To tell you the truth I haven't been to Rex's in many years. When I did come here, it was almost always to get their fish and chips. Maybe it was just me being younger and naive, but I always found theirs to be exceptionally good (when compared to similar American family restaurants). I found myself back here again craving these fried pieces of cod. I really should try other menu items because they have a ton of dishes to choose from to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters. But of course I went with the fish and chips, and I'm happy to say they did not disappoint me. I don't know for sure whether the filets were fresh or frozen, but the fish itself tasted very tender and flaky while the batter had the perfect amount of crunch to it. I ordered mine with a side of coleslaw, as is tradition. The lady who waited on me was very nice and attentive. As far as the dining room is concerned I can't remember if it always looked this way or if they made some changes. Either way I think the restaurant is a nice place to grab a meal, and I cannot find too much to complain about. read more

It used to be good diner fare but now it seems like it's all highly processed and odd tasting. The servers are really friendly and nice. The food is not great. I ordered something that came with sauce and there was a "slimy glob" in it. I could tell it was a poorly made "just add water" sauce and maybe the glob was the skin that forms on top, no one wants to eat that. The pancakes tasted chemical-y, like it's that difficult to make pancake batter from scratch? I ordered carry out from them a while ago and the meatloaf was so overcooked as to be inedible. If they are just going to let food dry out under a heat lamp, why would they think someone would want to eat it, much less pay to eat it. If you can't make pancakes or sauce or meatloaf, please, take them off the menu. This is one of those places that needs to figure out what they do well and focus on that. It's actually a shame really. It's one of the few diners that are open for dinner but it's just terrible for most meals. read more

I met my friend here for breakfast last week and we were blown away by the friendly staff and delicious food! We both had the turkey sausage skillets with coffee. We had the best waitress, Debbi! She was so sweet and made sure our coffee cups were always full. The owner also is very sweet and made sure every table was taken care of. We ordered chicken and waffles. Rex's doesn't have it set up on door dash so that you can indicate if you want wing-dings or tenders. So we put in the special instructions "tenders". Our order arrived and it was wing-dings. I called to let Rex's grill that there was a mistake. They said they would transfer me. The next woman to answer answered the phone unprofessionally with a an irritated "hello??" Then as I started to explain my issue she cut me off saying it was door dashes fault and I should reach out to them. She insisted that we must not know how to put special instructions in on door dash. She was being incredibly condescending and rude through the whole call. The issue of wing-dings vs. tenders was not a big deal, but the way the woman on the phone handled the situation is what prompted my review. This is super disappointing as we go to Rex's all the time and normally have a five star experience. The kitchen made a mistake and instead of simply apologizing she blamed DoorDash and suggested we were incapable of ordering from door dash correctly. They should put someone who has better costumer service skills on the phones. read more

Been meaning to try this place for quite a while. The menu is kind of upscale for breakfast and fancy Coney Island for the rest. The chicken and waffles and monte cristo French toast are top notch! I'm used to monte cristo being fried and this one is not - which I prefer! It's a nice Texas toast French toast with ham, cheese and jelly type sauce on the side. The chicken and waffles are surprisingly delicious - perfect waffles with a little crunch in the outside and soft on the inside. The chicken is nicely battered and and lightly fried so it's not oily like some fried chicken. The chicken taco salad is SO good! Fresh greens (not just iceberg) with a perfect balance of grilled chicken, cheese, and veggies and a nice taco shell. I remember vaguely why we were in the area. My husband needed to get something in his car checked out at the dealership nearby. We were plenty hungry and in need of immediate nourishment. We've never been here before and we wanted breakfast food. So why not. I ordered the eggs, ham and hash. Its was pretty good. Pretty basic. Tastes like what eggs, hash and ham should taste like. My husband did the French toast, meat and eggs. French toast was pretty good, everything else was super basic. I also had the biscuits and gravy. That dish was very lackluster. This is the dish I usually do my basis on these types of restaurants. Quite frankly, hot sauce couldn't save the taste even if it tried. Places like these remind me of a time. A time when America was an old institution. Where you walked into a shop and you can get yourself breakfast at any time of the day. An establishment where chicken fingers and fried potato sticks rules the dining hall. Service was amazing, our coffee was refilled and so did our waters. The food was a major let down though, but I get it. Most of the people dining in here is retirement age and older. They're the bread and butter, not people like us. You guys keep doing you. I've been going to Arestis' restaurants since early 2000. I hadn't visited in a while but three of us met there for lunch. The wait staff and Arestis' son were great! The food was very good. The sign just inside the door said that one of the specials of the day was their Spinach and Feta Omelette. Now we've all had omelettes before and it's hard to mess one up, right? We also know that it's even harder to make a really good one. This one was big enough for two people and it was outstandingly good as they didn't skimp on the feta cheese.. My omelette, along with some golden brown, crispy hash browns and a steaming cup of coffee were the perfect start to the morning. The restaurant is an older and kinda plain looking casual family type of place. It's neat and clean. The menu looks to be pretty extensive too. There were two ladies who were working that morning and both really pleasant and made this non-morning person very happy with their quick and friendly service. Rex's is a hop away from my house and they have damn good breakfast. I've been twice for breakfast and once for dinner. I personally will stick to their yummy breakfast but they have a diverse dinner menu. I've ordered their berry stuffed French toast and their strawberry Belgian waffle. I've also tried a bite of their Nutella crepes. Everything has been wonderful. The crepe was more like a pancake (too thick) but still very delicious. I've ordered their bacon, and holy hell, it was perfect. My brush with dinner was slightly disappointing. I ordered the fried chicken meal for $9. The chicken was fried to a burnt crisp, but that day, our server was swamped and I was starving, so I ate the dry chicken... the fries were wonderful, though. Jacob ordered the Caribbean Jerk chicken sandwich and said it was pretty good. I thought their dinner was a little expensive for what it is, so I'll probably visit strictly for breakfast. Service has been pretty good. You'll never go too long without seeing your server. The place can get busy, but it's a family/older people diner... not too rowdy or loud. Our family comes to Henry Ford Hospital about once per month to treat a chronic condition. We've been looking for a sit-down spot because our patient is exhausted after her procedure. It was our first time, but It won't be our last! Rex's has pleased us!! There's plenty of space for her wheelchair and it's not in anyone's way. The staff always accommodates mom with dementia, which can be challenging to understand her sometimes, very strange requests with her dementia! My husband got the French toast he thought which was alright, he wasn't a fan of the berry syrup but other than that I thought it was really good especially because they use fresh fruit and none of that frozen defrosted sugary stuff.
