he was just a joy to observe. The sizes do not disappoint - I got a medium flurry assuming the sizes are somewhat similar to a certain chain that does flurries/concretes... but to my surprise it was a PACKED 12 oz cup! Ice Cream time is the only ice cream place near my house that's not a chain like Dairy Queen, so they tend to get my business. The tip jar on the walk up window says its "The College Fund." The employees who work there do look like local kids, and I'm happy to support them. A sign on the window says they now take debit and credit cards. On a recent visit, I got the small Turtlette Flurry. I thought nearly $3 was expensive for small until I saw the small mountain of ice cream I was receiving. I don't know why anybody would need a medium since a small is almost one and a half cups of ice cream. Mine was mixed with piece of chocolate shell, chopped pecans, and butterscotch sauce. The girl at the window said some people ask for caramel to be substituted for the butterscotch and offered to do so for me, but I declined. The building itself is kind of fun, with a big old-fashioned sign. They make an effort to provide shady seating with benches along one side, and picnic tables under an overhang in the front. However, this particular part of Ecorse Road isn't really all that scenic. You'll mostly find neighborhood kids walking up to buy a cone and then strolling off to do whatever it is kids do on summer vacation these days. read more

This is a great local ice-cream joint that has a wide variety of frozen treats to choose from. They have lots of treats that use their soft-serve, like sundaes and freezes, but they also offered hand-dipped ice cream if that's what you prefer. They have about 10 or 15 flavors to choose from. Everyone is bound to find something they like at Ice Cream Time. The prices are reasonable, too. This is just a walk-up place, with a few picnic tables if you want to eat there. I have passed this spot more times than I can remember and never bothered to try it. I can finally say that I'm glad I did. The service was impeccable and the chocolate peanut butter shake I had was ridiculously good. Even with the line building on a warm summer's night the man I could only imagine is the owner moved along quickly, making helpful suggestions as he assembled hand dipped goodies.
